Chapter One: Soterkit, Gingerkit, and Silverkit

Slowly emerging, Silverkit heard voices speaking in the background as a gust of wind brushed over her small body. Her mother, Bristlefoot, encircled her with her tail. She had two brothers, Soterkit and Gingerkit, although she wasn't yet aware of this. She finally opened her eyes after being awakened by the wind. Little light was above her, so she looked to her left and saw a huge opening with more light than what was slowly seeping in.

"Grrr...I'll get you Gingerkit!" a voice said from not that far away.

Silverkit moved to the Nursery's entrance to see two young Toms playing rough with one another. She heard her mother calling out to her before she recognized it. "Silverkit, you can go play with them too, they are your brothers, Gingerkit and Soterkit. Just don't go too far from the Nursery."

Silverkit nodded as she made her way towards them outside the nursery, when one of her brothers eventually shouted; "You'll get me, Soterkit? Cause I got you!" Gingerkit said with pride. "Yeah, well, you just got lucky!" A big warrior went by, peering at them with one side of his head, and Soterkit hissed in humiliation. The tom's ears perked up when he turned and saw his sister.

"Your awake! Gingerkit, look!" Soterkit pushed Gingerkit off of him as he went running towards his sister with excitement.

Silverkit looked at Soterkit with his blazing orange and black pelt with his white paws and spotted face. Gingerkit followed not long after he brushed the dirt off his fur and came towards the two with his brown and white pelt.

"You look like a leaf Gingerkit." Silverkit said with a straight face while turning her head slightly as her ear shifted down to the right slightly.

"A leaf? You look like a-. . . a leaf!" Gingerkit stuttered as he tried to insult her back.

"She looks like a flower! You're a leaf Gingerkit!" Soterkit said with a laugh in his voice.

As Silverkit merely observed, the two brothers got into a minor argument. The three instantly sensed their mother's scent and nervously turned as a huge shadow moved closer.

"Uh. . .mom, hey!" The two said almost simultaneously at the same time.

Bristlefoot stared at the two with disappointment. "And what are you arguing about that is so serious?"

The two toms said nothing as silence filled the air outside the nursery.

"Well-" Soterkit began as Silverkit budded in.

"I called Gingerkit a leaf, so he called me a leaf, but Soterkit called me a flower, and then I don't know they just got into an argument haven't been paying attention." Silverkit said. "It's my fault."

"Well, Gingerkit and Silverkit, you'll spend the rest of high noon in the nursery. Soterkit, you may do as you please." Bristlefoot said with a commanding loud voice that sent a shiver down all of their spines.

"Well if they're going to go then I will too." Soterkit said with pride.

"Alright then Soterkit, your decision."

Bristlefoot took Silverkit by the scruff and let the other two proceed in their direction of the nursery. Bristlefoot instructed Gingerkit and Soterkit to wait in a nest when they arrived since she would soon return. Even though, she had never put down Silverkit.

"Mom? Can you put me down now?" Silverkit questioned but her mother just bit harder into her scruff. Silverkit pinned her ears as she squirmed a bit.

"Stay here." Bristlefoot commanded to her two kits as she walked away.
