6 Amidst the Leap

______

Sleeping was quite an odd concept that I didn't really understand.

Since I didn't sleep.

Still, I imitated the act. Closing my eyes, I would just lay there for hours at a time until it was morning.

Sometimes, June would bring me to roam the woods around the house and we'd just walk around.

It was here I'd meet Dice. He was somewhere around ten years old, so he looked near my age. But I didn't know how old I was, so I couldn't really tell whether he was near my age or not. He was a kid with white hair and his eyes had a silver glow to them. He would usually hang around the woods with his sister. She was a tall lady who permanently wore a calm smile. Similar to him, her hair was white, but her eyes were bright yellow.

"Hey! My name's Dice! What's yours?"

"Kali, my name is Kali."

"Woaaah, why are your eyes like that?

"It's because I can see really well. How about you? Why are they silver?"

"My eyesight is realllly bad! My eyes are silver because I ate a rock when I was a toddler."

"What rock was it?"

"My sister says it was a magic rock that fell from a star."

"Really?"

"Yeah!"

June yawned, "Man these kids really are a handful. They're both like five year olds."

Dice's sister agreed, "Yeah, they are. But that does leave one question. Where the hell did you find this kid?"

"Around the woods."

"Are you screwing with me?"

"Hey you found one near a crater, a forest really shouldn't be that unbelievable."

"Alright. That's true. Tell me more."

"It was right after I fought that blue lightning bomb man. You really couldn't call it a fight. I just exchanged a few blows and ran."

"Yeah… 'ran'."

"Well, I guuesss I didn't run. I just knocked him really far away."

"Ahhh. Wanna spar later?"

"No. You're scary and I'm not in the mood. Tomorrow."

"Fine." Dice's sister smirked.

I ended up learning a lot about Dice, his sister found him near a crater a myriad of years ago and they'd been taking care of him since.

"Hey Kali what's your favorite color?"

"Bright green."

"Mine is yellow. Why's your favorite color green?"

"I don't know. Why do you like yellow?"

"It's the color of my sister's eyes, so whenever I see yellow, I'm reminded of her." He gave me his reasoning and I thought it made a lot of sense.

Pondering his words, I had a sudden realization, "Oh. I think I know why I like green now. It reminds me of the forest."

"That's nice. Hey Kali, are we- do you wanna be friends?"

"Sure."

Then we were friends.

"Whoa, you're like my first friend!"

"You're my first friend too."

He would eventually be the reason why I gained a lot of my habits.

After a while, it was time for me and June to go home.

"It's time for us to leave Kali. Tell Dice goodbye."

"Okay!" I had this odd feeling in my chest, but I obliged.

"Bye Dice. Have a good day."

"You too! Bye Kali. Have a good day!"

Then we departed. The feeling I had got a little stronger.

"So how was your day Kali?"

"It was fun."

"That's nice to know."

"June." I paused, "What's this feeling?"

"What do you mean?"

"When it was time to leave, I had this weird feeling, and I don't know why."

"Maybe you didn't want to leave?"

"Could you explain?

"Hmmm, you like hanging out with Dice, so when it's time to leave, you feel sad."

"..." I thought about it, "I think you're right June."

She sorta chuckled, "So now that you know what it is, what do you think about it."

"I don't wanna feel this way. Maybe."

"So would you have rather not met Dice? If you hadn't, you wouldn't be sad"

"No. I would still rather have met Dice."

"Alright then. I guess that's all that matters."

"... Hey June."

"Yeah?"

"Who would win in a fight between you and Dice's sister?" Her expression was one of disbelief.

"Me."

"Really?"

Frowning, she turned her head at me, "Are you doubting me huh?! You dare?"

"Yeah."

She sighed, "Well that's valid. I couldn't tell you who'd actually win."

She smiled, "But it'd totally be me."
