12 Chapter 12: Declaration of War

After conversating with the third years for a few minutes, Ren eventually split from Nejire and Yuyu after they introduced themselves and got to know each other a little as it was nearing the end of lunch.

"It took 10 minutes for you to come back! 10! What piss takes 10 minutes?!" Kaminari exclaimed after Ren sat back down on the table.

"First of all, how do you know I took a piss? All I said was I'm going toilet, pervert. Second, I was chatting to people" Ren replied, silencing Kaminari as the others looked at him suspiciously.

"I just guessed it was a piss... I swear, I'm innocent..." He mumbled to himself as he rest his head against the table.

"We should go back to class... the bell's going to go anytime soon" Tokoyami suggested, to which the others nodded in agreement as they walked back to class after putting their trays away.

And so, the day went by fast until it was eventually the end of school. The class had been told by Aizawa that they had 2 weeks to prepare themselves for the sports festival.

"Uhh... what's going on!?" Uraraka questioned when she opened the door to see a massive group of students standing outside their class chatting.

"What're they here for!?" Mineta asked obviously, causing Bakugo beside him to stand up and walk toward the students confidently

"To scope out the competition, duh. Small fry" He said to Mineta, "Cuz we're the kids who survived a villain attack. Makes sense they'd want to check us out before the competition" He arrived at the door and faced the students with a glare

"No point, though. Now move aside, cannon fodder" He ordered, causing Ida to reprimand him and tell him to not refer to new people as 'Cannon fodder' whenever he meets them.

"Looks like its true..." A tired voice with purple hair loomed in the crowd of students as they slowly walked through the crowd and arrived in front of Bakugo to reveal an indigo-haired boy with dark eye bags under his eyes, "We came to get a look, but you sure are modest" He said sarcastically

"Are all the kids in the hero course like THIS one?" The indigo haired boy provoked Bakugo purposefully which angered him, "Gotta say, I'm a little disillusioned if this is what you're offering. Those of us who didn't make the hero course are stuck in general studies and the other tracks. There're quite a few of us, did you know that?"

'That sounds more like a skill issue than anything to be honest' Ren thought as he looked at the indigo-haired boy, who he identified as Hitoshi Shinso as he carried on talking to Bakugo and all of 1-A in a challenging tone.

"Depending on the results of this sports festival... They might consider transferring us to the hero course. I understand the reverse is also possible for you..."

Hearing that they had the possibility to be swapped out of the class, the 1-A students tensed up a little as they realised how detrimental the sports festival was, and not only for scouting purposes.

"Scoping out the competition?" Shinso scoffed, "For a general studies student like me... this'll be the perfect chance to knock you off your pedestals. Consider this a declaration of war" He announced.

"'War'? Don't make me laugh..." Everyone turned to see Ren walk directly in front of Shinso as he looked down at him with prideful eyes, "Who decided that?"

Shinso looked at up at Ren with hateful eyes wanting to argue back but was interrupted by a loud, energetic voice shouting "HEY. I'M FROM CLASS 1-B, RIGHT NEXT DOOR!"

Everybody looked to see a boy with messy grey hair and his presumed-eyebrows all around his eyes.

"HEARD YOU GUYS FOUGHT SOME VILLAINS. WANTED TO FIND OUT MORE, BUT... ALL I'M SEEING IS SOME ARROGANT BASTARDS" The boy from 1-B, who Ren identified as Testutetsu Tetsutetsu (His parents must have -10 naming sense), shouted as he looked at Bakugo and Ren whilst jumping behind the crowd.

"YOU BETTER NOT MAKE FOOLS OF US HERO COURSE STUDENTS AT THIS SPORTS FESTIVAL!" Tetsutetsu shouted.

"..." The students were silent.

"Who're you?" Bakugo asked cluelessly causing an uproar with the students who shouted at him for being a 'cocky bastard' and whatnot, "Just move out my way, I'm tryna go home" He said as he pushed through the crowd, knocking a few unmoving students on the floor here and there.

"As expected of 1-A... you guys survived an attack from villains and now you think you're all that, don't you-" Shinso kept going, but no one wanted any of it so Ren did them a favour by petrifying him and then throwing him into the crowd of students, allowing for 1-A to leave.

The next day, Saturday - which Ren hated because he was used to having a 2 day weekend rather than 1 before coming to this world - Ren arrived in school and the day went by quite normally.

At lunch time, thanks to the altercation from yesterday, the tables full of 1-A students were getting hateful eyes by the students from the other classes.

"These bastards are really pissing me off... maybe I should just blow them into pieces!" Bakugo said, angry at the blatant eyes on them.

"As much as I think any of us would love, you probably shouldn't" Kirishima sighed as he pat Bakugo's shoulder to calm him down, "So, what're you guys gonna do to train for the sports festival?" Kirishima asked enthusiastically.

"Train Dark Shadow" Tokoyami replied, not giving much detail other than that.

"I'd say train my quirk... but I don't really know how to be honest" Sero said with a frown, "It's not a quirk like you guys that's quite easy to train, it's just tape ya know"

"How about you train shooting your tape as much as you can? Or using your tape as a distraction or annoyance method" Ren suggested

"What do you mean?" Sero asked, wanting to know more.

"Well, you can start by shooting as much tape from your arm and break your limits by firming the pain. As for the distraction and annoyance method, how about you try and come up with moves that can disable a person's movement or at least halt it"

"Like string shot from Pokemon?" Sero asked.

"Sure... like string shot from pokemon, I guess" Ren shrugged, giving Sero the satisfaction he wanted with his reference though it wasn't really what he was going for.

"I'm gonna make explosions" Bakugo said.

"We know you are... x5" The boys said in response to Bakugo, "That's all you do" Kaminari added.

