Rick convinces Beau to take him along when he leaves town -- thus working his way into Beau's dangerous life on the run -- and perhaps, into his heart, if Beau can come to grips with the fact that Rick is half his age. Chapter 24

“How soon can we get everything,” Beau asked.

“This time, tomorrow. I want half down, half when I deliver.”

“Will a credit card work?”

Toby chuckled. “As long as there’s money to back it up.”

“There is.” Beau handed him one. Toby ran it, nodded when it went through, and had Beau sign the signature box on the machine.

“Okay, we’re in business. See you tomorrow.”

As soon as they were outside, Rick hugged Beau, immediately pulling back with a whispered, “Sorry.”

“You don’t have to apologize, but I’d like to know why you did it.”

“It’s stupid, but when you told him to put the same address on both our licenses…” Rick shrugged.

“Come on. Did you think I was going to send you off on your own? I thought you knew better than that.” Beau put one arm around Rick’s shoulders. “We’re in this together, with one proviso.”

“I bet I know what it is, too. I’d better not, umm, lecture you about—” he glanced around, “—what you’re planning on doing when it comes to a job.”
