Act Two: Chapter Fourteen: The Ring

Before entering the main lab, we had to pass through the sterilizing room. We were sprayed with Ethylene Oxide for sterilization and after which we were given a green light to enter. As we entered the room, the source of those screeching screams came into view. A pale man was strapped to an operating bed.

The subject was overseen by two individuals. A female nurse and a man wearing a lab coat. The man was Dr. Jackal, in his late fifties and had dull gray hair and glasses. He looked at us with anger and confusion.

[Who...What are you doing? agent! why have you brought this...Man, while this sensitive matter is at work]

I didn't pay much attention to what that old man was saying. My mind was rather sat on the pale man. He was tied securely to bed and hook on the heart rate monitor, which was showing a high rate of 230 bpm. Something that high should have been fatal or rather that point which would have been impossible to reach while keeping the subject alive.

Other than that, there was an IV needle going inside his. Injecting a light green liquid into his veins, causing them to be highlighted throughout his body, reaching his head and eyes. His eyes had become green in color and were bulging outwards. Suddenly he looked at me and tried to lunge at me, only being stopped by the strips over his body.

He had gone insane because of the pain. The amulet shined, as agent Mark took out his gun and fired at both the subject and the nurse in the head. The room fell into silence.

[What are you doing? Have you lost your mind? Do you have any idea what you have just done?]

The agent pointed his gun at Dr. Jackal.

[Just fucking shut up already old man...If you can't tell agent Mark over here, is under my influence and I am here to retrieve the ring]

[What!... On earth are you talking about? I have no such thing]

He slowly backed away from us.

[You might not know about it, but you have a certain artifact, a ring with a green gem embedded in it]

He reached the control panel behind him and quickly acted by typing. I allowed him to do as he wanted.

[So let me guess, you do know what I am talking about...So just hand it over, I don't want to deal with anything new]

A peal of silent laughter escaped his mouth, as he taps the last key.

[I am not handing over anything!... Everything here is mine and mine alone, I won't let you have my years of research]

On the right side of me were five large iron doors with a small window in the top center. Two out of five opened sliding out of the way. Reviling two monsters of a human. Large in size and muscular, both roared as they stepped outside.

[I don't know how you did get inside the foundation, but you are not leaving and that measly gun won't help you]

Both of their body and face once resembled a human's, but now swollen. Their skin was thin and green, starched tightly across swollen muscles, with the addition of green eyes.

[Even though their intelligence is now of insect, they still are strong enough to tear you a part]

The monsters roared in confusion and looked at both around. Just then I had a bright idea. The amulet glowed and both of their eyes gave shined blue. Both monsters became claims and quiet. Dr. Emmett became dumbfounded as those violent creatures suddenly claim down.

[Fine then have it your way, both of you grab Dr. Jackal!]

Both of them nodded and marched towards Dr. Jackal. In the end, he was just confused and scared out of his mind.

[Wha...What is going on?]

[Redemption!]

As both walked over, he felled back horrified.

[No!... No! Stop!]

One of them grabbed him by the shoulder and lifted him, facing him towards me.

[Shut up and listen to the old man...I could have just taken your memory or controlled you...but this would be more fun and I don't want to know whatever is inside of that mind of yours anyway]

[Unhand...Me at once...Do you know who I am?]

[A Scum of the earth, which is the cause of so much pain and deserves to die in a most humiliating and painful manner... yes, that about sums it up...Are you willing to talk or not?]

He kept his mouth shut and kept quiet. I didn't mind it at all, because that gave me an excuse to hurt him. I took the gun from agent Mark,s hand and shot his knee. He screamed in pain. He started to struggle, so I fired another shot in his shoulder and he screamed even more. One of the monsters which were holding him tightened grip where I shot him, which caused him even more pain. It took a while for him to shut up about it.

[Fine, I...I will tell you, please...No more]

I couldn't help smile, because I knew exactly where the ring was. This whole lab was made for the experimentations with the ring. Along the walls, there were thin green tubes, all leading towards a cylindrical machine halfway inside the wall. I could sense the ring inside it.

[Haa...I am just playing with you old man, I know where the ring is]

His face broke down in horror.

[Say do remember those two behind you...Do you remember their name?]

He stayed quiet.

[One holding you, his name is Cody and the other one is Reco. Of course, you know that...Right?]

He stayed quiet again.

[It sad, that you don't remember the names of the people you kill or turned into monsters. At least you must know how many you have killed...Right?]

He was silent again. I sighed. Not that I was trying to play the role of a hero, as my acting on my interest. But if I were to encounter something like this. I, of course, will take some kind of action.

[That's it... kill him]

I said that, as I started walking towards the ring.

[W...Wait...Please don't...]

Cody threw him on the ground. He looked towards the agent.

[Help...Me]

[It won't work...He is under my control]

I finally told him, as Reco came forth and stomped into his back. A loud crunch and he went limp, but alive or rather breathing. Reco again tried and this time stomped his head into pieces. I touched the machine and commanded it to open. The fluid outtake stopped and the cover opened. First horizontally, then vertically, and then slowly extruded a container with a dark green orb inside.

I took it out of its container. The ring was inside it, on the outside, the orb had a small crack from where a green fluid was spilling out. I gave the orb a small whack with the back of the cross. With that, the orb cracked open and popped out a ring embedded with the gem of the Emerald King.

I quickly put it on my finger. Immediately the pain shot up, through my finger to my whole. I crumbled down on the ground coughing. Soon the pain reached my eyes and then it vanished. My body became light, but suddenly a cold breeze flowed through my hair. I looked up and I was in front of St Paul's Cathedral's main door.