"HUH!? HOW ABOUT I EXPLODE YOU THEN!?"

"If that's you're way of flirting, you won't get any girlfriend anytime soon, Bakugo~" Kaminari teased, causing Bakugo to shout and scream in anger

"What about you, Kaminari?" Kirishima asked as they all ignored Bakugo's temper-tantrum like they usually do.

"I'll probably try and increase how much volts I can use before turning dumb" He answered, "How about you?" He asked Kirishima.

"I'll get stronger!" He declared as he punched his palm with a smirk, "What about you, Ren?" Kirishima asked

"Just go gym, I guess" Ren shrugged, before another idea came to mind "Maybe learn a fighting style or two, actually"

"Oh, right!" Kirishima raised his voice in realisation as he turned to Ren, "I won't be able to go gym with you this month as I don't have money to renew my membership, so you'll have to go yourself"

"That's fine, I've got music on my side!" Ren gave a thumbs-up, "Imma get some more food" Feeling hungry, he stood up and went to the back of the queue.

As he waited in line, two familiar voices could be heard calling his name out, "Ren!/Ren" One voice was energetic, the other was relaxed.

He turned around to see Nejire and Yuyu standing with him in the queue, "Yo, Nejire, Yuyu!" He waved.

He then looked behind them to see two guys, one was a blonde boy who looked at him with a smile, and the other was a shy indigo-haired boy who wasn't making eye contact with anybody.

"Heyyy! I've heard about you from Nejire and Yuyu, the name's Mirio Togata, nice to meet ya!" The blonde boy said energetically as he grabbed Ren's hand and shook it profusely, "Woah, you've got a strong, firm hand! Do you go gym?" He asked as he let go.

"Yup! I'm Ren Kiyotaka, though I'm guessing you already knew that..." Ren glanced at Nejire and Yuyu who looked away and whistled as they ignored his eye contact, "And he's...?" Talking about the shy boy beside Mirio.

"Tamaki Amajiki, he's pretty shy but he's cool beans!" Mirio laughed as he put his hand on Tamaki's shoulder, "Come on, Tamaki, introduce yourself!" Mirio pushed him forward as Tamaki looked at Ren for a split second before averting his eyes.

"Uh-Uh... I-I'm T-Ta..." He stuttered for a bit before he slammed his head on the wall beside them, "I can't do it... Sorry, Mirio..." He apologised.

"Come on, Tamakiii!" Nejire began patting him on the back profusely, "You've gotta man up a little!" She commented, to which Tamaki whispered under his breathe something that no one heard, "So, have you heard about the sports festival yet?" Nejire asked Ren.

"Yeah, we got told about it yesterday" Ren replied as he now stood in front of the line and paid for some food on his plate, "You guys got any advice as third years for your underclassman?" He asked jokingly as he waited for them to get their food.

"Um..." Nejire hesitated as she looked at Tamaki and Mirio, before she remembered that they probably wouldn't be helpful since they've been at the bottom these last 2 years, "Well, they usually make sure to change the events so they're different every year, so I... do not know!" Nejire said with an innocent thumbs-up as she held her tray in her other hand.

'Was that a motherfuckin' RDC reference??' Ren thought.

Yuyu then slapped the back of Nejire's head, "Yuyu!" She pouted, though it didn't hurt.

"You guys are hopeless when it comes to advice" Yuyu sighed, "There's not really much advice we can give other than the usual 'give your all' and make sure you train for the possibility of any event" She said.

"You know I was joking, right...?" He muttered as he looked at the girls, causing them to look at each other before looking back at Ren

"Of course we did!" They both said at the same time, 'Definitely' They thought.

"Hahaha! I like this guy, Tamaki!" Ren heard Mirio laugh as he wrapped his arm around Tamaki's shoulder.

"Please let me go, Mirio... I'm gonna drop my plate..." Tamaki muttered, causing Mirio to let go to avoid his food dropping.

"Ooo! Ooo!" Nejire piped up suddenly as they were near an empty table for the third years to sit down on (Ren walked with them without thinking).

"You said you go gym, right!? Right!?" She asked enthusiastically, to which Ren nodded, "How about you workout with us? What gym do you go to?!"

"The local Musutafu gym, not far from here" He replied, causing Nejire's smile to grow.

"That's the one we go to, great! How about it, wanna join us?" She asked as she looked up at Ren with puppy eyes.

'I don't know if she's doing that on purpose or not...' He thought, "Sure, my usual gym buddy said he can't go this month anyway, so that works out perfectly" Ren answered with a smile.

"Hell yeah! A new gym bro!" Mirio laughed as he flexed his bicep, "How about you give me your number so I can message you when I go gym?!" He asked.

"Wow... I can't tell if Mirio is not attracted to women, or if he's just really good at making friends with guys" Yuyu muttered, knowing that Mirio doesn't have many girls' numbers except for her's and Nejire's, and his mother.

"Oo! Oo! How about we all give you our numbers?! And make a groupchat!?" Nejire got excited as she liked the idea of having a new friend.

"A-Another one...? You've already made like 7 groupchats, Nejire..." Tamaki muttered.

"W-well that's because I like making friends!" Nejire flushed as she argued Tamaki's words.

"But 3 are your family groupchats, 1 of you and your siblings, 1 of your main family, and then 1 for all of your family members. Then you've got 1 for us, another 1 is for our class, another 1 of your siblings and us, another 1 of our year that no one messages on-" Yuyu kept fueling the flame, causing Nejire to cover her mouth with her hands to stop her from talking.

"WE GET IT!" She said, embarrassed, "A-Anyway, just take our numbers!"

And so, Ren got the numbers of his senpais before returning to his table with the boys.
