8 Victim Of Circumstances.....

It was unbelievable....

Lia never thought she would see them again, especially after everything that happened during her mother's accident.

Also, them coming here meant that she was back to her roots. This realisation gave rise to an indescribable sense of security in Lia.

' Thank you..Thank you so much, Uncle Carlos. ' She knew that now she could start all over again.

Lia was in dire need for support now more than ever and Carlos knew that very well. Therefore, he thoughtfully arranged everything in such a way that brought Lia exactly to those people who can truly give her the support she so desperately needed.

For a few minutes no one spoke. It was as if the whole world had turned silent.

The nuns remained rooted on their spots.

There were thousands of questions, but not a single word to express them.

Neither side knew exactly what the other was thinking, but they themselves were only thanking the Heaven for the moment.

Surbhi watched the entire exchange from the sidelines. She had heard a lot about the student teacher bond between the nuns and Lia. Today, the array of emotions that played in their eyes upon seeing each other was the proof that everything she ever heard was nothing but a beautiful truth.

According to her, if the definition of miracle was an extraordinary and welcoming event that can not be explicable by nature or scientific laws and therefore attributed to a divine agency, then Lia was a living example of it.

If she didn't witness this exchange with her own two eyes then she would never have believed that such bonds even exist, especially when humanity was depleting by the second.

After enjoying the exchange to the fullest she decided it was time to bring everyone back to the reality.

Cough!!!! Cough!!!! Cough!!!!

" Helloooo! Why did you glue yourself at the door? Don't you know that it's rude to keep standing like a statue when you are visiting a sick person? Sit down for god sake! " She reprimanded pretending to be angry and thus breaking the silence.

Surbhi's words hit the bull's-eye.

The nuns snapped back into reality and finally entered the room. They approached Lia with a look of amazement and sat on the stools that Surbhi placed for them next to the bed. They felt as if they were still dreaming.

" How are you feeling Lia?? " The elderly nun spoke first trying to start the conversation.

The elder nun's gentle, reassuring voice filled with concern broke Lia's heart. Streams of tears rolled down her cheeks.

" Sorry..... I'm sorry Father... " was all she managed to say.

" No Lia...No... You have nothing to be sorry about. You did nothing wrong. You were only a victim of circumstances. " The elder nun reassured.

" Father Abraham is right Lia, don't punish yourself for the wrong you have never committed and insult almighty's kindness. " said Brother Fernandez, the young nun.

Reassuring words from the nuns lifted a huge weight from Lia's heart.

After a moment of silence, Brother Fernandez began to enquire about Lia's condition and noticed that something was off.

" Dr. Rathod! Where is nurse Ishwari? "

The question caused a dramtic change in Surbhi's facial expressions and body language. And not in a pretty way.

She was so infuriated, so infuriated that she gave in to her urge and threw the thick medical file straight at Brother's face.

Lia was surprised at Surbhi's daring act while Father Abraham massaged his wrinkled templates hoping that it would reduce the on coming headache, because for the past five years Brother Fernandez and Dr. Surbhi have been religiously maintaining a cat and dog relationship which at times went beyond just out of control.

The file landed square on Brother's face without any warning.

Ouch!!!!

" WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS, DR. RATHOD? " Brother roared at the top of his lungs but was no match for Surbhi.

" I SHOULD BE THE ONE ASKING THAT, YOU MORON! "

Lia wanted to say something but, Father signaled her not to do so.

" Why! What happened? " Father asked instead, knowing well that he just dug his own grave.

Hearing the elderly nun's enquiry, Surbhi practically bolted over to his side with an aggrieved look and began complaining.

" Father, you tell me how many times did I tell him to fire nurse Ishwari and hire a new nurse?? "

" What the hell is your problem with her??? Can't you adjust a little??? " Brother snarled.

" If I begin to adjust with you and your morons, then who is going to take care of Miss Lia, YOU??? " Surbhi retorted sarcastically. 

Father : " ... "

Lia : " ... "

" You-" Brother wanted to refute but held back his tongue under Father's fearsome glare.

" That's enough arguing for one day. " Father scolded then turned to Surbhi. " Surbhi, can please tell us what exactly happened here? And  where is nurse Ishwari?? "

Father's stern note left little room for complaining. Therefore, Surbhi began to explain without any further argument.

