Chapter 11

Mother, Edward, and Jason were the first ones up early getting coffee and sitting on the porch, the dog was up also doing his business out in the yard. Then with a surprise, Victor got up early as well, he got dressed and ran to the door.

"Oh your up early Victor, this is new, "said mother.

"Yea I know, I just wanted to check on three toes," said Victor.

"Oh, he's out in the yard going potty," said Jason.

"Why did you name him three toes?" asked Edward.

"I don't know, I guess it just came to me in the night," said Victor.

"Speaking of night, did you hear him howl last night?" asked Jason.

"I sure did, it was beautiful, it has been a long time since we've heard a wolf howl," said Edward.

"Oh it was so beautiful last night," said mother.

"It sure was, I wanted him to keep going," smiled Victor.

"Me too brother," said Jason.

Three toes came upon the porch and sat down on the steps looking at the horses. Then dirt was flying in the air.

"That could be Yellow Bird or Uncle Henry," said Jason.

When the mule came into view it was Yellow Bird. Edward smiled and went to the gate, just in case if three toes would attack or something.

"Hey Yellow Bird," said Edward.

"Hello," said Yellow Bird.

So Edward let Yellow Bird into the gate. She put her hand out so three toes could sniff her hand. Three Toes sniffed Yellow Birds hand then he licked her hand, she reached out and petting him and scratching behind his ears.

"I think he likes you," smiled Edward.

"Yeah I guess he does now," said Yellow Bird.

"So far he is doing great," said Edward.

"That's good, morning everybody," said Yellow Bird walking up towards the porch.

"Good morning, what brings you out here so early?" asked Mother.

"Well I had to eat breakfast down at the mess hall and Henry asked me to come to get the boys, there is a fence that got knocked down and he needs help repairing it," said Yellow Bird.

"Cool, let's go," said Jason jumping off the porch.

"Wait! Are you going to repair the fence in your long johns," laughed Edward.

"No!" yelled Jason running inside the house to change his clothes.

"We will be right back," said Edward going inside to change clothes.

So they changed their clothes and went back outside.

"Okay, you boys be careful," said mother.

"We will," said Jason.

"Hey can we take the dog with us?" asked Victor.

"Do you think he will stay with us, it is a big area," said Yellow Bird.

"I'm sure he will stay and won't wonder too far off, he will probably sniff around, he will stay close with us," said Victor.

"He can come," said Yellow Bird.

"Come on boy," said Victor.

He jumped off the step and ran out of the yard to get in the mule. Edward closed the gate and got on the passenger side and they drove off to the mess hall to meet up with Henry. When they arrived there was another pick up with a trailer attached to it. They got off the mule and went inside, there was a native man, Victor thought to himself "man how many natives are their" Victor rolling his eyes, he told three toes to stay outside and walked in the mess hall.

"Boys this is Chaska, he's also another friend of mine," said Henry.

"Nice to meet you," said Edward.

"Nice to meet you all," said Chaska.

"They have already met Sam on his ranch," said Henry.

"Really that's great, he is a good fellow," said Chaska.

"So what are we going to do again?" asked Victor.

"We are going to help Chaska put the fence back up, that fence separates my land from his," said Henry.

"Oh that's cool, like in the western movies, they put fences up all the time," said Jason.

"That's right, it will be hard work, we will have gloves for each of you so you don't mess your hands up," said Chaska.

"Alright let's get going," said Henry.

So they all left the mess hall, and got into Henry's truck, Henry followed Chaska. Three toes got in the back of Henry's truck and laid down. It was about a mile in a half to get exactly between Henry and Chaska's ranch. When they arrived they saw the fence down and a few more people. So they stopped and they got out of the truck.

"Great more Indians," Victor thought to himself.

When he got out the dog was waiting on him. He got out and looked at one Indian kid with short black hair, cowboy hat, long sleeve button-up shirt, blue jeans, and boots. He thought the kid looked familiar, he has seen him before, then a flashback happened a picture, kind of like a movie film.
