20 #020 Chapter XX Mortal 5

I thought I had played my hand against the prophecy but I ended up playing directly into it. Sitting, regretting falling into the God's trap, I feel my anger rise and then settle. I then realise: I ultimately make the choices that decide my fate. In this moment I decide to take control of my destiny.

I ask for assistance to put the last few comforting touches on my quarters and the go to sit in the prepared garden that hits me as too similar to the garden of the Wu Manor and I cry in the shade of the peach trees crying for my dead husband and for my fatherless child. In my sadness my child shifts uncomfortably in my womb breaking a rib on accident.

I cry out in pain and faint on the grassy floor that is almost completely covered by the leaves from the bamboo forest and the leaves and flowers from the peach trees. It takes a minute for the servants to pour into the garden searching for me.

When I'm found I am still unconscious but I see 3everything happening in an out of body experience. I'm dying I realize as I see the flurries of panic register in the faces of the servants and doctors. My rib splintered when it broke and a fragment punctured one of my lungs.

I watch as I go into forced labor and feel relief when my baby is born safely and placed into the arms of a mid wife. I don't think I can be saved and follow my child to where the wet nurse takes the child from the midwife and cleans and then wraps my baby.

The mid wife takes my baby to a waiting the waiting Crown Prince. This time the Crown Prince isn't wearing a mask and I can see his joy as he holds the baby and then he looks up and in my sight I am greeted with the face of Wu Koe. The midwife delivers news of my slim chance of survival and he rushes to my bed side.

I don't know how I have been able to hang on and am shocked when the Crown Prince touches my arm I am sucked back into my body and I feel unbearable pain accompanied by the warm touch of the Crown Prince's touch.

"I'm sorry, I lied to you, I'm sorry I left, but please don't leave me," this Crown Prince Tuoba He Zhen of Great Chu, is also my Wu Koe of Sheng, cries cradling my hand and my baby to his chest. "I wanted to think of a way to tell you but my father's illness sent him into a coma and I didn't know we were expecting, I wanted you to keep living a carefree life," he pleads to me. I can't help but cry as I realize that he means his words but also that I am now doing to him and our baby what I was most mad about him for doing: leaving them.

Dying isn't in my wishes and I wish my magic wasn't exhausted but I had been protecting and infusing my magic into my unprotected child. The Crown Prince lays our child down on my chest and he begins to gather his Nether magic. He cast a protective spell on our child and then attempts to heal me using the assistance of my Eather magic guards. together they manage to close my wounds and bind my rib into a position to heal.

An old wonder doctor born of two very powerful parents, an superior Eather Father and a Supreme Nether Mother, is found to help heal me in the next few hours. I am saved but unable to wake up. I want to run away tired of the heart wretched feeling that weighs heavy in my mind.

I desperately want to wake up and whisk my child away, I also want to save my Empire, raise my child, and I want to become a great Empress. In my unconcious state the Wu Koe/ Touba He Zhen tells me we had a son, he also begins to tell me his story and tells me he is sorry many times. He announces to his Empire that the child I birthed was his through and through and his Tuoba Xing son would be his Crown Prince.

I don't want to imprison my small son in such straits as being the next ruler before he has even uttered his first words, but in my state I am in no position to protest or approve anything.

It is three days before my son's three month banquet when I am visited by my son and his father. The Wu family is brought to my palace to see me and with some help I wake up. The room falls into tears as I automatically call out "My child!" and hold my flat empty belly.

I don't recall everything I experienced when I was unconscious but I recall hearing the words of Wu Koe explaining that his real name is Tuoba He Zhen and that he is the Crown Prince of Great Chu. I try to get up to search for my child and am forced to lay back down as He Zhen brings my child to me. Tuoba He Zhen holds my child affectionately and sits next to me hugging me to him and passing me our son.

"This is Tuoba Xing, we have yet to grant him a complete name and he waited so long to meet his mother," He Zhen says as I cradle my beauty son to my chest. I cry as I study his face and realize he took after He Zhen more than me only his eyes are similar to mine, he had my smile at least, and his hair color is lighter but still dark enough to be black.

"I will consider forgiving you later," I warn before I tell him my idea. "Tuoba Xing Wu Hai Ke," I say knowing when my son grew up he would have to learn many characters to just write his name.

I cradle my small son to my chest and admire his beauty. He reminds me of a little white bun. I am left alone with my son finally and I enjoy being able to raise him like my mother raised me.

It's been two months since I woke up and today I get to remarry. Tuoba He Zhen is the same as he was when he was Wu Koe and I am thankful that he is alive but the amount of love I developed for him is dangerous and I can't let him back into my heart so easily.

After I am dolled up in my flowing red Phoenix gown and wear a phoenix crown of fine gold, I marry Emperor Tuoba He Zhen and become Empress Xing Bai Mi. We successfully complete all rituals until the consummation.

When we are in the wedding night bed I refuse to sleep with him. "My husband died and I promised him I wouldn't forget him. I can't sleep with you, I'm still mourning," I rebuke He Zhen.

"Your husband appreciates you thoughtfulness but we are reunited. I will respect your wishes,"he says as he rolls over allowing me space to sleep without him. "but I missed you for so long, I don't know how long I can behave," He Zhen teases after a while of laying away from me.

He hugs me to him, I lay with my head on his chest and he makes no further moves. To have him in my arms is my hearts wish and I can't resist brushing a soft kiss on his chest. I stumble in shock at his presence and my lack of clothing. I quickly throw on one of the ones I had just removed. I turn to face He Zhen after I get my blush under control. I stare daggers at him waiting for him to explain his presence.