According what she explained, when Lia woke up early in the morning the chubby lady she meet was none other than nurse Ishwari, who was hired to help Surbhi take care of Lia.  Thanks to her ridiculous believe in superstition when that stupid nurse saw Lia awake and staring at her she thought that she was possessed by some evil spirits and ran out of the room as well as the mansion. Surbhi found her in an unconscious state outside the mansion gates and had to call another nun named Brother Gemson to take her to the hospital.

" So you see Father, that is why I have been super busy since morning. I have to do everything myself with no help. Now you tell me what am I supposed to do? I have to attend Miss Lia, do all the medical check ups and even record everything. " Surbhi pouted to the elder.

Brother Fernandez slapped his forehead after listening everything. This time there was no way out for him.

Just then, it suddenly clicked to him what Surbhi said and he replayed it in his mind. 

" Wait a minute! Hold on! Hold on! You just said that Lia woke up once early in the morning, right ? " he began to interrogate Surbhi.

" Yes, I did...." Surbhi didn't understand where he was going but replied anyway.

Not only Surbhi, even Father Abraham didn't understand what Brother Fernandez was trying to get to. As for Lia, though she was silent she did have a hunch.

" But you called us late in the afternoon? " Brother continued interrogating.

Bull's-eye!

Lia remembered that Surbhi almost forgot that she had to inform them and cursed herself to no end.

Surbhi took a few deep breaths to calm her irritation towards Brother Fernandez and began to explain again!

" It's true that Lia woke up early in the morning, but that's not countable. According to the medical protocols sometime a vegetative person's body reacts to the subconscious state of mind the person is in during the term which in rare cases is an exact imitation of a normal person. But in reality his or her mind is still in coma. Also, there is another condition which was exactly the case of Miss Lia where she was completely out of coma for a few minutes but slipped right back in due to lack of brain stability. It happens when a person has gone through an heavy emotional breakdown or suffered severe injuries. The second one is the rarest of the rare case and coming out of it within just seven hours nothing less than a miracle.

As for me calling you later rather than sooner is because I had to attend Miss Lia's needs first and make sure she is stable, then waste my time on useless beings like youself! "

God!! This was seriously beyond cat and dog chase. 

Brother Fernandez had nothing more to say. Not that could say anything either. 

" I'm really sorry for all the trouble I caused you Dr. Surbhi and thank you so much for taking care of me so patiently even though you had such a rough day. I'm really sorry. " Lia really had no idea that the young doctor was going through so much and she really appreciated the care. 

" Oh! No! No! No, Miss Lia! " Surbhi cut in hurriedly. " You have nothing to be sorry about. You're sick and taking care of a sick person is my job. Its just that half of my problems wouldn't exist if a certain someone was as thoughtful as you. " Surbhi consoled Lia while throwing accusational looks towards Brother Fernandez.

" Oh my god! Look at the time! I almost forgot that we informed NIMHAMS about Lia's waking up and they are sending a medical as well as a rehab team. The Director said that the team would arrive by evening. "

"....." For a moment Surbhi froze and then. " FATHER! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? " The news of the medical team's arrival was like a bomb dropped on her.  " Oh God! There is still some data that I need to record. Okay...Father can you please accompany Miss Lia while I get things ready for the medical team. "

" No problem, I'll stay . Besides I want to talk to her as well. So don't worry. And Brother Fernandez I want you to get a new nurse for Lia BEFORE the medical team arrives by hook or crook. Is that clear??? " The elder reassured Surbhi and instructed Brother Fernandez.

With that both Brother and Surbhi left the room. One totally dejected, the other overly joyed. After they left the room immediately fell silent again giving the elder a moment to have a proper look at Lia.

Father Abraham with his experienced eyes and years of wisdom gave Lia a thorough look, studying every inch of her. A smile spread across his lips. The more he studied, the wider he smiled. He was happy not because Lia woke up. No! He was happy because the real Lia finally surfaced herself.

Even though the girl before him was the same on the outside, there was a complete makeover on the inside. Now she exuded a vibe of confidence. There was sharpness in her eyes with a sense of wisdom and deep understanding. Now she was full of life, she had the will to live and a purpose in life.

He thanked the Heavens for the millionth time and was truly indepted for its kindness.
