21 MEDICAL SCHOOL

A dark-haired guy sat on laid on his bed. He had a smiling face as he was reminiscing on what happened that morning. Edmund was happy with his dad's response concerning his enrollment in medical school. It was his first step to his goal.

'Liberating his kingdom from the dynasty.'

He didn't know what to do or how to do it but he kind of felt this was the road he needed to take.

Edmund had stayed long enough to know about the kingdom. He couldn't keep living like this.

He stood up to inform Ayan about this but heard something.

"Knock! Knock!"

"Come i-" The person at the door didn't wait for a response and swiftly walked.

"Well, you know I don't need to knock right?" Ayan walked into the room excitedly and lay on the bed.

"So any plans for the day?" He asked Edmund, got up, and stood beside him.

"No. not really?"

"Great, I want us to go to the tavern!" He seemed excited.

"Not yet!" Edmund looked around for a bit and asked his friend to take a sit.

"There is something I want to tell you." His voice has turned soft possibly not to be heard.

"What is it?" Ayan said in a softer tone noticing the gravity of the situation by his friend's voice.

"Okay, first of all, I need you to support my decision. Please.."

Ayan nodded in affirmation and Edmund noticed this and began speaking.

" I want to enroll in a medical school."

"What do you mean?" He didn't get what Edmund said.

"I want to become a physician."

Ayan's eyes got widened upon hearing this. This wasn't a laughing matter. It was more serious than he assumed. His friend was going to become a physician, one of the most respected and noble jobs in the kingdom.

Ayan jumped and hugged Edmund. He was happy. Being the best friend of a physician was something worth boasting about.

"This calls for a celebration!" He commented,

still maintaining his embrace.

"Not yet Ayan, we don't still know if my mum would agree." Edmund cut in and withdrew his embrace.

"Have you told uncle Culbert?"

"Yes, and he agreed!" He replied joyfully. At least he should be able to convince mum when he gives her some hot sandwiches.

The duo burst into laughter knowing what that statement meant and made their way out of the room.

* * * *

Edmund was getting worried, he hadn't received a positive reply from his dad. His mum once came to discuss with him the issue but didn't seem interested in accepting his plight.

"Maybe it's because of the money," he said out loud and headed out of his room. He needed a place to clear his mind.

He was about to go to the market possibly with the hope of meeting his warrior princess but someone approached him.

It was his father!

"Good morning." He greeted Culbert as usual, not wanting to reveal his displeasure.

"Good morning Edmund," Culbert said and walked away.

"Why did he approach me if he had nothing to say?" He hissed silently and walked away.

He was getting furious about the way things were turning out. He had lost all hopes of becoming a physician. He needed Ayan right now. He paused and turned around but then someone silently tapped his back, but this time it wasn't his dad but his mum.

"How are you doing my son," she asked sweetly.

Edmund looked at her weirdly, he wasn't going to hide his displeasure with her any longer.

"Are you annoyed with me?"

Edmund looked at her this time, with a stoic expression.

Yetty let out a sigh before speaking.

"I know why you are annoyed with me."

"Could she? Really?" He thought.

"If she knew, why is she not granting my request?"

He looked at his mum, who had a document in her hand. It looked like a letter.

She looked at his gaze.

"It's your admission!"

Edmund didn't understand this.

"Which admission?"He said silently.

"You are now a physician." His dad said from behind.

Edmund turned around to his dad. His excitement was written all over his face. He didn't think that they gave his thoughts so much reason. But they did.

He wrapped his arm around his mum and did the same to his dad afterward.

"Thank you dad!" he looked around at his mum.

"Thanks, mummy!"

He took the document from her hand and read it. He wasn't so good at reading but was able to pick up some of the words. His eager eyes scrolled to the end of the content and he found the tuition.

"What!" He screamed from the amount he saw.

"200 silver!"

He turned to his parents giving them a grateful look. It must take them a lot.

"Thank you very much, mum! Dad! Thanks a lot."

"So when do I start?" He voiced out and his parents laughed as they watched their eager son.

"Well, we will have to travel up north. So when do you want to go?" Culbert spoke and smiled at him.

"How about today?" Edmund replied and Yetty giggled at him.

"No silly, it's late. How about early tomorrow morning. At the first cock crow."

"Yes!" Edmund commented, handed her the document, and ran off the room.

'All he wanted to do now was to tell Ayan all these'
