Wronged Mary Agent

I was focusing on the image of myself in a child-sized princess dress when someone knocked on my door. I kept the image at the back of my mind at all times now. It was the only way to keep myself from breaking my current skin.

I opened my eyes to a tall, curvaceous woman in a power suit. She was well built, but still adequately slender. Her hair was tied up, showing the gentle slope of her neck under a sharp chin with red lips. Her eyes were narrow and strict. A beauty by any human standards. Two other doctors entered the door behind her. A man in a sharp suit with a receding hairline and gentle deposition and another slender male. They entered the room and took a seat on the couch. They give luxurious rooms to new crossovers in the facility. I watched the tall woman, it was obvious she was in charge here.

The woman looked me up and down and raised her brow, "Judging by your reaction, your claim of being a Mary is not unfounded. I assume you will not need a supporter?"

I shook my head. I wasn't scared of boobies. Unlike those idiotic first years before their schooling on humans.

The slender male left the room.

"What do you mean by 'my claim'? Is it not in my file? Or did you guys mess that up, too?" I sneered. I'd taken my two days of rest to keep my energy calm and get used to my body. I also spent time in the mirror getting used to my face and its expressions. No matter how you looked at it, I was simply an adorable little boy. Even my glare just looked like a child pouting and throwing a fit. However, the energy leaking from my body was difficult to hold back with any move I made. Energy moves with one's intent, therefore my emotions can cause it to leak if I don't consciously hold it in. Even now my body was aching from holding it all in.

Not only had they lost a strong fighter necessary for fighting off the monsters overtaking their world, we also lost a good agent with years of training. Not to mention all the resources from both sides that go into each and every crossover. Mistakes like this are no longer 'mistakes' when they cost people's lives.

"We've found inconsistencies in your file. We understand this is difficult, but we'd like you to understand that such incidents do happen. In fact, they are not as unusual as you believe. We have a program to help with the adjustments that will be specifically catered to you. We will give you one-on-one-" She was using a soft tone of voice and a roundabout speech that did not suit her appearance.

"Cut the crap. I know of the case files that didn't go public. Do you think I'm some greenie? Give me the real. What the hell happened and who did it? Am I the focus? Or are there others?"

She paused. She glanced at the doctor beside her, likely a specialist of some kind. They seem to have changed their judgment of me. Her fake soft demeanor melted away. Her back straightened and brows pulled down. She looked like a terrible tv show villain, "We've found inconsistencies in many crossers' files. It seems a faction of power has intentionally mixed the information in order to cause chaos between our species."

We could finally get to business. I'd been dealing with doctors giving me non-answers and workarounds for the past few days. Now we can get somewhere. My flurried emotions settled down in relief. These were visitors I could handle.

The other doctors can all go fuck themselves.

"Your request for extra D1 has been accepted, but we honestly thought you would not need it. According to our findings, the mixes concerned only information in the folio. However, your medical files show that your energy levels are just under 200. This body is within the average range and does not exceed the allotted 60 levels by far. According to this, you should not have such extreme reactions. Am I correct in assuming this is incorrect?"

I thought about it. What if I take advantage of this incident?

I'm registered as a Mary agent adventurer. However, what if I tell them I was a Janie? A Janie is different from a Mary agent. A Mary agent is an honor student. Not only would a student's test scores need to be high but their energy level and control as well. The standard is very high to become a Mary agent. There may not be 2 in a batch of five thousand students. So graduations that include Mary agents have ten times the amount of attendees as standard graduations.

A Mary agent gets the most amount of resources and care. They get the best rooms, the best training, the best teachers, the best weapons, the best potions, the best gear, and the best bodies. They also have the most dangerous contract.

Due to their high energy levels, they need a special type of body. This isn't just any human body. It needs to be a human ascended. Not many ascended get the mana sickness that allows us to use the body. If they do get the sickness, it can be healed and they can save their minds. Normal humans are incapable of this and become a vegetable. With all the mana flowing into the human bodies like that they become a timed bomb. To stop this, we enter the bodies and subdue the mana with our energy.

Humans can't very well allow aliens to go around unsupervised, however. Even if we did disarm a bomb. Instead, there is a contract. During this time they take care of us and the new human body. Meanwhile, we fight for them. Most students don't know that this is also an observation period for them to determine if we are a danger to society.

I was planning to complete my term as a Mary agent before going searching for my partner. But the observation period for a highly trained and adept agent is much longer than most.

They should have received a report of the agents they will receive ahead of time. Separate from the folios. I'm not sure if this information might be mixed as well or not. If it wasn't and they find me out I may be flagged as a dangerous target. Dangerous targets are treated like terrorists. Carefully watched in a maintained area or put down.

Is this a test? They may already know exactly what I am and are using this 'mixing' to test me. The mixing itself can't be a lie because they would never purposely lose such a good fighter as me by putting me in such a shit body.

I shook my head. It was unlikely the list was mixed up. It goes through a different channel ahead of time. They would have noticed a problem. The others wouldn't bother lying about their position. The process of elimination would tie me down. I would become a prisoner of my own making.

"My energy is nearly 300."

I could feel their gazes on me change. The casual business atmosphere had disappeared.

"A Mary indeed." said the woman. "How impressive. I'm looking forward to working with you." This is sarcasm.

I nodded as if I didn't notice.

"We can talk about collaboration later. Isn't it about time we all introduce ourselves? That's what you came here for, isn't it?"
