Worth It

      Jamie and Ilona came to the end of the tunnel and stood back in the shadows looking out and scanning the surroundings for dragons.  Now that they were here, Ilona's anger had momentarily cooled and been replaced with fear.

      The dragons watched these entrances.  One could be somewhere just out of sight, watching and waiting for them.

      "If we get eaten because you threw a temper tantrum and stormed out," Jamie hissed, "I will never forgive you."

      Ilona shot him a look but felt a pang of guilt.  He was only teasing, but he did have a point.  If something happened to them, it would be her fault.

      For a moment, she considered giving up and going back, but the idea of seeing Mason again so soon made her hurt and anger reignite.  She couldn't face him again.  Not yet.

      "Could they be on the side of the mountain above us?" Ilona whispered her question, feeling her heart beating hard in her chest at the thought.
