The Mega Family: Part 1: Jocaziah

Family can mean many things to different people and culture's, but I think most would agree that the defining feature of any true family, is a unique bond that unites a group of individuals together no matter what. Culture, heritage, and even blood are all ultimately of secondary importance to that key bond.

Perhaps no group better demonstrates this than the Mega Family, a collection of creatures who weren't even of the same species as one another. (In fact one of them wasn't even from the same planet) but who nevertheless established a strong connection that would see them through many battles and trying times ahead.

The Mega Family were among the most prominent heroes of the 21st century, but sadly to the general public, until recently, they were looked on as nothing more than an urban legend, like the Loch Ness Monster. (To be fair the true story behind the Loch Ness Monster is also not quite what I'd wager any of you would expect either.)

Wherever this ragtag group of dinosaurs and robots and shark women may be now, two things to be sure of are that they will be fighting the good fight against the forces of darkness, and that they will be together.

The Mega Family consisted of a Tyrannosaurus named Jocaziah, a shark woman named Charcaria, a gigantic cybernetic creature named Kosarak, and finally a large amphibian, humanoid named Daharian. All naturally came from very different backgrounds, though all at least were created by magic which would ultimately be what brought them together. Before we examine their history as a family however, it is important that we explore who or what they were before as well.

In this chapter we will explore the life and history of Jocaziah, who would also be known as the king of beasts. Worshipped as a god by some, viewed as a monster by others. All who knew of him would agree at least, that even by the standards of the Tyrannosaurs, the most dangerous predators ever to walk the earth, Jocaziah was a truly formidable creature.

Jocaziah's heritage did not belong to the great reptiles from 66 million years ago however. Instead he was the creation of a powerful demon known as Kelinja in the Highlands of Scotland in the early 21st century.

Scotland has long been a hotspot for supernatural creatures. It all began when the Roman emperor Trajan and his successor Hadrian waged a war against the paranormal. Whilst Trajan was happy for supernatural creatures to live in Rome, provided they lived in peace, Hadrian was more draconian in his hatred for the paranormal, and this eventually led to demons, vampires and other supernatural creatures fleeing to Scotland, one of the few places that had not been conquered by the Romans.

Over the centuries there were many attempts to try and contain the paranormal population of Scotland, by both the locals and even outsiders, particularly after Rome fell. The most successful would prove to be the organisation known as Scathach, founded by Saint Columba and named after his mentor, the famous Scottish warrior woman. Scathach.

This organisation endured until the beginning of the 21st century. Whilst it may have done more in the long run to protect Scotland (and sometimes the world at large.) Arguably the largest attempt to contain the supernatural was by King James the sixth of Scotland.

Whilst many historians have attempted to reassess the legacy of what was once known as the "wisest fool in all of Christendom." There can be no denying that when it came to magic and the supernatural, James was a wicked tyrant during the early years of his rule, who both brutalised and exploited many innocent witches and warlocks. He first became aware of the danger of the supernatural when he visited Denmark at a young age and had a near lethal encounter with a coven of witches. James had actually known about the supernatural before, but hadn't taken it seriously until his encounter with the witches. Like all members of the Royal family, he was aware of the reach of the vandals since he was a child. These clawed soul devouring demons had ruled over Europe from behind the scenes for centuries, and like all other royals James in his early years was happy to cow tow to them. (In truth like most Royals he had never even met them.) He also had been shielded from the supernatural horrors of Scotland due to his wealth. The Danish witches however had attacked James in the hopes of making him their undead puppet who they could use to gain access to the magical resources of Scotland.

Horrified at how close the witches had come to infiltrating the Royal Family, James vowed to eliminate the threat of the paranormal, and even struck back at the vandals. He operated in secret from the soul devourers however knowing full well that he would never survive a head on confrontation. Despite his hatred and fear of the supernatural, James still hoped to make use of the black arts themselves to fight creatures such as demons and vampires. He gathered many witches from all over Europe using his resources and forced them to construct an underground prison where he could experiment on the supernatural in the hopes of finding a cure or weaknesses in certain breeds of demons and creatures.

