2 Chapter 2 - The snake is a bit jealous

Panting hard, she ran through the forest with the pursuers hot on her trail. Her life had changed drastically in the last 24 hours.

As the assistant of the emperor, she lived a lavish life, not having to worry about money or her own safety since the emperor was very kind. Yet, the emperor suddenly died in his sleep and with his death the prince took command.

Now she was fleeing from assassins at the command of the prince, all because she knew too much and had a big support which difficulted the things the prince wanted to change in the empire.

"Over There!"

The sudden shout seemed to give her newfound strength as she started running faster, she wasn't weak by any means but the ones pursuing her were highly trained in assassination so her chances of running away were slim.

Seemingly from nowhere she was hit on the back and the legs with throwing knives that immediately left her gasping for breath on the ground.

One by one her attackers came down from the top of the trees and started surrounding her to make sure she didn't escape.

"Finally, we got you, I must say, we didn't think we were going to have this much trouble." One of them came closer to her.

"I guess you weren't the emperor's assistant for nothing. Too bad your life ends here."

The rage and helplessness in her eyes were striking but the assassin didn't even seem fazed by it. With the amount of people he had killed he learned how to not care about his victims circumstances.

As he crouched down to impale a knife in her head, she tried to run away even with her legs not working, her eyes were streaming with tears and her throat was feeling raspy. She was a young girl that didn't do anything her whole life but work for the empire and in the end, this is what she got.

'I don't want to die...'

"Ahh!" One of the men in the back screamed and the others saw him disappear right in front of them.

All they saw was a massive spider grabbing him and pulling him to the top of a tree. In the dead of the night, it was difficult to see a monster that an entire black body.

Still processing what happened, more screams were heard, and the leader was quick to act and give orders.

"Retreat! She'll probably be eaten by the monsters anyway. The jobs done!"

The retreat was easy, suspiciously so. But the leader did not give it any mind, it was already out of his plan losing any members in a supposedly easy mission.

The woman's consciousness was fading away as the blood flowed out of her body.

But as the spiders approached her and started wrapping her body in her silk, she was still conscious and it only made her more afraid of what awaited her in the future.

---

With a silk cocoon in its claws an eagle flew through the forest in the direction of the colony. It was known by every close member of the colony that if a human was found alive, he/she should be brought to the Nest.

After flying for some time, they finally reached the waterfall where the entrance to the Nest was located. The eagle was starting to get very nervous, the blood continued to stain the spider silk and there had been no movement from human for a while.

As soon as it landed and carefully dropped the cocoon on the ground the mother started unwrapping the silk of the cocoon like a child on Christmas.

When she finished unwrapping the head the woman was somehow still awake although barely, her face stained with blood and tears and her eyes with almost no light.

"Ah… Don't worry child, rest now." She didn't mind the blood-stained face and tenderly caressed her cheek.

The mother's heavenly voice seemed to tickle all the woman's right places, giving her a little bit of hope that knocked her out.

She took the woman out of the cocoon and had a few worker ants take her to her place in the Nest where she started trying to heal her.

Ironically, healing her wasn't that hard, the wounds hadn't hit many vital organs so for someone like the mother the healing process wasn't impossible. Even then, she continued to stay by the woman's side till she woke up.

--

Using spider silk, she made a big circular open cocoon so that she and the woman could lie down comfortably.

Two months passed and she still hadn't woken up, in this time the woman started to grow a bit thin even with the mother trying to give her nutrients.

The final egg, the one she was afraid was going to die actually survived and hatched without any problem. From it came a snake that rapidly grew in size, in only two weeks her girth grew so much that it was now almost at the heights of the mother's waist.

That snake was currently outside the cocoon, named by the children as the nursery, very sad that she couldn't go inside.

"Come here, little one."

Hearing her voice, the snake raised her head and was fast to lie her head on her mother's lap, greatly enjoying her caresses and the sweet things she whispered. Although she kept note that one of her hands was holding the hands of the woman.

It was then that they both felt movement on their side, and there it was, the sleeping beauty slowly waking up.

Her originally short blonde hair had now grown a bit just past her shoulders. Her blue eyes were still blurry trying to adjust to the light of the crystals on the walls. And although she tried, she couldn't barely move, turns out not moving for months isn't very good for your body.

Turning her attention to the woman, the mother used her free hand to slowly brush her hair off her eyes.

"You're finally awake."
