A Christmas Day

It was Christmas Eve, a day so precious that it only happened once every year. It was a day where people would come together to keep warm and celebrate all together, a day full of joy. However, on this day there was a lone puppy sitting in the snow outside, shivering in the cold.

As hours went by a skeletal figure appeared and approached the puppy, sitting down next to it.

"Hello there, I am death," said the skeletal figure its pitch-black eyes staring at the puppy.

"Hello Mr. Death, why are you here?" asked the puppy smiling weakly "The party's over there."

"I'm not here for the party, I'm here for you."

"Oh, why do you need me," the puppy asked his head tilting curiously, it had been a while since anyone had looked for him.

"It's time for you to move on, onto the finale," said Death gently.

"Not yet," said the puppy firmly, "My owner will be coming soon, I'm sure of it."

"Is that so, how long have you been waiting?"

"A-a few days, but I'm sure he didn't forget about me, he loves me after all," said the puppy smiling so warmly despite how cold it was.

"Then let's wait."

And so they waited and waited, and waited. Hours passed as the puppy only got weaker and felt his body become colder, soon the coldness seeped into his body. The puppy could feel his consciousness slipping, and his eye's felt droopy.

"I think I'll sleep for a few minutes Mr. Death, wake me up when my owner gets here."

"Of course."

The puppy's body lost all strength as its soul escaped its body taking the shape the same shape as the puppy. Time passed as the party inside the house continued throughout the night. It was only days later that the owner of the puppy finally came to meet his companion.

"Puppy, Puppy, wake up, your owner's here," said Death gently shaking the puppy awake.

The puppy jolted awake, its tail wagging, his owner had finally come!

"Hey, hey, wake up," said the owner as they kicked the body of the puppy with his foot.

"Oh, is it dead?" said the owner out loud as it nudged the puppy a few more times, "oh well, it was ugly anyways."

The owner then started kicking the body away into a pile of snow, not wanting to deal with such a disgusting thing.

"W-why," said the puppy in shock as tears fell down his eyes, "I thought he loved me,"

Death stayed silent as he let the puppy grieve.

"Maybe I was the bad puppy," said the puppy as he finally stopped crying.

"No," said Death quickly denying the puppy's thoughts, "you just happen to meet bad people."

As time passed Death and the puppy started walking as Death guided the puppy's soul into his realm.

"Ah," said Death as if remembering something, "Looks like we'll have to make a detour."

"What is it Mr. Death," asked the puppy weakly, its wound still fresh.

"We have to pick someone up, and I need your help," said Death smiling the best he could.

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep,

it was a sound heard many times in the hospital, the sound of someone dying, another life gone.

"David Fili, pronounced dead, 3 PM, December 25th," said the doctor as he announced David's death. Unbeknownst to the doctor, however, David's soul rose from his body as it took the form of his body.

"Am I dead?" asked David as reality hit him.

"W-Wait, I'm not ready yet, I don't wanna die, I just got a fiancé, what about my mom and dad, w-w-w-what am I supposed to do," said David as he started breaking down, tears slowly dripping down his face, his thoughts, however, were soon interrupted as a voice interrupted him.

"Hey human, I'm the grim reaper, it's time for you to move on," said the puppy in a grim reaper costume as he tried to imitate an intimidating voice, failing miserably.

David was shocked, his shock however quickly transformed into laughter as he laughed while tears were still flowing down his face.

"Hey, why are you laughing," said the puppy angrily, "I mean, How dare you laugh at me Human," the puppy quickly tried to sound intimidating, once again failing.

"I-It's nothing," said David as he wiped away his tears with a smile, "Now Mr. Grim Reaper, how about you guide me to my new home."

"Ok, let's go." said the puppy with a smile.

"How'd I do," asked the puppy as Death once again appeared to guide the two souls.

"You did good, very good," said Death as he smiled, "now let's go see your new home,"

Like that, the three set off as they started traveling to their new home.

"By the way what's your name?" asked David

"My name?" said the puppy, "How about you give me one,"

"Sure," replied David as he thought for a few minutes, "how about Neo, it's Latin for new beginnings."

"Neo...Yeah I like it," said Neo with a huge smile as it started wagging its tail, "Neo, Neo, Neo, I love it."