In some ways James does deserve respect for being willing to fight against the demons ruling Europe from behind the scenes. Very few European monarchs were either brave or at least aware enough of what was going on to challenge the vandals during their rule, though it should be noted that the vandals were nearing the end of their rule over Europe at that point. Had James attempted this during their heyday, he would not have lasted long. Still James was at least able to use the monsters resources against them to a greater extent than any ruler before and his experiments did prove influential in the study of demons in certain areas. Furthermore after the success of his prison, James became more openly antagonistic to the vandals, to the extent that he was the first monarch in centuries to confirm the existence of the supernatural to the public. He even published a book on Demonologie. Since they had come to power, the vandals had suppressed knowledge of the supernatural, causing the public to view vampires, demons, witches, ghosts monsters and beasts as nothing more than myths and legends. Sadly James attempts to expose the truth ultimately did not have the impact he desired and instead led to him being seen as a fool by his own subjects. It would not be until the 22nd century that the vandals lie would finally be exposed.

However it is important not to ever diminish the horrors James carried out against the witches he used in his war. Hundreds of innocent women were tortured to death on his orders. In fact James himself personally supervised the torture. He wanted to make sure that his guards knew the exact ways to hurt the witches. Only a very few of James victims were actually dangerous witches. In fact ironically many of his victims were already enemies of the vandals and had used their powers for good. James however didn't care, he believed that magic corrupted all eventually. In fact his fanaticism was so great that many hunters ended up in his cells, with James and his agents believing them to be witches simply due to their knowledge of the black arts.

After he became James the 1st of England and focused more of his efforts in the larger country, and trying to unify Scotland and England. The king largely stopped his research on the supernatural. Feeling that it had undermined his credibility with the public, and perhaps even feeling regret for some of his past sins. Both Scotland and his prison were essentially abandoned by James. The hundreds of demons and creatures that had been captured however were still left to rot in his prison. The magics that had constructed the prison were so powerful, it remained impenetrable, but no one was brave enough to venture there again after James abandoned it.

According to some rumors, one of the witches who had helped construct the prison under duress later tracked James down in his final years and not only killed him, but locked his spirit in one of the remaining empty cells where it remains trapped to this day. Whilst many have dismissed this as simply propaganda on the part of the witches, over the years there has emerged some compelling evidence that his death was at least caused by black magic.

The prison meanwhile remained abandoned until the early 21st century before it was finally tampered with by the Blue Devil in the year 2002. The ancient vampire king had recently been revived by his followers, despite attempts by the last branches of Scathach to stop them.

The final branch, situated near Aviemore, battled the Blue Devil, slowly destroying his forces until in desperation the vampire king released several creatures from the prison, which was also situated beneath Aviemore. (Thanks to the nearby Tulloch Moor the entire region was a particular hotspot for supernatural creatures, hence why King James had built his prison there and why both Scathach and the Blue Devil had later built their bases in the area too. )

Among the inmates the Blue Devil released included Kelinja, the most powerful and evil demon that King James had ever fought (though even then it was actually the witches he had enslaved who fought and defeated the creature.) Kelinja possessed incredible mental and magical powers to such an extent that he could create illusions that provided he kept focusing for hours would permanently become real. He could using this power create life forms, even reshape landscapes using just his mind. Ironically the demon had gained this power through a simple mistake. Back in his own dimension, Kelinja was actually a low level demon, but when teleporting himself to our world (where he hoped he could be a wolf among the sheep.) Something went wrong. It was most likely due to the nature of Scotland, where demonic and magical anomalies are more common due to the disproportionate number of supernatural creatures. No two anomalies are ever the same however, in much the same way as no two humans or demons are exactly the same.

In Kelinja's case the anomaly led to him not just entering our world, but fusing with its very fabric, giving him power over both its elements and magics to make his illusions a reality, though he could only create a set number of illusions at a time, as doing so left him drained and weak for short periods. Still Kelinja was nevertheless able to build up an army of monsters from his own imagination who threatened to overtake Scotland. James' witches however were able to defeat him, by using magic from Kelinja's home dimension to create the cell that imprisoned him. To the magic of that dimension he was still nothing more than a low level run of the mill demon.

The Blue Devil had no idea of the true power of Kelinja when he unleashed him, but even then he was not scared. He felt the demon would not last long against his enemies due to its lack of its experience with the modern world and ultimately he was right, but he hoped it would distract them for long enough for the vampire king to put his main plans into action, which again it did.