"I'm sorry I scared you guys," He Zhen replies turning himself away from me. I place one hand on my baby belly and watch him stand still and fight the urge to walk over and hug him. I exit the room and sit in the tea room.

"It's my fault for not being aware of your presence, Your Majesty," I say curtly. He Zhen makes his way to sit at the table with me.

"Your Majesty sounds regal but if that is all you address me by I'll be sad the rest of my life," He Zhen says as he pours wine from a jade bottle with gold engravings into two fine jade cups with a gold engraving similar to the bottle. He passes one cup to me and takes his. "Cheers," he says setting the cup to his lips.

"You know I can't drink but cheers, Your Highness" I reply only taking a tiny sip before abandoning my cup. I call for a pot of tea and am served a white jade tea pot. I reach to pour it but He Zhen beats me to it serving us in the white jade cups.

"You know that's not what I mean, I mean you are pregnant with ~our second~ child, and we haven't been together since our wedding night. Surely you love me or else why would you be so careful with my baby?" He Zhen reasons. I truly haven't been in his bed since our wedding night.

"We had our pleasure but my children are my treasures, it has nothing to do with you," I defend myself. I truly protect our children because they come from our pure love and we made them both after we'd wedded. "Besides they are my flesh and blood, surely I treat them best, who knew your most fulfilling quality would be reproduction," I mock. "You are the one I love most, I just want to hear you call me husband, my dear wife it's been seven months since we've been officially married and it's been a year three months two weeks and five days since we first married. I have yet to take a Consort even though the court repeatedly begs me to, I will only love you," He Zhen promises.

"My dear husband?" I say. "Why he passed away leaving me depressed and with child. Why I felt quite abandoned," I remind him. He looks like he realizes the sweetness and the love I still hold for him. His eyes twinkle as an idea forms and I become unaware of his plan until it's too late. He gets up and pulls me into his strong arms.

"What are you going to reward me with?" I ask skeptically. He Zhen face lights up with a mischievous smile and he begins to take off my robes one by one. Being pregnant has made me want him even more. I use a large pull of my magic to protect my child for the next events that transpire.

I feel disgust as I even think about suggesting He Zhen just marry the blasted woman and shut Huai up for good. I also think of personally smashing Huai for plaguing Sheng and Great Jin's borders. I don't feel good and my health also affects the baby so I keep trying to calm myself.

My tactics aren't working and so I go to lay down with my sleepy little bun and my upset unborn child. When I wake up again He Zhen is holding all of us and I calm down going into a peaceful sleep. When I awake to my little buns stirring I realize He Zhen is gone once more and he leaves behind a decree. He leaves a note inside the decree.

This decrees you as Emperor Mai instead of Empress Dowager on behalf of you passing the throne to one of our children when you retire or after you pass away. I hope you will one day chose to be Empress dowager and enjoy being spoiled by your children and their children. If life threatening harm befalls me this guarantee the Empire and our people will be safe. I wouldn't allow my husband to perish nor would allow inner instability in the nation. I send out a part of my Jade Dragon battalion to secure people in positions of power to help the empire and to replace ones aiming to profit from the empires struggles.

I send word to my father and we join hands to protect Great Jin, Sheng, and Great Chu. Huai on the other hand was about to be wiped off the books of history. Sadly I don't consider that Huai has help from inside and large external powers. A secret giant empire has amassed of many small countries. The Chun family of old Huai was tired of being easily defeated and so they fled to the small countries eventually gaining complete power ready to all become part of Huai ready to attack and destroy Great Jin, Sheng, and then Great Chu.

After eliminating inside betrayers I send back a few of my Jade Dragon guards to defend my father. Little do I know that my husband has been captured and is being raped as the last of my preparations to defend three empires move into place.

It takes a month for a message to reach me about He Zhen being captured but confirmed alive. When I find out He Zhen has been captured I go into shock. Luckily I have spent much magic to protect my growing fetus. I am pulled from the plans and forced to rest in preparation for my child's coming birth. I spend more time with my little bun as we prepare for another child to join us.

I deliver my baby safely and healthily. I am blessed with another son and I raise him for the first month of his life. I don't give him a proper name as I worry about his father and I keep receiving news of He Zhen being alive but still being held captive.

There is a feeling of knowing that things will deteriorate at any moment and as soon as I am fit for battle I send my children to the most protected interior of Sheng to the Wu Manor with my Jade Dragon battalion all save for three guard which I use.

I prepare to enter the front lines of battle and have saved energy for meeting the enemy's at their gate. I arrive in the battle front in less than a week but it has been over three months since I had last layed eyes on He Zhen.

When I arrive at the battle front I am granted title General Xing and I devise many strategies to counter and counter enemy counters and a plan of brutal strike that lessens ally casualties while maximizing enemy fatalities. I plan in being a part of the rescue team for He Zhen myself and it takes another week for me to prepare.

On Huai's front lines all the plots are thickening as a new drug is brought forward and tested on He Zhen who suffers from being raped by the Eldest daughter of Huai's Emperor, Sio Ji. Sio Ji is confirmed to be at least two months pregnant and the drug accidentally developed makes it's consumers blindly sex hungry.

Sio Huang is the Emperor of Huai's oldest son and discoverer of the new drug they call happy happy times. He hears that Tuoba He Zhen's Empress has come to the front lines to fight for Tuoba He Zhen's freedom. Sio Huang has other plans for the Empress of Great Chu.
