150 Running Straight Into a Trap

'I just need to buy enough time for Kaito to rescue his mother.' Rem thought seriously, waiting patiently in one spot.

She didn't let her guard down.

Not even once.

After waiting for about half an hour, Rem sensed a few demons standing behind the large door.

'There are a total of three demons.' Rem counted.

'They don't seem that strong.'

If those demons didn't know what the room looked like, they wouldn't find anything suspicious since this room is covered with a barrier. The barrier prevents ordinary people from seeing what's inside the barrier. For ordinary people, the barrier acts sort of like an illusion.

'They must be lower ranked demons.' Rem concluded.

She listened to the demons quarreling behind the door.

...

"You open it." One of the demons said.

"No, you open it!" Another one argued.

"I don't want to get in trouble, so I'll let either one of you two open it." The third demon told the other two.

"No!" The other two demons said immediately.

They, too, were afraid.

"Fine, I'll offer each of you five living humans if one of you opens the door." The third demon offered.

"Tch. My life is more important than a few stinky humans!" The first demon growled.

The second demon crossed his arm, thinking about whether or not he should accept the offer.

"Then, whoever opens the door first shall receive ten live humans from me." The third demon said.

The moment the second demon heard that offer, he opened the door without any hesitation. After all, the number of humans a demon owns represents the amount of power one has in the demon realm.

...

*Creak...!

'They finally entered the room. That was unnecessarily long.' Rem thought, holding back the urge to sigh.

"You better fulfill your promise. I already opened the door!" The second demon pointed to the third demon.

"I will, I will. You don't have to worry because I'll give the products to you after work." The third demon reassured him.

"You better! Haha, too bad you missed out on that great deal." The second demon smirked at the first demon, feeling superior.

"Whatever. I'm not going to put my life on the line for those things." The first demons refuted.

"I bet you would have accepted the deal if I didn't open the door first!" The second demon argued back like a child.

"I would never―"

"Stop arguing. Look around the room for anything suspicious." The third demon ordered.

"Tch." The second demon walked to the other side of the room.

His mood isn't the best as of right now.

The three demons began to search the room.

After about ten minutes, they grouped up together.

"Nothing." The first demon said.

"Nope! There's nothing suspicious at all." The second demon said aloud casually.

"Well, I didn't find anything suspicious either. Let's leave quickly unless you guys wish for something worse than death." The third demon quickly said.

The three demons left in a hurry, leaving Rem alone in the room once again.

'Why did they leave so fast? It's only been a minute. Are they not allowed to enter this room...? Well, at least now I know that they don't know what Kaito's mother looks like. There shouldn't be any higher-ranked demons here, other than the low and middle-ranked ones.' Rem sighed in relief.

Wherever you go, important information is usually only known by those higher in the hierarchy. Almost every race has a system like this.

'For now, I'll try to recover as much of my mana as I can.' Rem thought, being more cautious.

...

Four hours passed, and Rem managed to recover another third of her mana. She has a total of about two-thirds of her mana recovered.

'This is boring... Did Kaito get his mom to safety yet? No... They're probably still in the city. If only I could teleport them to another city...! But no, I can't because my mana is too low and if I use strong magic, I'll attract all the demons here.' Rem huffed, plopping down on the bed.

Suddenly, she sensed two dangerous feeling auras nearby. She used her detection magic, only to see two demons with uniforms on, walking in her direction.

'I can't defeat those demons in my current state straight on!' Rem yelled in her head.

She has to think of a plan quickly because they're coming closer and closer to where Rem was.

'If I fight them head-on, it'll be the same as committing suicide...! I don't want to let anyone die or cause Arka City to be in a worse condition than it already is either. I'll have to lure them far away somehow. The big question is... What do I do after I lure them away from the city? I'm not sure I'll succeed in luring them away...!!!' Rem thought seriously as she slightly panicked inside.

'I hope this works.' Rem thought nervously, getting up from the bed.