In the intervening centuries, a theme park had been built above King James prison, called Santa Claus Land. First established in the 1970s. Santa Claus Land was built during the heyday of Aviemore's popularity as the tourist centre of the Highlands. Whilst the idea of a place that celebrated Christmas day all year round might have sounded like a nice novelty at first, in time other gimmicks were added to keep the place fresh, including a Dinosaur Safari.

Often regarded as the highlight of the park, the Safari was essentially a standard haunted house attraction where visitors were taken through a small, dark area with pictures of Dinosaurs on the wall and roaring sound effects.

Kelinja meanwhile was entranced by the ride and the park in general and decided to make it the basis of his new kingdom. He transformed all of the Dinosaurs on the wall into living breathing Dinosaurs, though as Kelinja did not know anything about the great reptiles, he brought them to life exactly as they were in the drawings, meaning they weren't actually like any real Dinosaurs that had ever existed.

The Triceratops was a flesh eater as the drawing on the wall had blood dripping from the plant eating Dinosaurs jaws, simply for dramatic effect. The Spinosaurus meanwhile was also completely unrecgonizable. At that point very little was known about this species to be fair, with this Dinosaur species in particular continued to perplex experts for decades to come.

The Tyrannosaurus itself meanwhile, as always was the star attraction and wasn't quite as inaccurately drawn as the others. The artist got most of the basic details right, though its posture was somewhat more upright than those of actual Tyrannosaurs and it was also shown to be considerably bigger in comparison to the other Dinosaurs than even the real life Tyrannosaurs were. Consequently the Tyrannosaur created from the drawing grew to 70 feet long and weighed in at 25 tons.

The Dinosaurs, along with the other creatures Kelinja created rampaged their way through the amusement park, but they were stopped from devastating Aviemore by a team of Scathach agents which included the Blue Devil's arch enemies, Lam, a renegade Zeti Reticulan who had mastered the black arts, Carlene, a reformed vampire from 1960s London, and fledgling vampire hunter Lindsey Kate McIntosh.

Together they were able to defeat Kelinja and seal him back in his prison. Unfortunately however his creations did not all fade. The new landscapes he had created around and from the park returned to normal, such as turning its Antarctic section, a small harmless play area with a frozen stick at the centre, into a real frozen wasteland inhabited by Yetis! The life forms however had been stabilized to the point where they were now living, breathing, independent creatures after he was sealed back in his prison. Sadly the Tyrannosaurus had to be put down by Lindsey herself when it was about to rampage its way through Aviemore. Ironically Lindsey had always had a fascination with Dinosaurs and was utterly horrified at having to slay one, but sadly she had no choice.

The rest of the Dinosaurs and creatures meanwhile were taken to Loch Ness were they were imprisoned. Loch Ness was home to a magical Plesiosaurus that we have come to know as Nessie, though it has had many names.

The Plesiosaurus had been imprisoned in Loch Ness millennia ago by the gods themselves. When the gods, in reality powerful beings from another universe and the Dragons rebuilt the earth after the renegade god Set's rampage. They warred over disagreements on how to guide humanity, with the gods winning in the west and the Dragons in the east, though both eventually left the earth before recorded history began, as both came to agree that their presence had damaged humanity's development.

Dragons are simply Dinosaurs that through exposure to magic have been turned into magical creatures, gaining human like intelligence along the way. The first Dragons are believed to have been created before Set visited the earth, by wizards and witches who revived several of the ancient reptiles through magic and then transformed them.

This magical Plesiosaurus naturally fought on the side of the Dragons, but rather than be executed, due to her prior work in helping to defeat Set, the gods simply imprisoned her in a pocket dimension, (alongside her most loyal minions) that they created at the bottom of Loch Ness. The Plesiosaur could leave the pocket dimension and swim around the lake and even walk around the area outside it, but no more than there. Sadly she was not released when the gods left the earth, and as the centuries rolled on legends soon developed around a monster living in Loch Ness.

