Twenty

I was barely awake when Luke left the house to fetch my aunt and sister. So little had been said after the dinner last night. Being who he was, Luke didn’t probe me about what happened once we got back to the house. A few minutes after my emotional speech, everyone had gone their separate ways. It was a relief I regained my composure before anyone, except Lenna, saw me cry.

The next day seemed like the visit from my family hadn’t happened, but by noon on Friday, I got a phone call from my aunt.

“Please tell Lenna that her lawyer will meet her this afternoon before your flight tomorrow.”

“Can you at least give me a day to take a breather?” I sighed in frustration as I stood outside the convenience store for the first minute of my lunch break.
