Chapter Three.

William was walking around the place, he really didn't know what to call the place since it didn't really look like a house or anything. Since he died he never had the feeling that he needed to sleep which was pretty nice in Williams opinion, but that didn't mean that there wasn't a bed where he could rest should he get exhausted physically or mentally, and letting your body rest after exhausting yourself is of the highest importance.

The place where he currently is what Grim called his home, or base of operations if you want to call it that. This is where Grim usually spends his time if he's not out reaping souls, and this is also where Grim is going to train William, but Grim is currently out dealing with a problem that occured on Mars. Mars apparently also has inhabitants and there is currently a plague plaguing it. It is very similar to the black death back on Earth that happened during the dark ages which made the Grim Reaper "known" to men.

The place is located between realities, it is to say that this place is located everywhere since you can lituarilly enter it on Earth and exit it on a planet that is galaxies away so that makes travelling easier, but entering and leaving this place isn't as simple as just walking in and out. It has a lot of difficulties so leaving it will have to wait after William finishes his training.

The training that Grim will give to William will consist of multiple phases, the first and arguably the hardest part will be Grim mostly beating William so he gets in a physically better shape, because you know that William was average he never really gained any muscle when he was alive so that phase can't be skipped.

The next phase will consist of defense training, this will also just be Grim beating up William until his instincts know when to dodge and how to dodge, Grim will also teach footwork and breathing techniques to make his fighting capabilities more efficient but the breathing techniques aren't as important because ever since William died he noticed that he doesn't need to breath but because he had to breath his whole life it is hard to stop it.

The third phase is simply how to handle a weapon, the weapon most suited for the combat form the reaper uses is ofcourse a scythe so it is most likely William will also come to use the scythe. In modern day folklore the scythe is an image that reminds us that Death reaps the souls of the dead like the peasant who harvests corn in his field. You can be surprised by how much William knows about this kind of folklore, even though he never was religious he knew a thing or two about it.

The last and most important phase is the art of reaping the souls of the dead, it ofcourse isn't as simple as simply swiping your scythe and you reap the souls, this requires extreme concentration and later on when it becomes the same as breathing you can do it without concentrating much, but that doesn't mean that once you get it under control that you can simply stop training because even Death can get rusty.

Even though William doesn't really know what the training will be specifically, Grim has explained it a little bit to him so he has mentally steeled himself to what's to come. The training will be hard but worth it is what Grim said last.

It has now been two days since William had kicked the bucket and met the Grim Reaper, and today is the day Grim said that he will begin his training and William has rested his body so he is as prepared as he can be.

He was currently standing in an open field, well it is more of a plain gray floor that stretches as far as the eye can see, but that doesn't change anything. This was the place that Grim said to meet him for his training, and he didn't really give him a specific time so William wasn't sure if he was on time, but just as he was doubting this Grim appeared in front of him coming out a black swirl that appeared out of nowhere.

"We will begin your training today and it will most likely last for about one standard year for you to get this phase done so be prepared." Grim said whilst his red eyes flashed a bit maliciously. William had a bad feeling about what's to come but he just nodded his head.

"The first phase we will condition your body so it can handle any strain of physical activity, so do 20 laps." Grim said whilst a running track appeared on the ground and one lap equals to 400 meters so he has to run a fair bit. William not wanting to get in trouble started running and instantly noticed how slow he was. Well the fastest man that ran 400 meters did it in 43.03 seconds and william did it in just under 2 minutes so you can see the difference here.

(20 minutes later)

William was exhausted and he hadn't even passed the halfway mark and Grim was just watching him with that same look that can never change so it was hard to tell his opinion about him but that didn't stop him from running and completing the 20 laps.

Grim was watching the human he had chosen as his student run around really slow, but for the average human running 400m under two minutes is fast since the average human does it around three minutes per lap. (This is from google, the average humans runs around 400 m in 3 minutes)

Grim knew that since William died that he had let go of his "mortal" limits so he could get more out of physical training then humans could so he wasn't disappointed at all even though it was a really pathetic display.

Whilst Grim was busy assessing his students performance William was out of breath lying on the ground after he finished his twentieth lap, this was an official new record for William since the best he could do when he was alive ran around one kilometer before he collapsed of exhaustion. William knew that his death had changed his body because he felt the change. The weirdest thing that happened was that his appearance changed, his brown average hair changed to black and his brown eyes became crimson red just like Grim's eyes but William didn't really care how he looked since it was all the same to him.