Despite her imprisonment, Nessie and her minions were still able to help humanity, with the Plesiosaurus guiding many hunters over the centuries, including the legendary St Columba. Whilst she became somewhat more jaded as time went on, she nevertheless agreed to help Lam, her old friend and kept the creatures in a state of suspended animation within her pocket dimension until she could find a new home for them, a world within a world.

After Kelinja's defeat, the ruins of Santa Claus land meanwhile had simply been abandoned. The locals were too scared to go near it, and Scathach had bigger fish to fry.

A few traces of Kelinja's magic had remained however, which soon drew in numerous other demons and creatures hoping to make use of them. Their experiments soon led to other anomalies spreading their way across the area which drew in the attention of Carlene, Lindsey and Lam.

Whilst searching the ruins of the park, Lindsey discovered something even more incredible in the ruins of the old Dinosaur Safari ride. A Tyrannosaurus egg. The first Tyrannosaur had been a female (as depicted in the original ride where it was drawn guarding an egg from two Raptors.)

The egg had been trapped in a state between life and death ever since Kelinja's imprisonment. It was stable enough to be made solid, but as it hadn't been born yet, as there was simply no life in the egg, yet its magical constitution allowed it to remain stable. One of the demons however after stealing it from Lindsey attempted to bring the beast to life using magic. Whilst he was ultimately successful, the second Tyrannosaur, a male was still an infant and so the demon attempted to accelerate its growth, causing it to reach a size of 10 feet long within a day. Fortunately Lindsey rescued the Tyrannosaur before the demon could finish the spell, or place the young Dinosaur under its control. She subsequently looked after the Tyrannosaur during its formative years. In a way she was just living out her childhood dream of having a Dinosaur as a pet, but at the same time Lindsey was also perhaps hoping to make amends for what she had done to its mother. Ironically she became the closest thing the Dinosaur would have to a parent, with the creature even when it was fully grown demonstrating a loyalty and affection Lindsey it never did to any other human.

Unlike Kelinja's other Dinosaurs who were kept in Loch Ness, the young Tyrannosaur instead came to live beneath the chalet where Lindsey, Carlene and Lam all lived together, which was located in the small village of Carrbridge near Aviemore. Whilst it may have been part of the local Fairwinds resort, their Chalet was constructed by the magic of Scathach itself, and was bigger on the inside than the outside. The living room was not only six times the size of the outside alone, but the hall behind contained five large rooms and a downstairs leading to a huge training area which the vampire and Zeta Reticulan were able to convert into a home for the Tyrannosaurus. Whilst Lindsey may have been closest to the Tyrannosaurus, it was actually Lam who came up with its name. Jocaziah, the word for king in his language, though it can also mean majestic and powerful.

Jocaziah subsequently helped Lindsey deal with other threats to the Highlands during his first year with her. Most notably he helped her take on the legendary Grey Man of the Cairngorns, also known as Am Fear Liath Mor. This infamous creature was actually the spirit of a Neanderthal man. These creatures evolved from the same ancestors as human beings and were our closest relatives. In fact it is believed that they even interbred with early man, to the extent where the majority if not all modern humans possess Neanderthal DNA in any regions the Neanderthals lived. Sadly however they were not our friends. They were in fact our superiors in every way. Physically one Neanderthal was strong enough to slaughter dozens of humans in a fight and they were significantly more durable too. An average Neanderthals bones was up to 6 times stronger than that of the average person, and they were covered in thick, long hair which helped to further protect them. The Neanderthals teeth were on average also longer and stronger than a human, with their bites being over twice that of a modern day Tiger.

The Neanderthals were also despite their greater size, standing on average 7 foot tall and weighing over 400 pounds, considerably faster and possibly even more intelligent than early man too. They certainly developed more advanced weaponry and skilled techniques than homo sapians did at that point. Indeed they didn't even need to hunt us, as they wiped out many tribes and early communities through simply outcompeting our ancestors.

Still the Neanderthals had a taste for human meat and would burn down entire villages, slaughter and eat the men and children and keep the few unfortunate females alive to mate with before eating them too (though a few of the women did manage to escape and evidently their children interbred with our other early, surviving ancestors.)

