Rem's First Dungeon

Monsters!

Where did these monsters come from? They came from portals, bright purple portals which connected the world to another place.

To combat the monsters that came from these portals, Humans which had adapted to the magical energy produced from the portals were recruited- These humans were called Magus.

They were able to use Magical energy to fire attacks called spells which could harm Monsters.

But it wasn't only Magus that could battle these Monsters, Humans who had honed their physical body could do so with a weapon imbued with magical energy- They were called Cavaliers.

But at the pinnacle of the world, Magus which were more powerful than other beings that roamed the planet resided. They were called Monarchs.

Monarchs held unrivaled magical power and were the powerhouses of the world, No sane Magus or Cavalier would dare challenge a Monarch.

Magus and Cavaliers joined together to raid a Dungeon gate and defeat the boss that lay within the walls of the Dungeon.

A black haired boy with deep gray eyes ran his hand through his hair, his face was emotionless as he found himself staring blankly at the Dungeon gate before him, it was as purple as the rumors said and even the surroundings seemed to resonate with the dungeon.

His eyes landed on a Cavalier, clad in steel armor and a sword in hand. The boy stared intensely at the sword and as he expected, A purple screen popped up above it.

[Item Name: Magic Iron Sword]

[Item Grade: D-grade]

[Item Description: The Magic Iron Sword is a sword made out of Magic Iron, It is effective against monsters in D-grade dungeons]

[Item Durability: 13 / 30]

The young boy sighed; Of course the Cavalier was using old equipment for Dungeon raiding.

'This purple screen,' the boy thought.

It wasn't new to him, he had been seeing it ever since the first day of this week and at first he had been confused about it but now he was ever so slightly knowledgeable about it.

"What is your name?!" A Burly Cavalier boomed, staring down the young boy with dreadful crimson eyes.

"My name is Rem," Rem replied while looking straight into his eyes. There wasn't much to be afraid of, One could tell about the ranking of a Cavalier from the grade of their gear.

As Rem could see all the Cavaliers wielded D-grade equipment, it was not hard to see that they were mere D-rank Cavaliers.

"I'm here to lift baggage," Rem said.

While Magus and Cavaliers could enter dungeons in groups, there was another job that the public was made aware of- Baggage carrier, the job entailed the carrying of their weapons and resources into the dungeon. If it was just as easy as that, there would be more baggage carriers in existence but that wasn't the end.

A Baggage Carrier was responsible for his / her own life in the Dungeon, it was as easy as that. Unless a Magus or a Cavalier felt the need to lend you a hand, you could be confronted and killed by monsters in the Dungeon.

Rem was aware of this fact but he needed to do something to earn money… especially in this cruel society.

"You're on your own kid," The Cavalier said and turned around, "I've seen kids with good future like you die in dungeons, A dungeon is anything but a playground,"

Rem's eyes left the Cavalier and he surveyed the rest of the team, For a D class Dungeon raid, A total of 6 Party members were needed and one of them must be a magus.

For this team, they had a total of 3 Magus and 3 Cavaliers which was quite lucky but Rem wasn't going to depend on another human being for his life, he already knew how despicable humans could be.

Whenever a Dungeon gate appeared, anyone within a 100-meter radius was evacuated. This was to prevent the incident called 'Dungeon Breach'.

In a Dungeon breach, the monsters within the dungeon broke out of the gate and invaded the world outside.

"We're ready," The Squad leader, a Magus with light brown hair said.

Rem nodded silently and lifted a heavy backpack on his shoulder, he was going to have to carry this all the way into the dungeon and right back out of the dungeon.

The once rowdy party quieted down as each of them positioned themselves behind the Squad Leader, Rem found himself beside the bulky Cavalier from earlier.

"Let's go," The Magus said and then they entered the purple gate, going to the world on the other side.

#####

Rem could hear the distant dripping of water in the cavern they appeared in.

"So this is a dungeon," Rem said with a little bit of surprise.

This was his first time entering a Dungeon and for carrying baggage, He would be paid a total of 10 Bronze coins!

"Always be on guard," The Squad Leader said and then his azure eyes brightened.

"I call upon the raging power of the Earth, Earth Spikes!" A magus cried out with her palms wrapped in brownish aura.

As she placed her palms into the ground, a tremor echoed as spikes made of stone emerged from the ground, they were powerful and quick.

'Why did she use a Spell?' Rem thought.

His eyes went to where the Earth Spikes were going and he saw a name floating. Yes, that was one of the unique skills the Purple screen granted.

'Goblin'

The Earth spikes connecting, impaling the Goblin from below and sending it rising into the air, green blood painting the spike.

It was the first time Rem was seeing such a gruesome show of power but he didn't falter, This was life… The strongest survive and the weak die off.

The Burly Cavalier raised his eyes up in confusion as he looked at Rem, who didn't seem affected by the Goblin's death.

'What's with this Child?'

Rem didn't look a day older than 14, yet he didn't show any emotion towards the death of the Goblin.

'He looks like an experienced raider,' The burly Cavalier thought.

Rem widened his eyes in confusion as the group moved forward, he was passing by the place where the goblin died when a green flash of light drew his attention to the corpse of the goblin.

A Cavalier stabbed into the corpse and rummaged at the heart, pulling out the Magical stone engraved in the heart of the monster. This was why adventurers entered the Dungeon, For the stones… Selling these stones could earn Adventurers a fortune!

It's figure was mangled and grotesque but Rem could see something, a flicker of green aura and then the Purple screen kicked in.

[Would you like to absorb 'Goblin' Soul?]

[Yes / No]

Rem tapped on the yes as no one was looking at him and then the flicker of green aura shot into his body.

He didn't feel any different but the Screen said otherwise.

['Goblin' soul has been successfully absorbed]

['Goblin Soldier' can be summoned]

[You have gained Unique Skill: Baton Smash (E-grade)]

The Purple screen showed him new notifications after the green aura entered his body, He didn't understand much but Rem was sure about one thing.

'I can take the abilities of Monsters,' Rem thought in surprise.
