Phoenix Dao

She walked behind him as he led her past several alleys until the got a huge door. He turned the knob and they walked into a garden. Not a garden, actually. It was a cave surrounded by flowers. She turned to look at him and he gestured for her to go in.

She treaded cautiously into the cave and the scene changed. It was eerily dark and quiet which made her feel chills all over. She wasn't scared of the dark but she was beginning to think if she was stupid to just blindly trust an eight year old.

"Is....anybody here? Hello. Can you hear me?"

"You're the right place, young lady." she heard and jumped in fright. She wasn't sure if it was because of the mysterious voice or because her eyes had adjusted to the darkness but when she looked around, she could see clearly. The cave was empty except for the sounds of running water.

It was eerily quiet that it scared even an assassin like her.

Soon, she found the owner of the voice. Her eyes squinted in disbelief. Was this magic? A grey robed man was seated on the water. She wasn't sure if he was seated exactly on the water. His clothes were dry. Was it even possible to sit on running water?

"Who are you?"

"Tang Xin. Welcome to the Phoenix Dao."

"Phoenix Dao? Maybe, I'm a little stupid. Why did I even believe a stranger just because he is a kid."

"It's good you are here."

"What do you want from me?"

"Don't worry. We won't hurt you."

"Bullshit. Why should I believe you?"

"After all, this is your home."

"My home?"

"On your wrist, there is a phoenix tattoo. Am I right?"

She swallowed dumbstruck "How did you know?"

"That is a sign you're from our Phoenix Dao."

"Hmph!! You think I'll believe you just because of a tattoo?"

"Why do you think you are still alive?"

"You...you know about me"

"The only reason, you're still alive is because of the phoenix necklace in your belonging."

"I don't have any phoenix necklace"

"You do. And it preserved your soul"
