For the second time I will take a chapter to respond to an interesting comment from a reader. He may not be the only one to detect the inconsistency so I prefer to make the answer more visible by answering here. I would take this opportunity to ask your opinion on the future companions of The Old Princes and this will compensate you a little for the first day without a chapter since the beginning of this story..

Comment of ouragan_ :

there is a chronological inconsistency or at least things are going differently in this AU. The Queen has evalued the MC's age between 50 and 60 from her skeleton and says she is the only woman to have given birth in this decade. so this makes the MC the same age as Arya, with the latter being 103 at the end of the Legacy. We are therefore about 40/50 years before the history of the canon (in 7950/7960). However, Brom succeeded to steal the egg of Saphira's egg in 7985 by Brom. In addition, Morzan must therefore still be alive in this timeline (and possibly even other perjurers).

Answer :

I see that there are some who are very connoisseurs of Eragon's lore, this forces me to reveal a little more :p.

I actually wanted to change the story a bit because faithfully repeating each step of the story with a few small variations would be a bit boring and the only potential enemies of Eldar would then be shadows, rasacs and Galbatorix.

Let's be honest with Eldar's potential and minimal training, it won't take long for him to completely outclass the Rasacs like Eragon does fairly quickly. He will have a lot more time to form and a much more impressive potential because I don't want the final fight with Galbatorix to be so pitiful (although it puts a lot of pressure on me to make a good final confrontation). I have no intention of putting Durza on the same level as Eldar. So only Galbatorix would be left to face.

I always thought that the eldunari heavily influenced the events so that the forsworn perished just as they influenced the events so that the dragon eggs were freed from Galbatorix because I don't see how dragon riders who managed to kill so many others during the war end up perishing against mere mortals later.

However in our story they are perhaps more focused on the hope that Eldar and Egan represent than on Brom and the resistance which would have allowed certain perjurers to survive and perhaps they are hidden by order of Galbatorix for the future surprise offensives or to help him in his search for magic and the ancient language. Maybe they are looking for wild dragons who left Alagaësia to repopulate the dragons and create new dragon riders under Galbatorix, maybe they are training for the next war with the elves!

In short, as you can see, there are many possibilities and trying to choose a path among all the possibilities is a real headache

Back to Arya, I've been thinking for a long time about the romantic interests of our two protagonists and even if the obvious answer is Saphira and Arya, I'm still hesitant and not sure that's the best choice. Saphira is fine but removing the Eragon/Arya relationship takes a lot out of Eragon's story and will make it harder for me when he joins the story.

When in doubt, I decided to shorten Arya's term of service with the Varden (in the original story, she spent 70 years in the service of the Varden of which 20 years as an egg guardian). She will have what she desires when she helps form Eldar and thereby actively participates in the possibility of overthrowing Galbatorix. Plus the egg will stay safe in a way I don't count on spoiling you ^^.

I have some ideas that could be used in an Arya / Eldar relationship without them necessarily ending up together so I remain undecided for these two.

I wish, however, that Eldar's companion wasn't just a cheerleader who only serves to encourage him from afar. Eldar's interests in the arts of war are obvious and I think he will need someone with that similar passion so he can relate to her and they can fight together.
