Emma's face was as shocked as mine when our mother denied her demand to leave. I'd expected her to simply agree and go along with everything Emma said as she had always done. What was different? Was she finally opening her eyes to the reality that Emma had her and my father blinded? 

"Mother, why?" She pointed an accusing finger at me. "What could you possibly have to talk about with HER?" 

"She's my daughter. I don't have to explain myself to you. Take your husband and leave before he commits an infidelity right in front of our eyes," my mother glared at Harold, who was still making eyes at Delilah. She was firmly ignoring him, but I could see the smirk on her face. What powers did this woman possess to keep so many men around for so long?
