A Long Ride To The Palace

"Now then, the ride will take three hours before we reach the Palace. If you have any questions, feel free to do so and if you wish to take a break, feel free to fill me in and I'll tell Kevin to stop the car."

"Perhaps during lunch hour, we could take that break."

"With pleasure, Miss Silverfang," Dimitri pauses for a moment. "Do you have any questions about the system?"

"I have no reason to learn about that, Dimitri," she says as she smirks. "Father wants me out so soon and we haven't seen the result from my trusted doctor yet."

He just stares at her, like she suddenly grows two heads. "Pardon my sudden foolish question but do you still think you're an alpha, Miss Silverfang?"

"Why not?" She gives a straight answer. "Isn't it strange that my results have always been an alpha when I was six years old and all of the sudden, I am now an omega?" She shakes her head while chuckling. "There must be a mistake."

"Mistaken categories can happen, Miss Silverfang. Sometimes a beta can be mistaken as an alpha due to the genetics or the behavior grown throughout their lives." He smiles.

"Actually," he continues as an afterthought. "Two of the concubines were also from an elite alpha pack like yours but to a lesser extent, of course."

She shakes her head again. "But still, the Silverfang family has never had a beta or omega in our ranks. Even during the era manifested with omegas."

She is a stubborn one, huh? Dimitri thinks as his chin rested on his palm while observing her. "Miss Silverfang, I may be presumptuous of me to daresay this question but what do you think of omegas?"

"The lowest rank among the wolves," she says as she rolls her eyes. "Even a child knows that. But if we dig deeper in detail, years ago, there were more omegas in the past than in the present. Their only purpose is to spread their legs for any alpha during their heat. They are the most promiscuous beings I've ever heard and my family line has never ever once mated an omega."

True, the Silverfang are known to be prejudiced against the omegas and since Maridawn was on the news two weeks ago, it took her father and her older brother to calm the presses before any more scandal that could tarnish their reputation.

Maybe that's why Griffith wanted Maridawn out this instant.

"What you've said is factual about omegas. However, why is it that omega babies are declining each year now?"

"It's still a phenomenon that even scientists couldn't pinpoint till now." She shrugs. "Conspiracy theorists also claim that the government years back injected wolves after birth to reduce the rampant of omegas and the consequence has already shown in the present."

"For someone who detests omegas, you seem to know a lot about these facts."

She lifts her head, glaring at him. Despite her glares and scowls, Dimitri couldn't stop thinking that any expression she shows won't tarnish her beauty.

"From the internet, duh. Even if we live from the outskirts, we don't live like the Amish way."

Apparently, something about her response makes Dimitri snort. He realized he laughed at her answer without thinking and he immediately composed himself.

"I see. I apologize for offending you earlier. But yes, the omegas started to decline as years passed by. The former king, the grandfather of the current in throne, created a traditional concubine system to make use of their purpose."

Because after all, royalties enjoy rare valuables and omegas are becoming like one in this day and age.

"So, why are you lecturing me about omegas, Dimitri?" She asks, raising an eyebrow as she crosses her legs.

He only smiles. "It's my obligation as an alpha attendant, Miss Silverfang. If you wish to survive in the palace, you must learn how it works living there."

"Survive?"

He only continues to smile, this time, rather forced than earlier. And Maridawn's suspicions immediately grew.

"I'll explain once we get there."

"Well, it's not bad staying for a week," she scoffs, playing with her long silvery-blonde hair. "Afterwards, I'll shove my certificate to you and to the royal officials that I'm no King's concubine but rather an alpha daughter of an elite pack."

There's no way to argue with her anymore, he thought to himself.

"By the way, I haven't learned much about the concubine system from my studies," she says. "But I still don't understand why alphas are hired to be their attendants when the king can do it himself?"

"Ah, the thing about the current king is, unlike the previous predecessors, he established this system so that when an omega is in heat while the king is busy with his duties, it is the job of the alpha attendant to satisfy their assigned omega."

"Really?" This catches Maridawn's attention. "So, it is highly likely we will sleep together one of these days?"

A part of her regretted why she sounded so…so excited at the thought of sleeping with Dimitri.

Yet, she felt attracted to an alpha with a face like his. If only the situation had been so different.

"Ah, you misunderstand me, Miss Silverfang," he gives her a professional smile again. "My job is to satisfy you with your needs through other methods apart from intercourse." He grins.

"Think of me like a…" he thought for a moment. "Like a live dildo whenever you're in heat."

"A-and if you do make love to me?"

"It will be off with my head, like the queen of heart did from Alice in Wonderland," he answers while giving her a wry smile.

"What an atrocity!" She gasps. "To think the king made prideful alphas as sex tools for omegas!"

"And that's where you're wrong, Miss Silverfang," he grins. "In fact, the real reason why we're not against this is because it gives us the freedom to even work in the palace. Even those alphas from the weaker pack find more opportunity in serving under the king."

"Then that loses the purpose of being an alpha."

Ah, such a conservative mindset. Perhaps the Silverfang are still yearning for old traditions to come back, Dimitri thinks.

"Times have changed, Miss Silverfang. You'll see once we've reached the palace."
