9 Chapter ten

It's been two days since she left the building and Laura knew by now, Liyah would have found a way to escape. She was a wolf after all and it would be easy for her when she found her strength. Thinking about it now, Laura realized that Drew was right from the onset. Focusing her mind on things that weren't important was bound to make her lose track of her plans.

''Thank you.'' Laura whispered.

Drew wasn't with her at that moment but she thought it wise to just appreciate him in his absence. If it wasn't for his wisdom, she could have made the greatest mistake of her life.

''A dollar for your thoughts.'' a voice said.

Laura looked up and realized it was Drew, the subject of her thoughts standing there with a wide smile on his face. Judging from the way he was sweaty and perspiring, Laura knew he had just come back from a run. It showed in the sweat that was streaming down his face.

''Wow, someone went for a morning run.'' Laura chuckled.

''Have you to keep myself fit you know.'' he chuckled.

''And you didn't think to call me?'' Laura said with a pout.

''Well, i thought you needed you beauty sleep seeing that you were pretty knocked out.'' Drew laughed.

His rich laughter filled her ears, giving her goosebumps that made her smile. Drew's daughter made her smile too which left her feeling like a young schoolgirl who had just found love.

''What's that look on your face?'' Drew asked.

He pulled his shirt effortlessly and Laura's breath hitched. Never in her life had she seen someone so artfully carved like he was. It seemed the moon goddess had carved him herself judging from the way he was without any blemish.

''Nothing.'' Laura murmured, looking away.

Drew knew what was going on in her mind and it was evident with the way he smiled and also looked away. The tension between them was charged and there was no telling what they would do if the tension gave way to something else.

''So i was thinking about something.'' Drew said.

''Okay, what's that?'' Laura asked.

''Since you're here, I was thinking you should undergo some training. I mean, we can't really tell when Alpha Jed and his son would strike so it's best if you have some training beforehand. It would be really beneficial.'' Drew said.

Laura knew he was right and she was grateful for that. The training she received when she was growing up was barely enough for what was to come if they got a hold of her.

''I think that's good idea.'' Laura said.

''I always bring good idea.'' Drew smirked.

Laura hit him lightly on his chest, her breath hitching when he gripped her hands. There was a look in his eyes she couldn't quite understand.

''Have i ever told you how beautiful you are?'' Drew said.

''I think you've said that before.'' Laura smiled.

''I might not have meant it at that time but i mean it now.'' Drew said.

Laura smiled, looking down at her feets that were caked in mud. When Drew was out, she had been playing with some mud in order to find out what the fates were saying.

It was something she had discovered when she was really young. The memory had come from her parents. She vividly remembered her mother telling her that your future could be determined and seen from the magic on the earth. According to her, earth was the oldest thing in the history of their lives and within it held many secrets.

''You're thinking again.'' Drew muttered.

The grip on her hand never loosened one bit. Laura stared at him, not quite seeing his face. There were several things on her mind she wanted to say but she wasn't quite sure if she could confide in him.

''What is on your mind Laura?'' Drew asked.

A lone tear slid down her eyes. She sniffed, wiping it away with her free hand. That was the moment Drew had released her hand and it was due to the fact that he drew her closer. Cocooned in his warm embrace, Laura felt safe and sound in his arms.

For the first time in a really long while, she felt what it meant to be loved despite anything that might have happened. Drew could deny it all he could but he knew now that he was slowly falling in love with Laura.

''A lot Drew. A lot of things.''she said.

''Then tell me about them. I'm here to listen.'' he said.

''It's not so easy but i'll tell you soon but not just now.'' Laura said.

She had to gather the courage before she could tell him everything she had faced in the hands of Alpha Jed and his worthless son. She knew Drew was ready to help in whatever way he could but now, Laura knew she needed a lot more than courage to let it all out and heal.

''You promise?'' Drew asked.

''With everything i have.'' she said.

He smiled, hugging her tightly. Laura shed more tears as she laid her head on his shoulder. At first, she thought he wouldn't welcome her into his pack but as time went on, she found herself getting more comfortable in his presence which was something she hadn't felt in a really long while.

''So when do you want to begin your training?'' he asked.

There was a small smile on his face as he stared at her, waiting for an answer. There were several things he wanted to tell her too but he had to wait until the issue with Alpha Jed and his son was solved.

''Say tomorrow?'' she said.

''Sounds good so I would be able to beat you in a duel.'' he laughed.

''Says who?'' Laura chuckled, taking a step back.

She stood in a fighting stance, giving him a challenging look. Drew could beat her in a fight if he was serious but she had a feeling that he would allow her to win because he just wanted her to win.

''Oh, is that a challenge Laura?'' he asked.

''Depends on what you call it Alpha Drew but all i know is that i ain't backing down from this fight.'' Laura said.

''Then you must be ready to have your butt kicked.'' he chuckled.

Just then, Laura pounced on him, morphing into her wolf form mid-flight. They rolled together across the field, neither of them giving the other a chance to escape. Laura held Drew in a tight grip but still, Drew decided not to cause any damage to her body. He was content to let her have her fill whilst thinking that she was really beating him.

Soon, the duo stopped the fracas with both of them panthing. They morphed back to their human forms together, laughing over what they had just done. This was the first time in a really long while Laura had so much fun and it was evident in the way she was grinning from ear to ear.

That was fun.'' she grinned.

''Really?'' Drew smiled.

''Yeah, it was. I enjoyed every bit of it and i can say i'm fully ready for the training that's to come.'' she smiled.

''Alright then, we begin tomorrow.'' Drew said, walking away.

''Where are you going?'' Laura asked.

''I need to be somewhere urgent. Stay safe, i'll be back soon.'' He said, taking off into the night.

Laura walked towards the rock they had stayed on the previous day. The sun was up in the sky, shining down on the land. Somehow, she wasn't affected by the sun that was shining down on the land because she loved every bit of it.

For as long as she could remember, this season was her best season so far. She remembered a hazy memory of herself and her mother, playing under the morning sun. Her mother threw her up, laughing at the way she giggled with the joy in her heart.

''I miss you Mom and Dad.'' Laura sighed.

It's been years since she lost her parents and every moment since then has been one heartache or the other. She wasn't sure if she would be able to continue with it but Laura knew she had to be strong and remain strong because that was what they would require from her.

''I won't let you guys down.'' she muttered.

Now that her mind was in the direction of where she was to go, Laura had no doubt that sooner or later, victory would be her's. She had seen it and now, it was time to actualize it.
