Chapter 11. Sebastian

Claire left the room to consult with Sebastian and Capricorn to get the documents pertaining to city defense and protection without letting the higher-ups find out about it.

She left his room and went to Sebastian's office which wasn't far from Daniel's office.

She knocked on the door and waited for him calling her inside.

Before Claire arrived at his office,

Sebastian was a middle-aged in his middle thirties with black hair and a sharp nose. It is often said that his nose is better at finding clues and facts about his investigation subjects than the agents who work under him.

His office was pretty dull compared to Daniel's. Its were painted dull grey and the only portraits which hung it's were of sad moments like a river of corpse and blood or that of a tyrant standing over a child's skull.

As for other decorations, there was even a child drawn photo of a family which hung among the gruesome portraits.

There were a coat and umbrella stand by the door and closets filled with fills and folders lining the walls of the room.

There were light bulb stands at the corners of the room which gave out him light. I'll in all the room was dark and gloomy filled with the atmosphere of despair.

There was no beautiful or colorful present in the office. The only thing these objects except for the child-drawn radiated was despair and great grief.

In the middle was a long 5 *6 feet table would three chairs placed around it.

On the table was a simple monitor. There were different colored file placed on it along with a pen stand and a miniature globe of planet Solaris with many human settlement marked on it.

There was even a photo of a family of three. It was the family of Sebastian( his wife and his son ) who perished in a monster attack few years ago and couldn't be saved.

The rescue force couldn't reach the destination in time and so they perished in the attack.

Sebastian was devastated because of this and he lost his ability of smile to that day. He hasn't smiled years since the death of his family.

He investigated the reason for the delay of rescue team but what were the results no one knows except for Sebastian himself.

Since that day he spent more than twenty hours a day in his office keeping himself busy so that he wouldn't remember his dead family.

In front of him was one of the agent who narrated the task he performed and how it went.

When Claire arrived at the door and knocked at the door, Sebastian was talking with one of his investigative spy he placed in the city for getting him every important information that occurred in it.

Sebastian's attention was diverted to the door from his special agent. He has already told his people not to interrupt him when he was taking reports.

No one has interrupted him during the reporting time, so he felt whatever it might have been would be important.

" Enter"

When he said that, Claire entered the door and her sudden appearance intrigued him.

He signalled his agent to leave so that the two can talk with each other alone and know why she came to him this time disrupting all their daily routines.

" What are you doing here, Claire? Normally you would be with Daniel helping him in his tasks." Sebastian asked.

She took some steps and appeared in front of him and said," Normally, I would be there too but the boss told me that he had a gut feeling about something big happening around. He asked me to talk to you and browse all important details of the city.

Capricorn will take a look at minor events happening which can be webbed together to form a bigger picture. " She explained this to him.

Sebastian was quiet for sometime and then he looked up to meet Claire's eyes and said," You interrupted me in an important meeting because he had a gut feeling. Are you a fool?

This thing will attract those bureaucratic fools and then they will get more reason to get back at us and continue to drain our funds even more than before because they fear we might rebel.

Did he not consider it or he felt that he could just overlook this and then let all of us fall into a pit."

Claire wanted to argue but what Sebastian said was true. This was equivalent to seizing power from the bureaucrats and may make them feel that they were rebelling.

Such an accusation is death for their future career if they even managed to withstand their brutal counterattack.

But years of trust let her believe Daniel and she stood strong against Sebastian.

" When has he ever led us astray? He always weathered the storm for us and paved the way out of it. You know him longer than any of us, Did he betray your trust?

You know that since he has decided to take this step then it meant something really big is gonna happen and he cannot take it on his own.

He took a pledge to protect the city from internal as well as external threats and he has kept the city in peace (or at least calm) for years. Now that he is doing this, the earlier peace will go down the drain and all of his efforts would be for nothing.

He is willing to destroy all his past works and achievement for this, and this alone puts me on the edge. And I don't know how you feel but he trusted you to do this. If you can't do it then I will do it my own way." She ended her traid towards Sebastian.

He continued to look towards her blankly seemingly unfazed by her words. If not for the fact that he started to drum his fingers she would have thought he completely ignored her and didn't hear her.

" I didn't say I won't help him. Yes I know him longer than anyone of our group and so I know that sometimes he do things on a whim. I want to know whether this was similar to those times.

Anyway, the reason he sent you here because he wanted to do this discreetly and not attract too much attention. And your way of doing things will attract attention.

It seems even after all these years his mind is as sharp as ever. Among our little group only me and Capricorn are known for subtility.

You head for Capricorn then, I would do as he asked." And motioned her to leave.

Claire just nodded and left them. Since his family's death, he has changed a lot and not many wanted to see him or stay with him longer than they have to . The only ones who could be with him are Daniel, Capricorn and the bull-headed Julian.

When she left, Sebastian was thinking something with great focus and mumbled," Your senses haven't dulled out overtime in your luxury office. It seemed like you have noticed something. I have to hasten to process if I want to reach my goal."
