30 Chapter 30: Shifting Balances (3)

Sitting in a white room with a large black mirror next to the wall, Cale placed his hands on the table in front of him.

As he calmly waited for someone to arrive, he knew they were watching him behind the black mirror. He had opened his senses to the fullest.

Three people were standing behind the mirror. He could feel their energy. One of them was Fredrich Wild, the agent who had come to get him.

"He looks so calm," he heard a woman's voice. The woman's voice was thoughtful.

"It's also suspicious that he's doing so well when the footage shows him almost dying," said another man.

"His friends gave him a potion," Fredrich said expressionlessly.

"We are talking about chaos energy Fredrich! If this was solved with a simple potion, more than half the world would not have been destroyed" the man said angrily.

"Calm down, we don't know what it is yet" the woman calmed him down and he felt Fredrich leave the room.

When the door opened, Cale saw that Fredrich had left to come here. Fredrich came in wearing a black suit and sat down opposite him.

Cale looked at the blue status window in front of him as Fredrich looked at him expressionlessly.

---------------------------------------------------------

He was pleased to find that in addition to his increased stats, the ability Heatchliff had given him was also quite useful.

When he activated the ability, his mind was drawn into the mind of Fredrich sitting opposite him. As the level of the ability was low, he could not stay for long.

When it was over, which took only a few minutes, Cale saw journalists outside the building, flocking to the area to ask questions.

The headlines and social media were full of stories about what had happened. Worse, everyone was talking about how he was unaffected by the chaos energy. But there was still a chance to extricate himself from the situation.

Fredrich opened the tablet in front of him, adjusted his glasses and looked at it.

"Hello again, Mr. Rayne. My name is Fredrich Wild, I am the administrative agent and the person responsible for questioning you. Do you know why you are here?"

He acknowledged him with a nod.

"I believe you are referring to the unfortunate incident I had a few hours ago."

"Alright then, let's start the interrogation," he said, looking at Cale over his glasses.

"But before that, I want to warn you. My ability allows me to recognize lies. If you lie, you will be charged with perjury. So I suggest you remain silent on questions you don't want to answer."

"Got it."

"Please state your name."

"Cale Rayne."

"When were you born?"

"I was born on November 17, 2746."

"According to the data, your talent ranking is E grade."

"Yes."

"But your rank was recorded as G in the player center."

"My rank was later re-measured and recorded as E."

Cale meekly answered Fredrich's question, while Fredrich used his gift to check whether he was telling the truth.

Cale was cooperating with him for now. If he didn't answer him and remained silent, he would draw more attention to himself and reveal that he was using chaos energy.

If the Union and the elite families discovered him while they were trying to find ways to avoid being affected by chaos energy, he would end up with a life of experimentation, as he had with the Black King.

"Is it true that you are fighting terrorists who use chaos energy?"

With his question, Cale realized that the real interrogation began now. Any answer he gave now would be a blend of truth and lies to confuse them.

"Correct."

"How did you do that?"

"My ability is based on the law of push and pull. That's how I was able to protect myself and fight him."

"It's clear from the footage that you're bleeding a lot," he said, the doubt in his voice showing that he didn't believe him.

"I'm still not good at my skill. That's why I couldn't dodge some of his attacks, unfortunately, but he wasn't using his chaos energy all the time."

"Can you show me your ability?" Cale took a deep breath and activated it. "I can't see any difference," he said and frowned.

"Try attacking," Fredrich's eyebrows rose.

When he raised his hand and attacked him with a fire spell, he saw the fire stop in front of him and dissipate before it touched Cale.

"I see what you mean now," he said in a bewildered voice. He looked at Cale for a while as if analyzing him.

"What do you have to say about the fact that some witnesses saw you attracting chaos energy?"

Cale knew that there was no video of him leaving and summoning the chaos energy to him, except for the one where he fought the man with the scarred face. Because all the people he felt at that time were unconscious or too dazed to focus. But some people had seen Cale in that state.

"Chaos energy is a force that drives people mad, and if I had drawn it to me in my injured state, it would have been an invitation to my death. Even though I have healed thanks to the potions my friends gave me, I still have many wounds on my body," he said, grabbing the hem of the sweatshirt and lifting it up, showing the healing wounds on his chest.

Cale was taking advantage of the fact that they had nothing but a few video footage and the inconsistent testimony of confused witnesses and using it to his advantage, and he could see from Fredrich's softer look that he was succeeding. It could have been a tactic, of course, but for now his priority was to get out of here in a way they couldn't blame him for.

"Thank you Mr. Rayne, please follow me," he said as he stood up, opened the door and walked out.

"Where are we going?"

Fredrich answered him with his back to Cale.

"We are going to test your rank and ability."

He asked, opening his eyes slightly.

"Do I have the right to refuse?"

When Fredrich arrived in front of a large metal door, he shook his head, swiped his card, opened the door and gestured for him to enter.

"No, your condition precludes your right to refuse. Oh, by the way, you will also have a blood test."

Cale entered, his face darkening at his explanation. He entered a room with strange equipment and found several people waiting for him.

He brought him in front of a diaphanous crystal.

"Please put your hand on the sphere," Cale took a deep breath and put his hand on the sphere.

"Okay, you can raise your hand."

Fredrich frowned and looked at the tablet in his hand as Cale stared indifferently at the sphere in front of him. The confusion on his face increased with each passing second.

"Strange... Please put your hand back on the sphere."

Cale clicked his tongue inwardly as he did as he was told. The sphere in front of him was the 'Talent Evaluation Sphere'.

It was a dwarven artifact that tested an individual's ability. Although relations with other races were not good, trade between the races continued, as many resources were needed to develop the artifacts.

The talent sphere was an artifact that determined the limits of an individual's ability. In addition to analyzing the entire structure of the body, the sphere could measure the mana meridians and the size of the mana pool and determine the level of mana present in the individual. The same was true for aura and demonic energy. It determined the density of the blood used by vampires when they used their powers and the frequency of the voices of mermaids when they used their powers.

Overall, the test was accurate with a very small margin of error.

So far.

The reason why Cale's ability could not be measured was that when the seal was broken one and a half years ago, the chaos energy broke all his walls. These walls in his body to protect people were broken with each rank advancement, but Cale no longer had such walls. His ability was limitless.

That's why the talent-determining sphere could not determine its boundaries. Thinking that the sphere was faulty, Fredrich spoke to the officials waiting there and asked for a new one to be brought.

When the new sphere arrived, Fredrich asked him to put his hand on it again. Cale put his hand on the globe again. Again the sphere did not work and this time Fredrich put his hand on it.

When the bronze color appeared, indicating that he was a level S hunter, he reached for the earpiece in his ear.

"Sir, we're facing a problem. The talent evaluation sphere isn't working on the hunter we're testing."

"..."

"Yes, I tried it myself, sir. It worked fine for me, but it didn't work for Mr. Rayne, even though we changed the sphere."

"..."

"I understand, yes."

Although Cale didn't eavesdrop on Fredrich, who was obviously talking to someone high up, he understood the main point. They were going to bring another sphere because they couldn't measure its limit.

When a man in a suit like Fredrich walked in with the new sphere, everyone in the room watched nervously as the third sphere was put in place.

"Please put your hand back on," Cale sighed and put his hand back in. The third time the same thing happened, everyone in the room looked at him strangely.

When everyone in the room put their hand on the sphere to try it out, they saw from the colors the sphere changed that the newcomer was a D ranked man and the others were E ranked hunters.

"Are you... What are you?" Fredrich asked in a puzzled voice, his face lacking its initial dignity.
