Time changes everything

Li Yan stared at the white ceiling and sighed. She really wanted to get out of this room. It's sickening to stay in the room all the while.

" Zhuang Mei, did you get any news on my brother?" Zhuang Mei shook her head on seeing the question on the scribbling pad. She really heard news about Li Ren, Li Yan's eldest brother. Zhuang Mei felt bad for her friend. Even at this moment, her brother didn't come to visit her. How could anyone not feel bad?

But, she sighed on seeing Li Yan. No one knew better than her about this stubborn girl. She knew that Li Yan is still waiting for her brother.

Zhuang Mei also knew that only the thoughts of him are keeping Li Yan sane. So, he better come and not disappoint her. Zhuang Mei couldn't help but shudder on what would happen to Li Yan if he doesn't show up.

Li Yan was oblivious to all the thoughts that are going on in Zhuang Mei's mind. Her thoughts drifted back to when she was 15 years old. At that time, her brother was 19 years old. He left her that time to study acting in the US. He promised her that he would return later.

In the beginning they called each other and stayed in touch. But, time changes everything. Slowly, the calls decreased to zero and she did not hear from her brother in the last three years. Now, she is 21 and her brother will be 25 years old..

Did he grow tall? Of course he will, but how did he look right now?

Did he remember her?

Did he even care about her now?

Li Yan shook her head to snap out of her thoughts. She was afraid and she did not dare to think further. She was afraid that her nightmares are going to come true after all these years.

She hoped that her brother would come when he heard the news about her accident. It's been a week, but she did not find any sign of him. She didn't believe that he did not hear about her accident.

But, she chose to indulge in illusions again. Yes, her brother might not have heard about her.

Just as she was immersed in her thoughts, the door of the room opened and a young man in his early twenties entered.

Li Yan froze completely on seeing him. All the words which she thought of saying, got stuck in her throat.

She calmly observed the young man before her.

He was looking more matured and handsome than ever, unlike the hot-blooded teenager back then. He was now about 6'1'', taller than his old self. He was dressed in a simple jeans with a black leather jacket over his white t-shirt. The striped scarf completed his casual but cool look.

His dressing didn't change in the slightest. But, something about the way he is looking at her is telling that he is not the same as before.

Li Yan didn't know why she felt uncomfortable in her heart.

Zhuang Mei sensed the stiff atmosphere in the room. So, she excused herself from the room. But, she did not forget to give worried look at her before closing the door.

" Brother.." she weakly called out but was mercilessly cut off by him " Don't you dare to call me like that."

Li Yan froze on hearing the cold tone of his voice. She really didn't understand what she did. Why is he lashing out on her?

" What happened?" Li Yan didn't realise that her voice was shaky when she spoke.

" You stole your sister's boyfriend and forced him to be your fiancee." Li Ren sneered making Li Yan numb " And now you are acting pitiful to gain sympathy. I was away for a few years and you really made a mess out of everything."

" It's father who arranged this marriage. I didn't force anyone." Li Yan also fought back as she scribbled furiously. She could not bear to hear his words anymore. Did he not believe in her anymore? How could he say such words to his sister who lost her voice and is in wheel chair.

Then again she remembered her step sister, Li Meilin. She had a hunch that everything that is happening around her is because of her and her father.

Sure enough, she heard her brother say " Meilin is gentle and kind. I thought you were better than her. But, I never thought you will have such an insidious heart."

" Because of the rumours about you, I lost a my first chance to act." Li Ren continued " But, father and sister Meilin interfered and settled the situation."

Now, Li Yan understood everything. She felt that the person standing before her is not her brother at all. She felt that he was a complete stranger to her.

She knew that her brother is naive, but she didn't think he would be so muddle headed that he would believe them instead of her.

" Three years.. you ignored me for three years.." Li Yan widened her eyes in disbelief after hearing his words. She felt an ominous premonition as she scribbled " I called you many times. You changed your number. I didn't know your new number. Why didn't you call me?"

" I lost my old phone so I brought a new mobile. I asked father to send my number to you." Li Ren sneered on seeing her words.

" It's exactly as father said.. You've started to build up such wonderful lies."

Li Yan was disappointed. She understood that her brother would not believe her no matter what. All her life, she was tired of having one-sided affections for everyone. Her brother was brain washed by her father and sister. He chose them over her without bothering to find out the truth.

She felt agony and despair in her heart. No matter how hard she tried to control her emotions, her face turned pale.

" I wish you weren't my sister." Li Yan felt her heart shatter after hearing his words.
