The Rectification

What if God was real? Would He care about us? Would He embrace us, despite our sins? Or would the weight of our sins be too great, forcing His hand? But what if something else had happened entirely? Something so unimaginable, it had to be a lie. A trick. But what if... God?

My name is...

"Roivas. My name is Roivas."

"Oh. An interesting name." He said offhandedly. As if he didn't truly care for it.

"Yeah, I hear that quite a bit." I replied.

"Cool. So. Do you know where this place is?" He asked.

Wow. I was kind of irritated; he had been the one asking for introductions but didn't even bother to give his own name.

"Not much. In fact, I was going to ask you what was going on."

As I said these words, he glared at me as if to say, "That's it?".

I don't know when or why but I started feeling nervous and sweat began to form on my forehead.

Sweating, I continued,

"Of course, that doesn't mean I don't know anything. I met one person before you. He appeared out of nowhere and disappeared the same way. Like you." I said nervously even though I wasn't at fault.

"He disappeared? Hmm… okay."

He nodded his head and seemed to give the 'okay' signal at which my body let all tension that I had been gathering release.

"So..." I began talking.

He turned again to me once more, not as friendly as when they had first met but not scary enough to drive me away when I was desperately seeking for answers.

"Do you remember anything before you arrived in this place?" I managed to force it out.

"No." He replied and turned around as if that was the end of the conversation.

- 'Damn, I should've asked the dude earlier; this one's a jerk.'

Seeing that the man no longer wanted to converse, I sat there awkwardly while the man surveyed the room when,

Silence.

A silence so unnatural, it penetrated my thoughts and was impossible to ignore. Although the man hadn't been talking, the sound or rather the lack of sound seemed to be all too evident. There was no rustling of clothes nor the sound of breathing.

The silence felt forced and although I could see the man looking around, he didn't seem to notice and kept acting as if nothing was unusual.

- 'What the hell just happened?'

Although I didn't expect anyone to reply, someone replied,

"Sorry for the interruption. I am God."

God? What? Is this a joke?

As if reading my mind once again,

"Seems that you don't understand. I am what you beings refer to as 'God'"

"Please calm down. I shall explain everything momentarily."

As the self-proclaimed 'God' spoke these words, a tickling was felt in my ear and then my vision became black.

This feeling was different from what I felt before, when sound seemed to have been ripped out of the air. That had been jarring. It was suffocating then but this felt completely different. No, this was comfortable, not dissimilar to when one lies in their bed and the darkness seems to lull you to sleep.

Suddenly, I could see again. Feeling endangered, I tried to get up. Instead of moving however, I was shocked to find that I no longer was in control of my body, or rather, my body itself wasn't there.

Panicking, I tried to move yet it still would not move. As I was trying to get out of the invisible constraints that held me,

Pop.

Just like when people were cropping up when I had been in the black room, the same noise occurred but this time, what seemed like an old television that you would probably see back in the 1930s popped up.

Just then, light shone from the TV, however, it was a simple white blank screen. It emitted some sort of weird mechanical sound and before I could guess as to what it may be, someone began speaking.

"It's me, God. Yeah, a real God. You see, you've died. Yeah you. No, this isn't the afterlife, that kind of thing doesn't exist, at least not here. Now, I'm not sending you to the afterlife, nor am I the God of Freedom, but I still want things to be fair. So I'm here to give you a chance."

God? Dead? Chance?

With no idea what this crazy person was saying, I continued to listen.

"You have died and sadly, I'm disturbed to tell you that the maximum capacity has been reached and thus the chance to rectify your mistakes has been granted."

What bullshit is this guy spewing? Does he know something about the situation?

"Those of you who are sad, do not cry, you have been blessed and have been endowed with gifts to take control of your future. Those who are confused, do not fear, if you fear before your enemy, you will surely fall again. To the rest, what can one say, but good luck. I will always cherish each and every one of you the same. Goodbye."

- 'What the f*ck is happening? Is this some kind of TV show?'

After these parting words, some text popped up on the TV.

"You all will be returned to you 100 days before you die. You all have been wiped clear of your memories up to 100 days prior to your previous death. If you are able to escape or overcome your own death, your ability will become permanent. If not, your death too, will become permanent."

Confused at the change of events, I didn't completely register what was happening but there was no time to ponder as the TV continued,

"Good luck, and let us hope we meet again. Your abilities are: Null, Survival."

With those words, the world once again went dark.