The Neanderthals were from our perspective, savage monsters that nearly drove humanity to extinction. There was at one point thanks to the Neanderthals hunting only a few hundred humans left, survivors from scattered tribes, who soon banded together and fled underground where they would remain for hundreds of years. These early humans were the first to discover magic, which eventually allowed them to return to the surface and wage war against the Neanderthal people. Even with our primitive magics we still struggled to overcome our rivals, and it was only through one of our ancestors unleashing a dark spell in desperation that we finally won as it were. The spell devastated the entire earth, to such an extent that it led to the end of the Ice Age, which in turn killed off many species besides the Neanderthals. Humanity only survived due to a combination of our own knowledge of magic and our subterranean existence.

The creature that would one day be known as Am Fear Liath Mor meanwhile was one of the last of the Neanderthals to survive. He unlike the rest of his kind was able to master the black arts to some extent, at least enough to challenge early man. He very nearly wiped our ancestors from the face of the earth, before they were finally able to slay the monster. Once again the Neanderthals proved to be our superiors as Am Fear was able to harness greater magics in his body than the average human. One can only shudder to think what would have happened if the Neanderthals as a race had discovered magics earlier.

Am Fear's corpse was left to rot for millennia, until it was unearthed during Trajan's war against the vampires. One of the bloodsuckers leaders, who had been a powerful witch in life attempted to harness the most ancient and primordial magics in the earth to use against Trajan when his forces gained the upper hand. Much like the fossilised remains of animals, traces of the most ancient magics that have long since either evolved or vanished from the earth elsewhere can remain hidden underground and in some cases can even be recreated by a skilled sorcerer.

Traces of Am Fear's magics had survived in his fossilised bones which were unearthed by the vampire after she detected them. Sadly for the vampires, she didn't have the time to properly analyse them, before Trajan's forces ultimately prevailed. The vampire/witch then fled to Scotland for safety with Am Fear's bones in the hopes of utilizing them, but she was later slain before she could do so. Her experiments however had been enough to partially drag Am Fear back from The Great Beyond. He only existed as a weak, faint spectre unaware of his surroundings and drifting aimlessly through the mountains. Every now and again however, Am Fears ghost would be able to fully manifest for short periods becoming visible and even dangerous to those unlucky enough to encounter it in the highlands. A myth built up in the Cairngorns area of the Grey Man, but once again it was not until the Blue Devil started tampering with the dark magics of the area that the Grey Man's spirit was finally able to become strong enough to manifest in this reality properly and he soon possessed the body of a particularly powerful demon.

He immediately resumed his war with humanity, butchering several innocent people using the most horrific spells and magics. However the Neanderthal wasn't just a mindless brute. Again it was by the standards of its people at least, highly intelligent and knew exactly what it was doing. It attempted to pull the spirits of its kin back from the Great Beyond, hoping to effectively revive its species. Sadly for Am Fear, their spirits though able to interact with the world were crazed and feral and even he was barely able to control them. The Neanderthal spirits went on the rampage throughout the area as the Grey Man attempted to perfect his resurrection spell. Fortunately Jocaziah, with Lindsey's help tracked the beast down to its lair and fought with the undead Neanderthal in a truly brutal showdown, but in the end the Tyrannosaur prevailed and after his defeat Am Fear's spirit was imprisoned within Scathach's base by Lindsey, with the Neanderthal spirits being sent back to the Great Beyond.

The Tyrannosaur also played an important role in the final defeat of the Blue Devil too, and proved vital in helping Lindsey rescue Carlene when she became lost in Tulloch Moor.

At the same time Lindsey also had to rescue the Dinosaur when he was captured by the stuffing man of old Aviemore. This warlock enjoyed collecting demons and creatures from other worlds in his travelling pocket dimension. He always returned to Aviemore however, simply because it was where he had grown up. His name meanwhile derived from the fact that he trapped his creatures in a frozen state magically to preserve them. The stuffing man not surprisingly soon set his sights on Jocaziah, not only due to his own interest in Dinosaurs, but a desire to absorb Kelinja's magics. Sadly despite Scathach's best efforts, he was able to capture the Tyrannosaur.

Fortunately Carlene and Lindsey were able to break their way into the stuffing man's base and free Jocaziah who devoured the warlock, finally bringing an end to his reign of terror.

