Scene 20

Scene 20

(This scene opens with Fredrick standing at the living room entrance, waiting for Anna. The kids are on the stairs, the staff are at the kitchen door and Tomike and Dayo are watching from upstairs).

Jennifer: You look nice dad.

Isaac: Yeah dad. (Whitney nods in accordance). So don't let anxiety kill you before the heart break.

Jennifer: Exactly.

Fredrick: (Chuckles). Thanks guys.

(Seconds later Anna comes into the living room wearing a dinner dress. Jennifer taps Fredrick and he looks up and sees Anna and his eyes widen a bit. She walks up to him and smiles as he smiles too).

Fredrick: You look beautiful.

Anna: You don't look bad yourself.

Fredrick: (Chuckles). Shall we, yes we shall.

(The staff and the kids shout good night and other things to them as they leave and Chuks follows behind to go open the gate. They laugh as they hear them shouting. He opens the door for her and she gets in, he goes to his side of the car and gets in too. He starts the engine and drives out as the gate is already open. Chuks waves at them as they drive out then he closes the gate. The house is being shown again as everyone goes to their room. Tomike and Dayo are shown as Tomike has a frown on her face, looking very angry).

Tomike: Dayo we have to do something. If he gets together with that nanny, we are done for. Fredrick is going to throw us out of this house that's for sure. Dayo are you even listening to me? (She turns around to see Dayo checking his face on his phone. She hits him on the head). What is wrong with you? This is our future we are talking about here and you are not taking it seriously! If Fredrick withdraws support we are over, it is finished. No more shinny new shoes, no phone to use. Instead of listening to me and putting that empty skull of yours to some use you are looking at your face. By the time Fredrick cut's us off and leaves us to dry let me see if you will still be able to look at that face. (He still continues using his phone). It's just useless talking to you, a complete waste of time. (She gets up and starts pacing). We have to find a way to get her out of the way cause she is the only thing standing n the way of my never ending supply of money... what to do? What to do?...

Dayo: I don't know why you are worrying so much, it's not going to work for those two. She's a nanny, that's all she's ever going to be.

Tomike: I want to ask if sometimes you know you are dumb but I already know the answer. For crying out loud can't you see the way he looks at her and she him. The way he treats her, the way he cares for her, she's precious to him and this is the happiest he has been since Elizabeth. So if you think that Fredrick is going to give up such happiness because she is a nanny, then you obviously don't know Fredrick. Right I forgot, senseless. (Pauses). Fredrick doesn't care about status, once he finds love he goes for it... think Tomike, think.

Dayo: Well if you insist that she must leave.

Tomike: I do.

Dayo: And since Uncle Fredrick won't send her away or break things up with her on his free will.

Tomike: No he won't.

Dayo: Then we could just frame her for something.

Tomike: Like what? That girl is like a walking saint, unless you want to accuse her of being very good at insulting and disrespecting, then she is going away for years. Any judge will give her 30 to life.

Dayo: Funny. But what does Uncle Fredrick hate more than anything in this world.

Tomike: Uh... liars and thieves.

Dayo: And I believe he just got a new shipment of cash sitting somewhere in his room in a nice brown envelope. These days nannies aren't making enough, they need more.

Tomike: (Stays quiet for a while thinking on what Dayo just said). Oh, oh... I guess they do. They do. (She goes to hug him from behind holding only his neck and rubbing his head, then resting her chin on his head). That's my boy. Now you've spoken like your mother, you finally put that head of yours to work. So you have sense like this. (She kisses his head). They certainly do. (She smiles mischievously).

(Anna and Fredrick are shown as they are at a restaurant and they are talking as they eat).

Fredrick: Nice wine choice, thank God I let you pick. (She smiles). You really know your stuff huh.

Anna: Yeah well, when you run a restaurant you don't want to give someone red wine with a meal that goes with white.

Fredrick: True.

Anna: If the person knows what they want or are eating, consider yourself out of business, especially if the person is rich and influential.

Fredrick: (Laughs). Thank you do.

Anna: Thank God I do. (Smiles). The food is good.

Fredrick: Yeah it is. I want to ask, as a chef, how does it feel to eat someone else's meal, like I wanna know.

Anna: You are asking me how I feel every time I take a bite of someone else's food and know that okay this was made with wine, or he shouldn't have used this flavour doesn't go well with the meal or this one didn't even put effort into it at all? Great, (Fredrick laughs loudly a bit, then brings it down). I feel great.

Fredrick: Annoying huh?

Anna: Tell me about it. Like the minute any meal just touches my taste buds it send a signal straight to my brain, judging time. With every bite is a word of advice or encouragement from my brain, my brain literally jumps at the opportunity each time is presents itself. (Fredrick keeps laughing). I mean I and Gbems were at a restaurant one time and everyone was looking at us, wondering what is wrong with this people.

Fredrick: Why?

Anna: Because we were the only one who were squeezing our faces and scrunching our noses while we ate while every other person were with smiles on their faces.

Fredrick: And I bet you guys were thinking all of you, what is wrong your tastes buds.

Anna: You bet we were. Another time it was I, Gbems and Lorry. Loretta had to stop eating cause of how we were looking at her and then we eventually had to leave because we had various dishes on our table and none was appealing to our taste buds. Also apparently we were scaring the customers. (Fredrick continues to laugh which keeps making Anna smile. Then she starts to laugh too). Okay you got to dial back a little on the laugh, cause it's making me laugh and we are looking crazy. Everybody is going to think there is something inside the food or the wine has been druged.

Fredrick: (Laughs). I want to, I really do. (Laughs). Okay, okay. Sure. (He stops laughing and takes deep breaths).

Anna: That's it, just breathe.

Fredrick: I'm breathing. (Smiles). Okay, so tell me about your real parents. You said they were your adopted parents, what happened?

Anna: Yeah, uh, not much, it's a pretty simple story. Dad and mom were always busy, the helps in the house were the ones who always took care of me. Later on mom leaves, dad is still busy so the helps decided to take care of me. They did it so well and still do till today so I chose to acknowledge them as my parents, there was no legal adoption process and all. It's a choice thing.

Fredrick: Oh, so what about your parents.

Anna: Mom is dead, died years back.

Fredrick: Sorry about that.

Anna: It's okay. And dad tries to reach out once in a while but I'm not really seeing that playing out well.

Fredrick: Hmm, so who is your dad anyway.

Anna: Jacob Edet.

Fredrick: Why does that name sound familiar... wait THE Jacob Edet. (Anna smiles and nods her head). Your're telling me that your father is the billionaire Jacob Edet, on of the top 5 richest men in the country. A senator also. You mean that Jacob Edet?

Anna: One and only.

Fredrick: I should have known. When I heard Edet I should have known.

Anna: (Laughs). You should have known, come on. Is Ford that is related to Henry Ford, cause if that's the case I know where to get me some new ride for free.

Fredrick: (Laughs). You may never know. Just like at for instance, now I'll have to keep my eyes open for familiar last names...

(They continue talking and laughing as the scene fades out).

Scene closes.
