Peculiar Mirror

At this time, Rick was in the garden in front of the mansion. He stood with his eyes on the full moon.

'It's been 10 years since I've been in this world' Rick thought to himself as he sighed.

Looking at the moon, he felt nostalgic. The moon looked the same as the one from his previous world, at least on the surface.

He then slightly raised his right hand forward as he weakly channeled wind elemental energy.

"[Wind Gust]"

A gentle breeze was brewed from his right palm and blew away the fallen leaves on the ground.

"Magic, it's still mystical no matter how I look at it" Rick muttered with a low voice.

As someone from earth, magic is filled with mysteries and profundity. But to the people in this world, magic is just another part of their lives, a weapon to protect and to destroy.

'Why was I sent here? How was I sent here? Did I really die back then?' Rick asked himself questions.

'Did someone send me here or was it just an accident? If someone did, what's my purpose? Was it just a whim or do I have some sort of destiny?' Rick thought to himself.

His reincarnation to this world baffled him ever since he was born in this world. Before he learned magic, he asked himself these questions almost every night. The thought that an entity or something sent him here for a purpose terrified him.

That meant that he was meant to do something in this world without him knowing what it actually was, at least for now.

It meant that there's something in this world waiting for him and it will come no matter what happens, whether he likes it or not.

And if his purpose was already fulfilled, then what would happen to him afterwards? As someone that originally didn't belong to this world, it's not too much of a stretch that the world would try to expel or kill him after he fulfilled his purpose.

If he dies once again, what would happen to him, his soul? Would he reincarnate once again in this world or into another world?

The thought of the unknown is terrifying.

'Two goals for now, enjoy life and find out the mystery behind my reincarnation' Rick thought to himself as he made up his mind.

'Well, it's about time I go back' Rick inwardly said as he turned around and walked.

He climbed upstairs and walked on the hallway, on the way back to his room. When he opened the door to his room, he suddenly had a strange feeling.

'Huh? Did I forget to close it back then?' Rick thought to himself as suspicions rose from his mind.

He then hurriedly checked his things and to his relief, they were untouched.

However, he felt that something was strange, as if something was missing.

He then recalled the peculiar mirror on the wall. He turned his head to look at the wall.

The corners of his eyes widened in realization.

The peculiar mirror was missing!

He then hurriedly rushed to look at Leon's and Carla's room and saw that they were still sleeping soundly.

'A thief?' Rick thought to himself as his brows furrowed. He then recalled his earlier joke about ghosts but he shook his head.

'In any case, I'm not afraid of ghosts. I'm someone who died once and is still living. It should be the ghosts who should be afraid of me since I still have a living body while they don't.' Rick thought to himself.

Rick then woke Leon up from his sleep.

"What's wrong?" Leon said as he lazily rubbed his eyes.

"I think we got a thief." Rick replied with a solemn tone.

"What did the thief steal?" Leon asked as his brows furrowed.

"It's a peculiar mirror in my room. I couldn't sleep so I went outside for a breath of fresh air but when I came back, the door wasn't closed when I remembered that I closed it back then. My things were left untouched but the mirror was missing" Rick hurriedly said.

"Go wake Carla up, I'll look for the thief" Rick said as he rushed outside to look for the thief.

"Be careful" Leon said as he hurriedly went to Carla's room to wake her up.

...

At this time, Rick searched through the bedrooms, the lobby, the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the empty rooms but didn't find anyone. He's still not familiar with the mansion for him to be able to locate clues.

'Damn. He's probably outside by now and it's only a matter of time before he escapes' Rick inwardly cursed as he clicked his tongue.

Suddenly, he felt a wave of mana coming from the back of the mansion. The corners of his eyes lit up as he rushed to the direction where the wave of mana came from.

When he arrived at the back of the mansion, he saw a ray of white light. He followed the light and saw a figure in white haori.

The figure appeared to be holding the peculiar mirror that seems to be the source of light.

"There you are." Rick said as the corners of his lips curled up to a smirk.

'A boy? Furthermore, he looks about the same age as me' Rick thought to himself as he probed the thief.

"So I was caught, it seems" the boy muttered as he sighed and put down the mirror on the ground.

It was then that the light from the mirror disappeared without a trace.

'Damn mirror, it just had to reveal my cover' the boy inwardly cursed as he looked at Rick's figure.

"Who are you and what in the world is that mirror?" Rick pompously said as his brows furrowed.

"I am nobody. As for this mirror, just treat it as an ordinary mirror" the boy replied with a pretentious shrill voice.

'He's just a boy, I should be able to beat him up' Rick inwardly said as his eyes flashed with confidence.

'A boy, huh? This should be easy' the boy thought to himself as his lips curled up to a faint smile.
