Silent Night Lodgings

After collecting 9 more mana stones from the bodies of the monsters he had slain, Will decided to head out for the day and made his way back to the adventurer guild, his clothes long since dry. He flashed his adventurer's card and placed the ten cores on the desk and waited. After the receptionist had confirmed his quest and the validity of the stones, Will collected his payment and promptly left the guild. He made his way to the shopping district and looked around for any inn or lodgings. He quickly found an Inn called "Silent Night Lodgings" and calmly opened the door.

There was a crisp jingle as the bell on the top of the door rappidly moved side to side. Immediately a voice from within the Inn called out to him in a friendly tone. "Welcome to Silent Night Lodgings, where our food is tasty and our walls are thick. How may I help you?"

Will entered the Inn and observed the person from which the voice came from with interest. The person who had called out to him was a girl about a year or two younger than Will, so about 18, and had long brown hair the color of the warmest hazelnut chocolate. Her eyes were filled with life and excitement while her imp like smile casted the girl as some sort of prankster.

"How much for a single night?"

"It will be 1 silver a night for a normal room and 2 silvers for a room with a soundproof enchantment. Breakfast is 5 coppers, lunch is 6, and dinner is 7. If you pay for at least a week worth of stay then it will be 6 silvers for seven nights and 20 silver coins for 30 days.

(A/N: Adjusted the price of a loaf of bread as 2 coppers.)

Will took out his money pouch and frowned. The 10 mana stones he had cashed in at the adventurers guild had brought him a silver coin. Just as Will was about to pay for a single night, the girl caught his expression, or perhaps his attitude as Will was indeed wearing a mask, and added helpfully, "You don't need to pay us all at once. If you are a little tight on money, you can pay at a later day. However, we will need a proof of identification and access to your phone in case you try to attempt a case of dine and dash."

Will nodded his head and took out his phone, and after he had hidden his personal information, handed it over to the girl. "I would like to pay for a months worth of stay for now."

The girl delightfully accepted the phone and asked, "Would you like a normal room or the 100% soundproofed room?"

"The soundproofed room."

"Great! that will be 40 silver coins. Are you ok with this price?"

"Yes."

"Amazing!" said the girl eagerly as she scanned the phone on a little device before handing it back to Will.

When Will glanced at his phone, he read:

Will put his phone away.

The girl gave a quick glance at Will's face before saying, "You probably already know this sir but just in case you don't, I would really advise against running away without paying. Once the 30 days are gone, and you still haven't paid for the stay, your phone will start to release mana that can be tracked down by the angels and you will be arrested. Hiding your face won't protect you."

Will nodded his head in understanding, albeit a little sourly. He was very familiar with the angels as he had seen a few of them drag off criminals to jail or to an execution platform. The phone was a product that the angels had created and would be given to young babies at a very early age at the nearest church. It would allow one to see their status and strength as well as track their growth. However, it would also record the criminal records of the selected individual and they were nearly impossible to remove without the help of an angel.

If one had a criminal record branded on their phones, they would be arrested the moment it was discovered at a town or city. The crimes that ones could get were {Murder}, {Stealing}, {Violence}, and {Fraud}. The crimes would only be recorded onto the phone after a person was caught and imprisoned in a prison where the guards would need to physically download the data onto the phone with the exception of debt with would temporarily ensue a {Stealing} criminal status onto the phone automatically after the time limit had passed and would be removed after the debt had been fully paid.

One always had the option of breaking their phones in order to be unable to be identified as a criminal, however, if one did do such a deed then many cities would refuse entrance to people without a phone and those people would be treated just as good as criminals. Only a few cities didn't ask for a phone confirmation, one of them being Genesis City as Adventurers saw it as a hassle whenever they entered the city. Instead they used the adventurers card as a replacement of assurance of their innocence of crime, which was undoubtedly more ineffiecient. Of course one could ask for a new phone at a church however it would usually require one to be judged by an angel who would be able to detect lies and determine whether or not someone committed a horrible crime.

"Your room will be number 8 on the second floor. Bathrooms are on either sides of the builidng near the end of the hallways."

"Thank you," replied Will as he headed upstairs to his room.
