I panicked.

I struggled. I kicked. I clawed at the strong arm that prevented me from screaming.

"Shh! Calm down. It's me!"

My captor turned me around, his hand still covering my mouth. My eyes widened when I saw who it was. I stopped struggling.

Luca removed his hand from my mouth. "What are you doing here?" he asked, bewildered.

"I could ask the same of you," I retorted. I was leaning on my knees and catching my breath, still recovering from the shock. "Why did you jump me like that?"

"Sorry. I didn't mean to. But why are you here? Why aren't you at the ball?"

"I sneaked out with Cece. She said she'd show me something."

"Cecelia? She asked me to come too."

"What? Why are you with Cece?" I glared at him.

He stared back at me thoughtfully, ignoring my question. Then his face relaxed, having come to a conclusion. "Oh," he muttered.
