The Man In The Jungle
Ilona felt her heart beating hard in her chest and her blood rushing in her ears. Her hands went to the hilts of her swords, and the solidness of them brought her a bit of comfort. She could defend herself if she had to.
Lord, she hoped she didn't have to. She hoped it wouldn't come to that. The drizzle of the rain washed over her skin, soaking her clothes.
"What...What are you doing here?" she asked the figure in front of her as the breeze whipped her hair about, pulling pieces free from her braid and pasting them to her cheek.
"I was just out for a bit of an evening stroll," the man answered.
Ilona frowned, "It's not really the weather for a stroll, is it?"
As if to prove her point, thunder rumbled overhead, and a quick little pulse of lightning hopped through the clouds. The man before her was slowly being drenched just as she was.
