39 chapter 39

Dan returned from his hunt with the two children and Crion. Dan made sure that Kan stayed back by having Pedro take care of him.

Four people hunting wasn't that big of a deal but with three of them not knowing how to hunt it was a big deal. Charles and Adams made a lot of noise while walking stepping on branches and leaves altering all the animals. It was to the point where Dan thought they were doing it on purpose.

Crion on the other was more silent, she was a predator after all. Although she tried her best to keep her noise to a minimal it was impossible as she was not used to her human form.

Dan showed them how to identify different types of tracks. Whether it was a boar, warthog or antelope tracks.

He also showed them basic survival types such as different types of trees and how to identify poisonous plants. Charlie actually enjoyed it as well as Crion. Adam on the other hand did not find it enjoyable. He had a frail body that was not made for hunting or any physical activity of any kind.

He preferred the magic that Pedro was teaching him. It was fun and easy to learn.

As Dan came back from hunting he saw several people sitting on the table that he had made. As he looked around he saw people washing their faces with water and brushing their teeth.

"Go back to Pedro," he said to Charlie and Adam. They both left, one with a smile and the other with a frown on his face.

"What shall I do?" Crion asked.

"Nothing, just do what you wan-" Dan paused for a moment. "On second thoughts, come with me, I have some business to take care of."

Crion followed Dan as he climed his carriage and stood in front of a compartment. She was looking around in awe as she had never been inside a carriage.

"This carriage is bigger than I thought it would be,"

"Yes, it surprised me to."

Dan knelt down and was on eye level with Crion and whispered. "I need you to do something for me, can you do it for me?"

"Sure, what is it?"

"You see this compartment? There is something inside that I want, I will take it but I need you as a lookout. Can you be my lookout?"

"Yes I can but what shall I do if someone comes, calling out your name would be suspicious would it be not?"

"That is true, just talk to whoever is coming in a loud voice that I can hear. Ask him something simple, like the weather or something just to distract him."

"Ok."

Dan stood up and activated his stealth skill that he earned. He knew that there was no one inside as he looked through the window earlier on.

Crion was a bit surprised when Dan just disappeared. She had seen this skill several times from the humans that hunted her down. She opened her two bottom eyes and she saw Dan's heat signature. She then closed her eyes.

Dan slid the compartment door open and went inside. He was looking for the cursed gold. He had every intention of killing that dragon. If the system rewarded him well for killing something that was very strong then he could only wonder what he would receive.

The compartment was like his compartment apart from the fact that it was full of boxes. Dan sniffed the air and located the box that contained what he needed.

It was a simple small box that could be carried in one hand. By Dan's approximation he could fit Kan inside it without no worries.

Dan removed the nails from the box and opened it up. To him with inhuman levels of strength it was easy. The sight of the contents of the box nearly blinded Dan's superior eyesight.

He squinted and after a while he was able to see the contents properly. Inside it was what people would consider the opportunity of a lifetime.

Golden necklaces, bracelets, coins and jewellery made of diamond and many other rare minerals. Dan smiled as he placed his hand inside it. As he rummaged through the gold and jewellery something caught his eye.

It was a small box. It was one of those boxes that contained a pair of earrings that was brought for a stuck up child. Dan picked it up and opened the small box.

Inside it was something that Dan had never thought that he would ever see in his life again. The rarest object in the entire world. Mana stones. Dan did not use mana but he knew about mana stones and how rare they were. There were five jagged stones of different shapes, sizes and colours. They ranged from turquoise green to ebony black.

Despite the name mana stones they were not actually stones. They were the phlegm of a fire dragon. Yes, the mucus of one of the most dangerous creatures to ever live. Dragons used fire breaths a lot. They would concentrate mana in their throat and then breath fire. The remenant mana would be set on fire over and over until finally the dragon would spit it out. What they spat out was the twice or thrice the size of a watermelon.

To the dragon it was just a normal phlegm and they did not want to touch it. After several hours the phlegm would dry and harden.

It would later be found by any creature that used mana such as elf's, humans and practically any other species that was not a demon. It would be cut into small pieces and be resold each small piece going for at least a few hundred kilograms of gold.

The results were well worth it. It could increase a person's innate mana at least tenfold and over. Synthia, the elf that Dan had fought with several days ago had taken only a single milligram of it as a chid and she had one of the largest mana reserves in the entire history of the academy that produced demon Lord's, kings, queens and conquerors.

Although it was really powerful, another reason that it wasn't used a lot by people was because of the side effects. A single milligram would increase a person's mana reserves so much that their body could not withstand it and they would explode. Not to mention the pain it created when a person ate it. If demon's used mana then they would be unstoppable. The only races known to be able to withstand it's effects without any damage were the fairies and spirits but they did not like pain of any kind so they kept as far away as possible from it.

Dan quickly closed the small box and threw it in his inventory.

The other box full of gold and jewellery was not an exception. It went straight into his inventory. It would be great bait for his prey.

As Dan was about to leave he picked up the sound of heavy breathing and a familiar scent coming from a smaller box. This scent he had picked it up once already.

It was when he helped the old man pick up his carriage and helped him reach the gate. Dan walked up to the box and put his ear on it. He could hear shallow breathing from it.

He opened the box easily and inside it was a small naked girl. She had pure white skin and blonde hair. She had blue eyes and pointy ears.

Wait! Pointy ears!

Dan looked at the elf child that was gagged and tied up. The girl could not see Dan at all since he was invisible, but she could feel the suppressed killing intent.

A plan had already formed in Dan's head. He smiled and leaned over, whispering in the girls ear. "Don't worry, tonight I will save you, do not make any noises, behave properly and tonight you will be free." Dan placed back the lid on the box.

"THE WEATHER IS GREAT IS IT NOT?" Dan heard Crion's loud voice. This was his signal. Dan opened the window and jumped out of it. He closed the window from the other side and walked back into the carriage. He deactivated his stealth skill after entering the carriage.

Crion was talking in a loud voice to the man who Dan had woken up earlier this morning.

Dan walked up to him. If he was the owner of the jewels then he would need an alibi.

What better way then letting him see him.

"Move!" Dan said in a gruff voice. The man looked back and moved out of Dan's way.

Crion followed him and entered the compartment Dan was in earlier.

Maknan was sitting in her seat reading a book.

Dan sat down in front of him and Crion sat next to him.

Maknan looked up and when she noticed Crion she asked. "Who is this child?"
