1 Prologue

How long has it been since we last talked? Years? A decade? Maybe something in between? You may not remember me, but I remember every moment we spent together. We first met on a day when the sky was dark, and snow gingerly fell from the heavens.

You were a young boy. From the looks of it, you were probably just walking back home from school. You were dressed warmly and had a bag resting on your shoulders. You could have walked home, but instead, you approached me; a young girl trembling under the winter sky. I tried to turn you away, for simply being with me would bring you misfortune beyond anything you could comprehend at your age. Despite my warnings, you looked upon me with empty yet sympathetic eyes; eyes that told a silent and lonely story filled with melancholy. You offered me a scarf out of concern for my wellbeing. All I could do was respond with a smile. From your darkened expression, your eyes faintly lit up. From there, I promised myself I would regain the light in your eyes.

That was when our friendship first bloomed.

Over time, I could sense that I was able to regain your light little by little. We played together, shared our dreams together, and watched the snow fall together. It was then I saw you truly smile for the first time. My heart swelled from seeing you happy. It was then I began to see humans in a different light.

That is when I fell for you.

"I wanted to stay like this, perhaps forever. But fate appeared to have other plans for me. My mother came to retrieve me because I was away for too long. I fought back, knowing I already knew where I wanted to belong. I begged. I bargained. I threatened. I fought back. Nothing would change my mother's mind.

You ran away, and I can understand. You were young and powerless to do anything against my mother. After mocking your fear and branding humanity as woeful beings, my mother tried to warp my feelings. However, like a prince, you came back crying to me, ready to fight for me. As much as you tried, it would not have changed the outcome. You were then mortally wounded.

That is when the Demon of Envy arrived.

Envy took a liking to our relationship and intervened, affiliating itself with us. Mother then left, enraged by the events that had unfolded. Envy took notice of your well-being. Envy explained that my presence was the reason for your suffering and that I have exposed you to my world. But I didn't want to leave you. I couldn't. The times we spent together flashed through my mind again and again. Despite how much pain and humiliation you went through for me, you still came back to me. I felt that if I were to leave you, the light I once recovered from your eyes would disappear once again. All I could do now was embrace you and pray for a miracle, wishing that everything would turn out alright.

That is when my powers came into being.

Envy noticed that a new strength blossomed, and I was able to heal your mortal wounds. Determined to save you from your fate, I also took the memories of our time together, leaving behind my first and final gift to you: a kiss.

That is when you forgot.

I then left you behind without your memories of our time together and departed with Envy, who took me under its care. Despite how hard I tried, I could not bear the thought of not seeing you anymore. To my surprise, even though you had forgotten me, your heart had not. When I learned of this, I could not help but cry. So now—from afar—I will watch you grow into a man, patiently waiting for you. I never believed that destiny or fate provided fortunate things for my kind, but maybe I should try believing that. I hope that one day we will meet again and be together.

That is my wish, my prince.
