CONFIRMATION

Everyone stopped laughing at sound of Meixue's voice. Even though she said it politely, the dismissive undertone cannot be missed.

To ease the awkward situation, Li Jun spoke, "I'll get that water for you Xue'er." He then looked at the store owner apologetically.

Yu Yan on the other hand held the hand of the store owner and motioned for her to sit down with them. The store owner was close to them and treated them like her children so it was unsettling for Yu Yan how Tang Meixue spoke to her.

"Auntie, come and sit. Let's talk about how you've been while I was away."

The store owner hesitantly sat beside Yu Yan. Though the atmosphere turned awkward, it slowly turned back to the way it was before.

"So your son got married auntie? But he's younger than me right?"

"Yan'er that's why you and Li Jun should get married as soon as possible. You are not getting any younger."

As the store owner said that, Yu Yan almost choked on her food. How awkward can this get she thought.

Yu Yan doesn't even know the real deal behind Li Jun and Tang Meixue. And to have that phrase thrown out of the blue, even if it is not that surprising as everyone, since they were children, assumes that she and Li Jun would end up together. Still 5 years have passed and there was no confirmation of an engagement.

Yu Yan carefully looked at the reaction of Li Jun. She's trying to figure out where he stands in all this.

"Auntie don't say that. Yan'er's boyfriend will get mad." Li Jun jokingly stated.

Tang Meixue's demeanor stiffened. Her hand holding the utensils clenched. This was what Tang Meixue fears. The day that Yu Yan comes back and she'll be pushed aside.

"Auntie yes, don't joke around Li Jun might get scared and ran away from me." Yu Yan said. There was a tinge of pain as Li Jun just brushed off the topic but she's used to that. He always treated her more like a sister anyways.

"But seriously, when are the two of you getting married?"

"Uhm.." Yu Yan doesn't know how to reply. She looked at Li Jun and saw him slowly took Tang Meixue's hand. As if reassuring her that everything is fine.

"Auntie Yu Yan and I are not getting married. We, on the other hand," Li Jun said holding Tang Meixue's hand, "will get married maybe two years from now."

There it is. Yu Yan mind blew up here Li Jun's words. There is the confirmation she needed. The hand holding, the sweet talk on the way to the restaurant. The whiny conversation. Of course Tang Meixue wouldn't act the way she acted if she's not his girlfriend.

There were telltales. Little trails from the moment she saw them at the arrivals. However. She didn't want to believe it. She couldn't believe it.

"Oh, I thought this child.." the store owner couldn't finish her words as the atmosphere turned awkward for the second time.

"You kids, I'm just babbling. Enjoy your meals now, I'll get back inside the kitchen now." the store owner said as she gently patted Yu Yan's shoulder.
