1 Chapter 1: Assassination

"Your Highness Arthur, wake up, wake up! Something terrible has happened, the Duke has been assassinated! Her Majesty the Queen wants to see you!" The door of the lavishly decorated room was suddenly pushed open, and a gentleman who looked mature and dignified at the moment, with red eyes, rushed in and shouted loudly.

"Hmm, what?!" Connerd Arthur, who was sound asleep, woke up instantly, got out of bed, and asked the old gentleman in a hurry,

"Butler Hunter, what's happened?"

"No time to explain, Your Highness Arthur, quickly go to see Her Majesty the Queen. The Duke was assassinated on the streets of London this morning, and now the royal family and the entire government are investigating the matter," the butler named Hunter said, his eyes red and a little teary.

"What? What happened? How could my father be assassinated?" Connerd Arthur was instantly shocked and incredulous. Connerd Arthur's father, Arthur William Patrick Albert, was one of the greatest monarchs in the history of the British Empire, the third son of Queen Victoria, and also the noble Duke of Connaught and Strathearn and Earl of Sussex.

As a prince and duke of such noble status, being assassinated in the capital of his own country, Connerd Arthur could not believe it.

"I don't know either. Everything was fine at first. Who could have thought that an assassin would suddenly come to assassinate His Highness? There's no time to think about it now. Your Highness, go to see Her Majesty the Queen first. At least it's still absolutely safe there," the butler Hunter said with sadness and concern.

Speaking of the old butler Hunter's resume, although it's not brilliant, it's very profound. Since the Duke of Arthur William Patrick Albert was awarded the title in 1874, Hunter has been the steward of the entire duchy and the Duke of Arthur. He has already been the Duchy's butler for more than twenty years.

During these more than 20 years, not only did the Duke of Arthur grow up to be a qualified duke step by step under Hunter's supervision, even Connerd Arthur grew up under Hunter's watchful eye.

This is also why the butler Hunter is so sad after hearing about the assassination of the Duke of Arthur William Patrick Albert.

"Now what should we do?" Connerd Arthur has only been in this body for a few months, and he doesn't know much about the environment he is in right now. In addition, his previous knowledge of the British Empire was only a little bit, knowing only that Queen Victoria was one of the greatest monarchs in British history and was known as the Ancestor of European royalty.

Under these circumstances, after his original body's father, Arthur William Patrick Albert, was assassinated, Connerd Arthur was at a loss for what to do for a moment.

You should know that the British Empire is now the undisputed world's strongest country, and its navy overwhelms the second and third strongest countries in the world. Under such circumstances, anyone who dares to plan an assassination of a Duke or Prince of the British Empire in the capital city of London is essentially slapping the face of the British Empire and the British royal family.

"The Prime Minister is right. Investigate it immediately! Within three days, I want to know all the information about the culprit, as well as whether there is anyone behind him instructing him. Anyone involved in this assassination should be arrested and detained until cleared of suspicion before being released. I want those who dare to harm Arthur to understand that the dignity of the royal family is not so easily provoked." Queen Victoria, who is already eighty years old and the highest authority, said with a sad and angry face.

Prince Arthur William Patrick Albert has been Queen Victoria's favorite son since he was born. Although his favor was greatly reduced after his sister, Princess Beatrice, was born, he was still Queen Victoria's favorite son.

Especially after the second son, Prince Alfred, inherited a title in Germany and the fourth son, Prince Leopold, died from hemophilia in 1884, Prince Arthur became even more favored by Queen Victoria, who had always adored him since his birth.

In addition, the eldest son, Edward, had never received much attention from Queen Victoria, and after repeatedly scandalizing himself with his loose private life, she cared even less for him. As a result, rumors circulated in both political and civilian circles that Queen Victoria intended to name Prince Arthur as the heir to the throne.

Although Queen Victoria never made any moves to depose Edward as heir, it is unknown whether she privately entertained such thoughts.

Suddenly, there was a knocking at the door, interrupting Queen Victoria's angry rant. Everyone turned to the door, trying to discern who would dare disturb the Queen's fury at such a time.

"Grandmother," Arthur walked in slowly, his eyes reddened from crying.

The word "grandmother" instantly dissipated Queen Victoria's anger. Looking at the face of her most beloved grand son, who bore a striking resemblance to him, tears welled up in her eyes, and she choked out:

"Good child, come to grandmother. You can rest assured that with grandmother here, no one can harm you."

Queen Victoria walked forward, took Arthur's hand, and led him to the top seat.

"Your Highness Prince Arthur." The government officials all bowed to Prince Arthur.

"Spread the word that all of Arthur's titles will be inherited by little Arthur, including all castles and properties. Arthur will be buried with the status of a prince, and the entire nation will fly flags at half-mast for three days." Queen Victoria caressed Arthur's face, her eyes red and filled with grief.
