1 The Birth of a Savior

Queen Lucia gave one final push as her midwives delivered her second born child. She panted as her legs grew weak. The midwives were swift as they cut the umbilical cord and checked the baby. Lucia could hear the faint cries and smile. She had done it again, given birth. It was always a blessing to survive but even more to carry this little miracle to full term. Prior to this child, Queen Lucia had miscarried six times due to war or stress. She felt very grateful that this child was going to be strong. Lost in her thoughts one of the two midwives came over and rubbed her hands. " I'm sorry dear but this one is a boy," said Olga, a mid-aged midwife. Lucia's eyes widen as she looked around. In the room were only the two midwives and a lowly servant boy. Everyone else and the kingdom was all holding their breath outside her chambers waiting to hear the grand news. "Will I be able to bear another child?" The two midwives looked at her then glanced between her legs. The two ladies huddled together by the fireplace and discussed the queen's options. The elder midwife Carol was the first to speak. "My dear, given that you barely suvived this birth and the previous attempts. We fear its best to not attempt again. For your own safety and that of the kingdom. Princess Catherine still has much to learn before ruling. " Queen Lucia nodded as she wiped her brow and closed her eyes. She knew the royal rule was to kill her son. That way there would be no threat to the 800-year rules that drew this kingdom to prosper. Lucia groaned as the after birth passed and the midwives sewed her up. She debated on whether to carry out the duty. That's when the lowly servant approached the queen. " Please don't kill the baby. It's not his fault he was born a boy. " The queen frown, " I know but a royal boy will be a great calamity for this kingdom." The servant frowned before looking up, " I know I am not the brightest but I'm sure if you never tell the boy he's a boy. He may just believe he is a girl." The three women laughed because there were major differences between the two genders. However, killing an offspring was hard. " For now announce I had a girl. but .... that she is rather sickly. Until I official decide what to do," Queen Lucia said as she smiled at the servant. " young boy if this child does survive you must pledge your life to serve her. " The young servant hugged the queen.

As the news spread the town people were excited. They sang words of praised and prayed for the baby princess to have a smooth recovery. The kingdom partied for three days for another royal girl was born. That meant good fortune for all and good crops.