Sadly during his second year the Dinosaur's growth was accelerated by Scathach themselves. They needed it to defeat a gigantic, powerful Dragon named Beithir that had escaped its prison in Tulloch Moor. This snake like entity had a particular poison in its tale which could transform humans into a hideous, toxic zombie monster, though it could also fire lightening from its tale which could trap people in a magical electrical field, in a state of perpetual agony until the Beithir was slain. The ghosts of its previous victims still stalked the land, being known as fire ghosts. (The last Beithir had been imprisoned simply so that the demons could exploit its poison.) Lindsey at first was against the idea, but soon saw there was no alternative to stopping the Dragon. Through Scathach's more stable magics, Jocaziah reached his full size of 80 feet long and 30 tons in weight.

The Tyrannosaurus at full size defeated and killed the Beithir, but afterwards it was too big to fit in Lindsey's chalet and worse after its age had been accelerated it no longer trusted Lindsey or the others and fled when they tried to take it to Loch Ness. The Tyrannosaur came to live in the woods of the highlands, but naturally its presence drew a lot attention and Scathach started to put more pressure on Nessie to try and find a new home for it, which led to disastrous consequences.

Nessie had been experimenting with opening a portal to the world within a world near Loch Morlich.

Every single world within our universe, contains at least a dozen or so mini worlds, each the size of a continent. These are not the same as pocket dimensions in that they are not created through magic. They are all a naturally occurring phenomenon, though very little about them is understood even today. Each of these mini worlds are only accessible through certain invisible portals. There is no rhyme or reason to where these portals exist on each world, and though they themselves are always stable, they can still be moved by movements in the earth and magic. One infamous example of this was when a witch's spell caused one of the portals to one of the most infamous worlds within our world to end up in the bathroom to a Little Chef!

Worlds within worlds meanwhile where inhabited by a range of creatures, some only native the worlds themselves, others from our world who fell through the portals. Dinosaurs were common in worlds within worlds due to how widespread they were during their reign.

The portal around Loch Morlich meanwhile had been sealed off by warlocks and witches many centuries ago as it had become a dangerous hiding place for criminals and demons, and many of the creatures from it stumbled back into our world. It was inhabited mostly by Dinosaurs who in the 66 million years since had evolved into new forms, and been further twisted by the magics of Scotland that had spilled their way from inside our reality. Myths and stories about giant reptiles and Dragon like creatures had always been prominent in this part of the highlands as a result of the Dinosaurs, which ironically was most likely why there had been a Dino ride in Santa Claus Land in the first place to tap into the local myths and stories.

Nessie naturally believed it would be the perfect place for Jocaziah, but it had taken her longer than she hoped to untangle the complicated spell that had covered the portal. In the end thanks to the pressure put on her by Scathach, she botched the spell. Nessie had hoped only to create a small rip, enough for the Dinosaur to go through, but still keeping it locked. Instead she accidentally completely tore the witches barrier down. Dinosaurs soon came flooding out of the portal. Jocaziah was soon drawn in by the presence of these creatures and helped Lindsey defeat a particularly large and dangerous meat eating Dinosaur from the other side. A Kakouvalosaurus Rex, "malevolent Lizard king" ironically a descendant of the Tyrannosaurus Rex that had further been twisted by magic.

After the Dinosaurs were defeated, Nessie was able to adjust the portal with Scathach's help and sent Jocaziah as well as the rest of Kelinja's creations into the world within the world. All of Kelinja's other creations became Jocaziah's subjects effectively in this world within a world, which wasn't quite the Dinosaur paradise that Nessie had hoped it would be.

Unlike in Scotland where the darkest magics were often dealt with either by demons or witches or warlocks before they got too out of control, here they had been allowed to run rampant. The sky was blackened by unnatural forces, much of the land was barren, and large rivers and pits of lava flowed through certain areas which would transform all who fell into them into the most hideous demons. Dinosaurs still dominated the land, but they were not alone. Aside from the demonic creatures, there were also the descendants of people stranded from centuries ago, not just from Scotland but other places around the world. Not all worlds within a world were linked to ours via just one portal. There was at least another to this mini world located in the Kasai valley in Africa. (Several K.rex's had even wandered into the Kasai valley through the portal at certain points leading to myths about the Kasai Rex in the local region.)

