2 Strange Man

"Whoever's in, get out now!" shouted the leader of the soldiers who were at the forefront. By now the army of soldiers had already arrived in front of the bamboo gates surrounding Duan Feng's residence.

They waited for a while, but no response was heard. The leader signaled for them to rush in. Finally, the cavalry broke through the fence and destroyed it with ease.

Duan Feng folded his arms across his chest. Standing in the middle of the courtyard staring at them with a lazy expression. "I was wondering who had broken the fence of my house. So, it was a palace soldier," he said casually.

The squad leader narrowed his eyes. "Are you the one named Duan Feng?!"

"It's nice to have someone know my name. However, I don't understand why you guys came with such vicious faces. Could you guys look a little more friendly?" asked Duan Feng.

"You talk too much!" shouted one of the soldiers there. They immediately prepared to draw swords, but the leader raised a hand to stop them.

"I heard that one of the daughters of King Ye Tian lives here. Is that true?"

Duan Feng immediately laughed loudly. The old man waved his hand and then turned around. "Who would want to live with an old man like me? A princess should live in a palace. Why live in such a secluded place?"

He stepped closer to the door of the house resting his hands behind his back. "Just look for it! If the person you're looking for is here, you can take her."

The leader of the soldiers snorted. "Search now!" He rules over the entire army.

They immediately scattered to search the entire residence of Duan Feng's house. Of course, there was nothing to be found. Finally, they were back together in the courtyard.

"Leader, there is no one," said one of the soldiers.

The squad leader narrowed his eyes at Duan Feng. Duan Feng's appearance might be very simple, but someone told him that the old man had been King Ye Tian's teacher when he was young. They didn't need to attack the old man or else defeat would have been the result.

"She must have run away. Go east!" the leader ordered firmly.

"Alright!"

The horses neighed. The troops also moved away leaving Duan Feng just like that.

Duan Feng who saw that could only sneer, "Idiots who can only obey that arrogant ruler!"

He sighed and then looked off into the distance. "Jie'er, I can only help you get here. I hope you meet Zhou Lin in Liang city in time."

Meanwhile, Ye Ningjie was swiftly still descending the mountain. Tonight she had to arrive at the nearest town. After that, she would think of a way to take steps.

She still felt anxious. If the troops didn't find her at Duan Feng's place, they would definitely search the eastern route. Thinking of this made her angry. She who knew nothing had to flee like a wanted criminal.

Under the darkness of the night, the horse kept on running without stopping. Just as the early hours came, she finally arrived at the city of Liang. She'd been hiding her identity all this time. People should not know that she is one of the daughters of King Ye Tian.

She stopped her horse at an inn that wasn't too big. An old man was sitting on the guard chair while sleeping. She came over and patted the table.

"Old Man, did you sleep very well?"

The old man immediately widened his eyes. Realizing that a visitor had arrived, he immediately straightened up and pretended to laugh. "Girl, do you need a room?"

Ye Ningjie nodded while pointing her index finger which meant one. The man immediately nodded happily, then fingered the key holder. His brow furrowed after realizing something.

"Ah, this old man forgot something! There's no room anymore."

"What?!" Ye Ningjie let out a rough breath. Then protested, "Why don't you just close the door?!"

The old man laughed again. Then he scratched his head in embarrassment. "I am too sleepy to be able to close the door."

"Thank you. Then I will close it for you," Ye Ningjie said sarcastically. She immediately turned out of the inn without forgetting to close the door. Isn't she very kind?

"Girl, wait!" Suddenly the old man ran out.

"What?" Ye Ningjie narrowed her eyes.

"There aren't many inns in this town. Apart from this inn, there's only the Lingjie Pavilion. Unfortunately, there's too much entertainment at night. That… might not be suitable for a young girl like you," said the old man.

Ye Ningjie sighed. "It's okay. Thank you," she said, then jumped onto the horse. She had been training hard all day. Her body was tired and needed some rest.

After all, she needed to come up with a plan. Going to the imperial capital should not be rash. Moreover, she didn't know if anyone there recognized her or not. The imperial capital had too many officials and nobles. She had to be careful.

Now she felt lucky to have never lived in the palace. One of the reasons why she stayed with Duan Feng was none other than because her status wasn't exactly good. Her mother was only a companion concubine, not the main wife.

Her father, King Ye Tian, treated her very well. However, life in the palace was too tiring. Too many people and too many rules. Not to mention if there is a conflict between siblings. That's what she hates the most.

For her, learning medical skills and martial arts was much more fun than being the daughter of a king. There were no restraints, she was free to laugh, sleep and eat without having to worry about the views of others.

All this time she had never lived in the palace so did not know what the character of her sisters was and did not know what they were doing. Even so, they are still her family, descendants of her father. She will help as much as she can.

Ye Ningjie's horse ran on the city streets. A few moments later, she arrived at the Lingjie Pavilion. The place looked crowded even in the early hours of the morning like now. The sound of playing musical instruments echoed throughout the courtyard.

Ye Ningjie got off her horse. She pinned her hair up high, so as not to look too feminine. Then gripped the scabbard tightly. Just in case something is dangerous.

She had just taken a few steps when suddenly someone was thrown and fell under her feet. She looked down, then saw a young man who was already battered and covered in bruises.

The young man's appearance was disheveled. Even so, his facial appearance was still quite clear.

The man had beautiful eyes. His skin was whiter than most men. His clothes can be said to be polite and classy. He looks like the young master of a scholar family.

Ye Ningjie sighed. She didn't want to meddle in other people's business. However, just as she was about to get out of the way, the man suddenly hugged her legs tightly.

"Let me go!" Ye Ningjie glared at him. She felt uncomfortable being treated like that.

"Miss, ouch…. Please help me up." The man begged.

Hesitating a little but Ye Ningjie finally bowed. She reached out to help the man up.

At that moment the man suddenly whispered. "Aunt Zhou is waiting for you in room 17."

Ye Ningjie's brow immediately furrowed. She wanted to ask what he meant but the man had already run away.

"Hey, wait!" Her call was completely ignored by the strange man.

Who is Aunt Zhou? Ye Ningjie was getting wary. What might she not know?
