1 Death of a 'Hero'

???,

??? POV,

In a room with a white floor, and walls of the same colour as well as the ceiling, a number of equipment could be seen lying around. Different chemical agents as well as different surgical tools, blood was splattered across the floor and some sections of the wall and amidst all this, a young man with golden eyes was meticulously working around with a scalpel. He had green hair, with a black tuft hanging over the front and his mouth was slightly open, to any onlooker. It would be apparent that he was at this moment slightly grinning.

In front of him lay a middle aged man with his eyes open, looking around the room erratically much like a crazed animal would as he foamed at the mouth. No voice escaped his mouth even if he did wish to scream out to the world and ask for help, for someone to save him from this man.

Vier Wolfgang, the man revered by most as a Hero, why wouldn't he be? He had created cures for a good number of diseases, the most significant of these being diabetes even if he refused to reveal the process for this method deeming it unnecessary for others to know.

They wouldn't however revere or even appreciate his efforts if they did in fact know this method.. or rather the reason why he had cured those diseases. Vier... had cured them out of curiosity, he had seen people panic over them and had thought about how they would react if they didn't have to worry about these, how they would use this time, he then released his findings to the public for monetary gain necessary for his numerous expedites rather than some altruistic goal.

As a result, the people ended up thinking he was a good man, not knowing that his experiments on the path of finding said cures often involved testing agents by placing them directly in live subjects as well as extracting them and then modifying them. He had also on several occasions actually used a live subject to see the reaction of some agents to a human body just out of curiosity.

As to how he had obtained these people? Well coming from a fairly wealthy family in the first place and having no real moral compass, it was easy to find individuals who were willing to carry out small-time crimes like kidnapping for him for a certain price. Vier had been this way since he was born, his parents were a detrimental factor to his goals and aspirations therefore, they were removed from the equation at a young age.

It was a simple gas accident and miraculously, the only son survived.

Vier slightly tilted his head scratching the back with a hand, dirtying his hair with the blood he had on said hand. "No more screams? The sedative doesn't seem to be working either. Wouldn't you be happier if you passed out?" He asked in great curiosity, leaning down next to the man's face. Yes, he had in fact sedated the man before starting what he was doing but about halfway through the man had woken up and started screaming incessantly.

Now though, the screams had died down.

"What would you choose?" Vier asked, waving around the scalpel he had used to tear open the man's chest while rubbing his chin with the other hand, "Would you rather have me continue.. or have your wife be put through this instead?" He asked with his golden eyes seemingly shining in anticipation, love overcomes all! For Love people die, for love people ruin their lives, he had seen that happen a lot.

This man had been living a happy married life with the first love of his life before Vier forcefully abducted him as a research subject, "Tell me.." He muttered, leaning uncomfortably close to his face, his test subject wouldn't die. Vier had made sure of that, contrary to popular belief a man could take a lot before he died...."Oh shit...." He muttered out, noticing the man's dead eyes.

Maybe opening and skinning his chest wasn't the best of ideas. Vier facepalmed and shook his head in slight disappointment, "I didn't account.... nevermind, I did. The wife it is." He announced merrily throwing away the bloody scalpel and started walking away, completely ignoring the blood on his white lab coat as well as hands.

The smell of flesh escaped into the building as he walked out of the lab taking off his coat and throwing it at an armed guard that was standing next to it, "You, throw that in the burner or something." Vier ordered with a playful smile as the security guard clicked his tongue, "You could try to control it at least, Sir."

"That would just be boorish of me." Vier replied, shaking his head as he licked his lips, a crazed glint in his eye; indeed, everything had to be investigated thoroughly. "I live for this stuff, you knew what you signed up for." He continued spinning around with his hands outheld as the guard averted his gaze, knowing full well just how much of a lunatic this 'hero' was.

Vier walked through the white corridor with his hands in the pockets of his coat, his previously cheery unhinged demeanour replaced by a more empty one as he walked at a hurried pace. In truth, he wasn't like that at all but had taken to acting like it as it provoked more intriguing reactions.

He stopped next to another room, looking inside through the glass pane right beside the metal doors which required keycards to open. "Seems to be going along nicely." Vier noted rubbing his chin in thought, inside the room itself, a woman was connected to life support which showed that she did still live, her stomach area though showed signs of being operated on, evident by small scars which were mostly left behind upon surgery.

Vier had no need to note down what he saw, he remembered it all regardless being one of the rare few to possess Eidetic memory. If only he had been born as a normal person rather than this, surely he would have contributed much 'more' to the world.

A few moments later, Vier once more started walking away coming up to a large door, he threw it open with his hands but just as he was about to proceed the sound of a gun being clocked made him freeze in place. "Sorry sir but I have my orders."

*Gunshot*

A gunshot rang out throwing the place on alert HOWEVER, contrary to what one would expect, Vier still stood with one hand in his pocket, "Maybe you would have succeeded if you didn't announce your presence." Vier noted staring at the barrel of the gun that would have killed him with an empty face.

At the last moment, just before the trigger was pulled, he had tilted his upper half backwards slightly avoiding the bullet before it was even shot. The would be assassin quickly moved his pistol trying to shoot him but in a display of unnatural strength, Vier covered his mouth with a free hand and slammed him into the ground knocking the air out of his lungs.

Vier crouched down next to him, licking his lips as the man gasped for air. "So... who was it?" He asked plainly, true he had no shortage of enemies, be it jealousy, hatred or just legality, there were people after his life. A number of spies had been sent to his home after all. Vier slightly smiled, his teeth sharp and somewhat pointy rather than human, "Quite stupid you know."

"Unimaginable but possible.... is what I was told beforehand, this whole compound is gonna get bombed 'Sir', you ain't escapin'." The assassin said with a grin making Vier's smile widen, "How intriguing, such effort for one man out of a total of 8 billion." He said rubbing his chin in thought, his hand still bloody from his previous 'activities'. Yes, there was no escaping this.

There was no way for a man to run away from carpet bombing and as much as he would like to accomplish something like those things shown in sci-fi books, Vier was but one man, limited by technology of the time and as such, unable to make something to avoid.

"Oh well, I wanted to know how it would feel to die anyway." Vier shrugged, sitting back. "Can you at least tell me your name, my assassin?"

"Samuel."

Just as those words left the mouth of the man on the ground, the entire place was enveloped by an explosion.

The media, as expected, had a field day with what had happened and people carried out protests in the name of Vier, the 'Hero', for all he had done had been blown away by the explosion. Maybe their reactions would be different if his actions were made public but unfortunately, such a thing could never come to pass anymore.