Still Jocaziah soon became the dominant creature, living at the centre of the largest valley in the mini world with his "followers" or pack rather made up of some of Kelinja's surviving creatures and a few of the natives. Not all of Kelinja's creations stayed loyal to Jocaziah. In fact some, such as the flesh eating Triceratops became his enemies. His most loyal companion and for want of a better term friend was Kelinja's Spinosaurus. This creature again did not really resemble the great prehistoric creatures of old. It was only 30 feet long, agile, had a smaller, sharper, spikier sail, walked on four legs and had a more Allosaurus shaped skull. For some reason it was loyal to the Tyrannosaur. Whether it was simply an instinctive desire for protection, or because these creatures developed an almost human like level sentience is not known. Tyrannosaurs were certainly intelligent animals, capable of incredible long term memory and even attachments greater than the some of the most intelligent species of mammals. Then again Jocaziah was obviously not representative of Tyrannosaurs in general. No one really knows the full extent of his intelligence when compared with the other members of the Mega Family.

Whilst the portal was closed, Nessie was later able to adjust it so that Lindsey could enter whenever she wanted and Jocaziah and his Spinosaur sidekick (that Lam would name Takesia, which in his language means loyalty) could enter our world too.

Lindsey and Jocaziah appeared to mend fences somewhat when dealing with the Dinosaurs that had infested Morlich lake, or at the very least the Tyrannosaur wasn't hostile to her like it had been after the death of Beithir.

In time its old affection would return and Lindsey would even call on the Tyrannosaur and Spinosaur to sometimes leave their new world and help her and Scathach deal with other threats in the highlands, though they always returned back to their world within a world afterwards.

In one instance, Lindsey, Lam, Carlene and other Scathach agents were even forced to enter the world within a world to deal with a threat, with Jocaziah again proving vital to their success. During this mission both Lindsey and Carlene even rode on the back of the Tyrannosaur, showing that the Dinosaur had overcome its previous distrust.

The last time the Dinosaur is known to have worked with Lindsey is when James prison collapsed and all its inmates escaped, leading to Aviemore and the surrounding area becoming a no man's land. Here Jocaziah faced his creator Kelinja who he was finally able to kill. As he had been created from his magics, then he could harm the demon yet at the same time was immune to his control, due to the presence of the other kinds of magics in his body that had accelerated his growth. Jocaziah personally swallowed his creator whole.

After the great break out from James prison 2007 (which also saw Carlene catapulted through time and space to the 19th century by one of the creatures, though that is a story for another time.) Lindsey would later leave Aviemore. She had lost much, not just Carlene, (one of the best friends she ever had,) and wanted a fresh start. Lindsey subsequently travelled the world for many years before eventually joining Professor Fang, the benevolent time travelling vampire, though that is a story for another time.

With Lindsey and Scathach gone, Jocaziah didn't have any further reason to leave the world within a world and remained there for the next ten years, until he and Takesia would face their greatest challenge yet. The lava rivers transformed any creature that fell into them into a demon, but the process was not always smooth and in some cases the creatures body couldn't take the magic and was ripped to pieces. In time however the pieces of numerous dead people, animals, and aborted demons bodies and souls soon merged together into a new entity that would become known as Axelia. Standing over 100 feet tall, this hideous hybrid of Dinosaur, man and demon sought to similarly rearrange other creatures by fusing parts of their bodies and souls together. It soon created an army of hideous demon, Dinosaur hybrids with which it hoped to enter our world through the portal in the Kasai valley. Jocaziah and all of his pack tried to stop the monsters and in the end, Jocaziah and Axelia itself were the only survivors of the slaughter with Takesia giving its life to save its friend.

Jocaziah however was still badly wounded and stumbled through the portal into the Kasai valley where he eventually recovered. Once he was back to health however, the Dinosaur had no desire to return to its home for the last decade (having no idea that Axelia had survived) and instead ventured beyond the Kasai valley and into the rest of the Congo. Again the Dinosaur soon drew attention from the authorities, which led to it eventually being captured by Vanessa Showina, the head of the legendary black mosque in Timbuktu. Knowing that it was no ordinary Dinosaur, having been created by demonic magics, Vanessa decided to send it to the island of Point Nemo.

Whilst there it would meet Daharian for the first time and in the next chapter we shall explore his history.
