63 The curse of Agony

Jayce's POV.

While his body experiences some weird phenomenon, his consciousness was in a totally different place, a familiar place that he once step foot in.

"Welcome back, player." A familiar, mechanical voice rang in his head.

Jayce who was still groggily about the situation suddenly jolted awake. He wanted to circulate his aura, putting up guards, but he found that... He was empty! All his power and pure essence were depleted! He can feel his strength but he can't use them!

"Genesis? What is going on? Why am I here?" Jayce asked warily,

"I didn't die, did I?" The last thing he remembered was he was carrying a little girl while running out of the perimeter, but then his vision went black, then the next moment, he found himself in this dark place.

'DING! Answering Player questions. You are back here once more to enter the trial of consciousness, like the last time."

????

'Trial of consciousness? Like the last time? The fuck did you mean last time! I never went into no trials, I don't have a bad memo-...

"Memory...." Jayce muttered, did.... did the memory wipe relate with this trial...?

"What is this trial about? Also, were you the one that wipe out my memory?" If the system/ Genesis indeed were the one that erased his memories, at least it's justified, why would a powerful entity like Genesis, erase his memories for no reason?

'...'

'DING! Player doesn't have enough access to inquire about the first question, but do know that, Player must participate in the trial, otherwise your soul will face the ultimate destruction.'

"*hish*....this is troublesome...." Jayce took a cold breath as he read the information. Soul destruction! He doesn't know what it means but as a former avid reader, he at least knows that it's much worse than death itself! But he didn't panic as he calmly analyzes the situation.

Unlike the last time that he first stepped foot here, Jayce's personality took a change, for better or worse, he wasn't the cowardly kid he once was, he's now calmer and more collected. Maybe living for two years in Runeterra and all those crazy experiences he went through, sculpt him to the man- *ahem, boy he is today. Or.... was it something else...

But Jayce didn't even put such thoughts in his mind as he's wrecking his brain to find clues about the current predicament.

"What do you mean by not having enough access? How does one gain access?"

'DING! Throughout the multiverse, strength means everything. As long as you have enough strength, there is nowhere that you can't go. Player's strength is insufficient, therefore denied access.'

"Mhm.What about my second question?" Jayce helplessly asks with a downcast expression. Since it said that he's weak, he can't say anything about that. He might be a considerable big fish in a small pond, but in the vast ocean that is known as the multiverse.... sigh...

'It's all come down to having power, huh....' Jayce muttered, anyways since he couldn't get the solution, he will move on for now.

'DING! Replying to Player, the system isn't responsible for player memories being wiped...'

'So, it wasn't this either...' he had figured, Jayce had been with the system ever since he was born after all. There is no reason why it would lie to him. With no clues to go on, he's back to square one.

"I don't have any more clues, and I can't leave either.... *sigh* Just send me in, already..." According to the system, He had been here once before, meaning that he had experienced the trial at least once, but he lost his memories afterwards...

'I wonder what it's all about.' For the system to make a big fuss about this trial, it must be something relatively important.

'DING! Affirmative. Starting the simulation."

'1%….50%…...69%….99%...100%'

'Simulation activated'

'Have a good journey!'

Before Jayce could process what happened, he felt his vision turn dark.

….

Alternate world.

"So, it has started." In the middle of a luxurious dining hall, a man is sitting at the head of the table as he eloquently eats his food. Once you reach S level, you have already transcended mortal shell, stepping on the first state toward Godhood. He, who is beyond that mere level, obviously doesn't need to eat food to sustain himself, but sometimes one has to find a way to remind yourself of where you came from.

"The history still repeats itself, but this time, I will change the timeline..." He muttered as his gaze went downward.

"What are you doing?" After the man said that the figure of Evelynn appeared out of thin air, underneath the table with her hand outstretched toward his crotch.

Evelynn felt embarrassed after her cover got exposed, but her mouth turns into a soft mouth as she teleported directly on his lap, with both her legs spread out on both sides, she grinds her hip, especially, on the region where his weapon is kept, as her arms snaked around the man neck.

"Papa left Eve for a long time, does Papa not like Eve anymore?" She said hysterically as tears streamed down her face, along with a small blush, an onlooker would instantly feel sympathy and would do whatever they could to console the girl.

