1 Dimensional Rift

A young boy with brown hair and a high school uniform walked along an uphill trail that was lined with skyscrapers of Tokyo. He eventually arrived at an apartment, reached into his jacket pocket and opened the door to the rickety little apartment room.

He then walked to the window, opened the curtains and stared at the mid-afternoon sun. His gaze eventually drifted off towards the giant wall that soared high and encircled the entire city proper.

This 100-meter high giant wall was a relic of the war era when The Calamity occurred 500 years ago.

The Calamity, which destroyed almost half of the Milky Way galaxy, opened a dimensional rift that connected the two dimensions: Monsters, Aliens, and various other creatures came to destroy Earth's civilization.

If it weren't for the Rifters, there might not have been any more Earthlings who survived.

Now, all the younger generations dreamed to become a Rifter and competed to be the greatest. Success and prosperity were sure to be obtained if they managed to become individuals who had the spiritual power of this cosmic energy.

The fact that he was thinking of this again made Ryo sigh. He couldn't help but constantly think of this even though he knew that there was no chance for him.

Ever since the age of 10, Ryo was declared to have neither talent nor potential to become a Rifter, and this made him often bullied for always being the weakest.

Even so, he was able to accept his fate with his life motto: Live calm and peaceful.

This was how Ryo lived each day and even until now. Even though today was something that could have been special for him. He smiled bitterly. Today was his high school graduation day and his 18th birthday and yet everything was still the same.

As the sun was about to set, sirens blared through the city hundreds of miles away, warning all residents that a curfew was imminent.

BEEEP BEEEP

"Hopefully, no monsters show up tonight," Ryo muttered as he took off his jacket and clothes and then went to take a shower.

After five minutes, Ryo stepped out of the bathroom. After he dressed himself with casual clothes, Ryo opened his fridge and took a can of beer. He went over to his couch and said to himself;

"Happy Birthday."

He leaned back, sighed and turned on the television. He switched television channels with bored eyes, until he got fixated on a news program.

Ryo frowned and muttered,

"A portal in the middle of the city? Which stupid creature dared to infiltrate through a portal in the middle of the city?"

He threw the tv remote on the table and clicked his tongue. He got up from the sofa, then walked to a small altar attached to the wall in memory of his father. He stood there until he didn't realize that he had been standing there for too long.

Ryo's thoughts were interrupted by a loud booming sound in the sky, lightning flashed ferociously like a giant silver spear racing to strike the Earth.

Boommm!!!!

Ryo stumbled but caught himself from falling. His eyes widened when he realized that the explosion felt close, apparently right above his apartment. The aftershock of the shockwave spread in all directions and shattered the thick windows of the skyscraper.

He immediately ran towards the balcony, and he couldn't believe what he saw, a Dimensional Rift portal was already fully formed not far above his head.

It seemed that the estimates conveyed by the breaking news are wrong.

"Crap!" Ryo cursed and darted back inside. He locked the balcony door and looked for a weapon and a place to take cover. Ryo grabbed for his father's heritage sword hanging on the altar, instinctively.

For a moment, he hesitated between immediately running to another and much further place or staying in his apartment. "If I get out, I'm most likely going to be trapped in a Dimensional Anomaly, Tsk!"

But it was too late, the size of the portal suddenly increased and it was clear to Ryo that the level of danger had already increased. Based on the current growth, it was already level E or above.

The Dimensional Anomaly soon perfectly formed to a radius of ten kilometres and the time within the Dimensional Anomaly radius became very slow, all the movements Ryo made now felt very heavy.

This anomaly was followed by a large dimensional crack and it slowly formed in front of Ryo.

A hand with thick slimy scales, sharp and long fingernails seemed to force itself out of the crack.

Ryo's mouth was wide open and he wanted to scream, unfortunately fear overcame him instead and made him freeze in place.

The humanoid creature turned out to have a large stature and a fierce face. The monster was drooling and salivating as it poked its head out. Finally the monster managed to tear the dimensional crack and charged straight away, it crashed into Ryo and slammed his body into the wall.

"Ackkk!!"

The impact made all the air inside Ryo's lung bursted out. His mouth was agape and struggled to breath. But, it was not just that.

The monster quickly squeezed Ryo's throat in one hand and formed a kind of dagger from his arm bone. Ryo could already imagine what the monster would do to him.

"You wretched thing!!!"

With some hope left, Ryo struggled loudly and yet it was in vain. His throat burned as he was running out of breath. 'Is this the end of everything for me?' thought Ryo with a darkening gaze.

However, at that crucial moment, a loud sound came from beside him. The apartment door was smashed apart and flew open. It was soon followed by the figure of a woman casually walked in the dimensional anomaly like walking in a park.

She held a fiery red sword in her right hand and a gun in her left, which was aimed directly at the monsters.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Three shots immediately fired at the creature. Its bullets were unaffected by the Anomaly's atmosphere, and shot straight into the creature's shoulders and neck which were carefully far away from Ryo.

Roarr!!

The creature roared so loudly that it was deafening for Ryo, but the white-haired woman didn't budge.

Instead, the woman let out a word from her mouth.

"Release!"

After saying that simple word, Elena let out a shockwave that not only blew the creature away but even neutralized the entire Dimensional Anomaly.

All the furniture in the apartment was thrown away as well as Ryo who fell to the floor. He took a deep breath before turning his head back to the girl

'This young lady is a Rifter?!' Ryo shouted in his heart when he saw the figure who saved his life.

She was a beautiful woman wearing a feminine black leather jacket, tank top, jeans and boots. Her facial expression was very firm, her white hair flashed beautifully and added to her charm.

"Stop moving!" said the woman, and just like before, a supernatural power made Ryo and the creature unable to move like they were frozen.

A speech that had the energy to affect the target's psyche.

The creature roared again. It released itself from the pressure and dashed towards the woman.

However... Bam Bam!

Two hot bullets pierced the creature's eyes.

She then moved quickly, swung her sword three times and the creature immediately collapsed and was cut into three pieces.

The woman casually shook off the blood and mucus sticking to her sword.

Everything happened so fast and so hard it made Ryo's mouth go numb, he almost forgot to breathe.

"Amazing! Is this the power of a Rifter?!"

Ryo was so stunned, and at the same time, very surprised to see that extraordinary power.
