The Wedding

The wedding was to take place at Scotts residence. For that day a table was set up with a beautiful white lace table cloth. There were two silver candle stick and a bible on the table.

The priest Fr Smith was a family Friend and has blessed all important family occasions of the Scott family. He was an old man with kind blue eyes

and wavy white hair and was in deep conversation with Daniel.

" So you are the lucky man to marry our Rachel. I used to always wonder who will tame you and I don't have any doubt that you have made a right decision by choosing Rachel for your wife"

" Do you know this girl Father?" Daniel asked for he was not sure now what type of girl he was marrying. For Fr Smith was a very conservative priest and for him to like and to speak so highly about her was very confusing.

The girls from his social background were not some who would make a good impression on this conservative and snobbish priest. Daniel had thought his bride to be was some daughter of his father's colleague but now he was having his doubt.

They were all waiting for this girl whom he had not yet seen and here the priest had a fond look on his face whenever he mentioned this girl's name.

He felt as if he has been cheated. His plan was simple for he had assumed since he was marrying one of society princess he was aware of the rules of this game and it would have been easy to manipulate this girl.

But from the bits if information he was getting he was wondering whether he made a grave mistake by not meeting and investigating this girl.

What if she was only after his money and social status and make it difficult for him to get a divorce from her.

He knew that the prenuptial agreement made by his father was good and the girl hardly received anything at the end of the divorce. As per the agreement she will be given an apartment of her choice and a quarter of million dollar and she would have to give up the Scott name and the details of the marriage must not be revealed.

Daniel was so deep in thought that he did not notice a girl entering the room and going directly to his father." Finally, your bride has come. for one moment I thought that Rachel would have changed her decision of marrying you since you can not be her first choice. She is a good girl and I had always thought that she would be marrying her best friend. But I think she has been bowled over by your charm and forgotten all about her friend"

At this new information Daniel just turned and looked at the girl at her father's side. Her back was towards him and she seemed to be in deep conversation with his father.

Rachel was dressed in a simple dress with a blue belt around her tiny waist. She knew that she was late for her own wedding but at the last moment the attending doctor had come to check on her Granny and who told her that her Granny had to undergo a second surgery and there may be risk to her life.

She was broken when she heard this and thought about her life without her Granny. She knew that she wanted Richard by her side who would actually understand and support her but then she realized that now she was promised to be someone else's wife. A wife to a man whom she had yet to meet, a man who did not know her, maybe not even her name but today they have come together and will be entering into a sacred relationship for which both were not ready nor interested in.

She had thought Daniel,once he saw his father would atleast for the sake of formality meet her and at this time of grievance he would come and show some support for his future Wife.

But what she got was a bouquet of flowers with a get well soon card for her granny. She thought he would atleast have some respect for an old lady who would be related to him after their marriage.

She was actually worried about the type of man she was getting married to.

Alexander had also stopped coming to the hospital but she can still remember their last conversation. He informed her that the marriage will not be announced publicly as Daniel wanted to announce it only as per his discretion.

Rachel understood the unsaid words that she will be a dirty secret and since Daniel was fond of variety of woman it will take some time for him to accept that he was a married man.

Alexander also mentioned that she will have to stay in New York as Daniel was based out there and in future all her granny's treatment will be done there.

He also subtly managed to convey that she was not supposed to upset Daniel's lifestyle in any way atleast for the time being.

Rachel knew she was late for her own wedding but her heart was not into it. She had always dreamed of having a small wedding with her granny walking her down the aisle and her groom looking at her with love in his eye.Later the face of groom was of Richard whom she actually wanted to get married to.But fate dealt a cruel hand to her and which forced her to give her dream marriage to a man whom she truly loved.

But here she was alone in a room with no relatives of her and with a groom who had just looked at her and his green eyes were blank with no expression.

She stood next to Daniel and the priest from her church who blessed their marriage and after a ring was slipped into her ring finger she heard a voice from somewhere to kiss the bride. The whole ceremony was a blur to her and she just came out ofher trance at those words.

She raised her face to look at Daniel who for once had an emotion but it was of disgust and she was stunned speechless.

Daniel was disgusted with the choice of bride his father had choosen for him. If it had not been for the agreement he would have walked out of the room. The woman to whom he was married was a spineless and an ugly woman who did not know how to dress and had any social grace.

She was completely different from the woman he was used to. Throughout the ceremony she had her head bowed and not once did she acknowledge him and her dress was old and so out of fashion.

He was happy that he made his father agree to his condition of having the right about announcing his marriage to the world and continue with his lifestyles for some more time;

Daniel decided that this mouse looking wife will be no problem and he will get his divorce much faster then he thought. And he knew how he can get it.

With such cruel thoughts he looked at his bride with disgust and lightly pecked her cheek as he could never bring himself to kiss such a socially unfit Wife.
