Chapter 4

I wanted to see if I could burn more than a twig of wood, so I tried to gather enough hate and channel that energy to burn down a nearby tree, but to my disappointment, nothing happened.

Even the flame that had appeared before was now gone. I was shocked, and wondered if that was my limit or rather, if my conjuring up a flame was limited to burning small twigs.

I sat down disappointed, and tried once again, but nothing happened. Frustrated, I decided to let it rest and went on to practice like I had always done, by using the tree as my punching bag.

After hours of kicking and punching the trees around me, my knuckles were starting to bleed and my feet was also beginning to swell.

'So much for super powers',I thought to myself and started nursing my bruises and tried to stop the bleed by crushing leaves from the plants nearby and applied to my wounds.

"So messy",a man's voice came from behind me. What was wrong with people these days. Why were they all sneaking up on me?,I wondered as I turned to look at another fine specimen of a man.

He looked so much like the silver haired man I had met earlier, and he had the same set of silver eyes and had dark blonde hair. They looked so much similar and had it not been for his hair colour that was different, I would have thought that the silver haired man had come back to my rescue.

"Give me your hands",this blonde hair man was now telling me and I looked at him, as if in a daze, not knowing what he was saying.

He chuckled and said, "Don't be scared, I just want to show you how it's done". He took my bruised hands and touched them, ever so lightly, with his palms, and I felt a cool sensation spread from the tips of my fingers to my whole body, as though it was spreading rapidly, down to reach my bruised feet as well.

"And that's how its done",he said,as though showing me some magic tricks, and I looked at my hands in amazement.

Just a few seconds ago, my hands were covered in bruises, and bleeding as well, but now, with just a touch from this silver eyed man, my hands were completely healed and forget about healing, there was not even a scar left.

My feet were healed as well, and I turned to thank him, but he was now nowhere to be found.

'Strange',I thought, as I continued to check out my other feet as well. It was a miracle as both my hands were now completely healed. I wanted to learn his healing technique but before I could ask him, he had left.

As there was nothing much I could learn on my own, I decided to go back and ask Odin if he could gather any information about us.

I reached my room, freshened up and headed to the library, looking for Odin.

"Did you find anything about my fire or about your own talent?",I asked him eagerly and he gave me a grin as though he had found out what was happening to us.

I prodded him to speak rather than smile foolishly, and he laughed out happily before saying,"I don't know for sure, but I just have my guess."

He handed me a very old, dilapilated book and when I opened it, I saw that it was some sort of a journal maybe, as so many handwritten notes were scribbled on the pages.

"I don't have the patience to read it without destroying the whole thing",I simply said and handed it back to him.

He laughed at me and said, "Its a journal of someone named Ariel Bennet. Can't really say if its a he or a she with the writing as the person seemed to maintain it secretly".

"Secretly? Then how did you find it?",I asked him, curious about the journal and he shrugged while adding, "I found it in your room actually. It was lying under the old wardrobe you rarely use. I dropped my lucky charm and put my hand under the wardrobe to look for it, and found this little mystery as well"

I was now growing impatient to learn about all this mystery about us and he could see it, but he just laughed without explaining, which earned him a knock on his head, and he stopped laughing and grew serious.

"Aura, as far as what this journal says, we might be nephilims, hybrids between angels and humans",he said and my jaws dropped open.

I stared at him with my open mouth and he quickly added,"Its just my guess, but the person here writes that he heard the elders mentioning about it days before he turned sixteen, and was experiencing similar stuffs like us"

'A nephilim? Angels, did they really exist',I wondered. Those silver eyed men and the others whom I had met earlier, were they nephilims as well? Did that mean I could disapparate at will and heal people as well?

All these thoughts ran in my mind and Odin looked at me with a worried look.

"Aura, I'm not completely sure about it, because this person, he experienced much more changes in his body than us. I mean, yours was just fire and mine, I can only read stuffs quickly, but this person here could burn things and then put it out by conjuring up water from nowhere. He was probably good with telekinesis as well, as he wrote he could move things with just a thought"

I listened to this person's powers with much admiration. How powerful he must have been, and my excitement about Odin and I being nephilims seemed to die down after learning that we couldn't do much in comparison to this super being.

"Tell me what couldn't he do",I asked him with a hint of sarcasm, and he added with a shrug,"He was probably the loneliest person ever and had no one to turn to. Probably he channeled all his anger to develop his powers"