But the man was indifferent in front of her crocodile tears.

"Be good, go and take a sit." Using his left arm, he nuzzles against her hair with his palm, causing the demoness to mew in response. She didn't respond to his request, instead, she just kept nudging her head to the crook of his neck, like a cat begging for attention.

"Eve..." His cold tone turned colder; he leers at her with raised eyebrows, daring her to test his patience one more time. His aura surged as a black coloured lighting formed from the top of his fingertip, transforming into a giant serpent.

"HISS!" The snake hiss at her, but that didn't scare her one bit. She's instead more scared of her father's tone.

"Sit. Down. Now."

Evelynn, who is in his bosom, shook intensely with sweat dripping down her back. Like a cat that had been wronged, she whimpered, slowly getting off his lap, taking the seat next to his.

"Good." As fast as it emerged, his aura stopped, everything turned back to normal, but that is not all...

The man waved his hand as a cup appeared in his hand, some kind of white "substance" slowly filling the empty cup, sort of like milk, but is it really milk...?

As soon as the first drop enters the cup, a strange fragrance enveloped the whole hall.

The downcast Evelynn soon turned intoxicated as she turned her head at a quick speed, staring hysterically at the cup of "milk" with drool dripping from the corner of her lip.

"It's father's....!" Evelynn reached out with her outstretched arms restlessly, wanting to grab ahold of that cup!

The man didn't make it hard for her as he give her the glass.

"My...MY PRECIOUS!" Once she took hold of the glass of milk, she hunched over like a goblin treasuring some magic ring as she said in a heretic voice. After taking a few deep sniffs, she tilts the glass, taking the first sip.

"Ahhh!" Eve narrowed her eyes into a slit, ecstasy fills her to the very soul as the dazzlingly milky white liquid enters her throat.

"It's been too long... way too long... *gurgle* *gurgle*" She soon empty out the cup with satisfaction, drops of milks slipping out of her mouth.

"ANOTHER!" Like a child hasn't had enough of her fill, she holds out the cup to the man, demanding another serving. Her expression is extremely cute, unlike how she torments the people of Runeterra, after so many years, she can finally act like a proper being... A..normal...being.

*Drip drip drip* Eve's body tremble as she shakily holds the cup. Tears, real tears that came from the depth of her heart, stream down her eyes.

"F..father...why did...you make....me...?" Suddenly, her personality took a turn, a big turn, as if she has two different personalities...

The now "Evelynn" look at the supposed milk in her hand as she muttered...

The reason why she was obsessed with Jayce, the reason why she desperately wanted to find her father, the reason why she acted the way she did toward the glass milk.... all because …...it's an antidote.

"Why...father....why... did you torture me...? Why? What have I done wrong...? why am I imbued with this curse.... just why..." Evelynn shakily asks but she just kept choking on her tears, staring at her so-called father with hatred, but more importantly, sadness.

Yes. Curse. The curse of Agony.

For years, this curse had plagued her. For years, she had plagued others. For years, she had caused agonies. For years, she was the one in agony.

She was forced, and cursed, to the point of insanity. She wanted to die, die so very badly.

But...

She can't. It wouldn't let her... HE, wouldn't let her.

For eons, she had lived. She saw the cycle of life and death, countless times.

But...

Why can't she die...?

Power?

Richness?

Eternal life?

She has all the things in this world that she would gladly trade....in order to experience death, true death.

But she couldn't...

The curse of Agony will continue to exist, residing within her as long as there are agonies... it's also how she got the nickname, The agony's embrace.

That's why the glass of milk was so precious... it's an antidote for her curse! Albeit temporally.

"Just why...?" So many words, so many questions, but only two words come out of her mouth... The despair in her eyes is transparent for all to see. It's the eyes of those who are already dead.

"Please kill me...." Seeing no response from her father, Evelynn muttered as she begs desperately.

The man didn't even have a slight reaction, putting down the fork gently as he cleans his mouth over a napkin.

"No." The man gently answered. As if the whole thing has nothing to do with him.

A word, a simple, common word that contains two letters, but to Evelynn, it's like the judgement to her endless despair.

"hehe...HahAH.... HAHAHAHAHAHA!
