1 The Mistaken Omega

"Are you Miss Maridawn Silverfang?" A man who seems to be around in his early 20s enters the living room. When she turns and their eyes meet, the man immediately gives her a professional smile.

Maridawn curtly nods and she can see how the young alpha continues to stare at her, mesmerized by her beauty before bowing. She is used to these stares and didn't pay attention to them.

After all, the Silverfang pack are known to be the elites of the full package: beauty, brains, and of course power.

"I am Dimitri Greymund. I've come here to take you to the palace, Miss Silverfang."

"Greymund?" Maridawn arches her silver eyebrow. "Aren't your family one of the most elite wolf packs in Russia?"

At this Dimitri raises his chin up, his handsome face immediately brightens. "It's an honor that a member of the Silverfang knows about my family."

"Of course," Maridawn says, finding this obvious as she rolls her eyes. "Your pack not only strengthens the militia but you are also known for your skills in aviation. If my country goes against yours, we would be at a great disadvantage when war breaks loose."

Realizing she spoke too much, political international affairs and conflicts disinterested her and it wouldn't be a good impression on this handsome man to start a conversation about their…political affairs. Best to change the topic.

She then decides to check Dimitri out. Blonde hair and deep oceanic blue eyes are known traits of the Greymund pack. Perfectly shaped chiseled chin and skin as white as Snow White's. He catches her checking him out and then he smiles, revealing two cute dimples popping out on each cheek. Whether it was an invitation to flirt or not, Maridawn wouldn't dare. Not with her pride is in the line.

However, if the situation had been different, she wouldn't mind going out on a date with him.

But he's here for a different reason, especially coming from the palace. At that, she frowns. "It's a shame that an alpha with a great heritage and good looks end up becoming a servant of the palace."

At that, he chuckles, lightly. "My pack is known to choose whichever they want. The Greymund are free spirits, unchained from my country's restrictions," he says, cheerfully. "In my case, I would like to serve a rare omega like you."

Of course, he had to say it. The chatty mood she had earlier quickly shifted as she gives him a warning glare, "I guess you haven't heard and I apologize that you've come far from the palace to hear this: it's a mistake made by my doctor and I made sure his license has been revoked for not doing his job properly."

But Dimitri doesn't look surprised nor a slight change of his demeanor. "You still think you're an alpha, Miss Silverfang?" He asks nonchalantly yet professionally at the same time.

The palace has definitely trained this "alpha attendant" and he's really good at hiding his feelings, Maridawn thought to her utmost surprise.

Yet she continues to look down at him and continues, "Yes, because no wolf in my pack is born a beta or worse," she seethes at the word. "An omega."

"That is why it is considered a joke that the doctor claimed that my rank was a mistake. I've been an alpha since I received my results as a child!"

For werewolves, they will know if they're in the category of an alpha, beta, or an omega when at the age of six.

Since the Silverfang is in a different elite level, there is not once in history that they have a different rank other than an alpha or luna in their pack. So, without a doubt in Maridawn's mind, she is not an omega.

No, sir-ee.

Dimitri is probably a master of concealing as he smiles and slowly bows to her. "My apologies for offending you with my question. However, the fact that you're an omega still remains." At that, Maridawn continues to glare at him but he ignores it.

"Two weeks ago, you were all over the news when you had your first heat at the mall. If it weren't for your beta servants, the alpha-dominated crowd would have their way with you."

Maridawn wryly smiles. "Mr. Greymound—"

"Please, for the sake of our ranks, call me Dimitri."

"Right, Dimitri." How awkward it is to call an alpha from a prestigious pack to address his given name. "All the things you've heard are nothing but fake news. It isn't the first time I experienced being the center of attention."

"And why are you still here making a palace official wait, Maridawn?" a familiar bellowed voice echoes the room and Maridawn immediately stiffens, like a child who got caught stealing candy.

Dimitri notices her sudden change of demeanor but doesn't comment, well, he doesn't have the time as a man whom he recognizes immediately, enters the living room.

The man is none other than Griffith Silverfang, the current alpha head of the Silverfang pack, and Maridawn's father.

"Father, I was just about to explain to this young man that I'm still waiting for another test result and if the palace gives me another week—"

"I have enough of you, Maridawn," her father growls, showing the fangs that rarely show in front of his family. After all, Griffith values his name and his precious family.

Oddly enough, Maridawn doesn't have the same treatment compared to her siblings. And it has been like this for as long as she remembers.

"You were already a disgrace before this fiasco ever happened and worse, to think there's an omega in my family," he continues and every word he speaks is filled with spite.

She bites her lower lip as she lowers her head, conceding, knowing that fighting against her father won't bring anything good.

Dimitri merely observes the father and daughter argument and again does not comment on it.

"Now, hurry and leave, Maridawn."

As a bystander, he witnesses this as cruel and unfair for the youngest daughter.

He clears his throat, grabbing both father and daughter's attention as he says, "Good afternoon, Mr. Silverfang. If I may intervene, I would like to remind you that this might be the last time you'll ever see your daughter's face again."

Griffith just merely scowls, looking down on him. "And? How could that benefit you, fallen alpha?"

As long as Maridawn remembers, her father is known to admire proud alphas. And for Dimitri, an alpha, reducing himself into an alpha attendee is a disgrace in his eyes.

After all, alpha attendees serve omegas who are supposed to be the lowest ranks of the wolf clan.

Maridawn doesn't want any more of this as she grabs Dimitri's arm, completely startling him. "Let's just go, Dimitri."

There is no need for final words of farewell as the daughter passes by her father who turns his heel towards the direction of the kitchen and she has to…go to the palace.

To prepare herself for the inevitable as the King's Omega Concubine.
