Meeting in the dark

As Aurelia left my room, the echo of the door closing seemed to reverberate through my very soul. I sighed heavily, reaching into my dress and pulling out a folded piece of paper. I unfolded it slowly, the words written in a sharp, precise hand staring back at me: "Come meet me at 8 pm today."

I sank onto the edge of my bed, the weight of the message pressing down on me. My mind drifted back to the conversation with the demon killer's spy. The memory of his sneering face and the cold menace in his voice sent a shiver down my spine.

"If you don't come, your secret will be revealed, and you don't want that."

The threat hung over me like a dark cloud. I couldn't afford to let my secret come to light, not now, not ever. I had worked too hard to keep it hidden, and the consequences of its revelation were unthinkable. I knew I had no choice but to go to the meeting, despite the danger it posed.
