1 Chapter 1

The howls of the white wolves echoed throughout the forest as they made their final stand, they were heavily wounded and pushed into a cornered position. The wolves desperate attempt to ward of their attackers was in vain, as while they were spending the last of their energy the many attackers were now slowly circling them and moving in closer step by step.

"Haaarg!!" a loud cry and before the leader could comprehend where the sound was coming from it's vision faded to black as a spear pierced through the back of it's neck. Once the leader had fallen the remaining wolves began to recklessly attack towards the attacker but to no avail as when they did many more cries resounded out and they were all pierced almost instantaneously.

The three attackers stood above the corpses, the one who killed the leader had long braided hair with black iris' hung down the back of his brown creamy body, a feature shared by the whole tribe, his tall physique amplified by his toned abs. He was joined by two boys both with the same brown skin. The taller looking boy had a short braided ponytail while the slightly shorter one had a much larger braided ponytail that went down his back.

"Good job Kira, you too Kai." as attacker who killed the pack leader pulled out his spear from it's neck, he spoke to the two boys accompanying him. "Of course father." Kai, the shorter of the two siblings, said with a proud grin while his brother Kira simply nodded with a smile. The trio took the pack of three with the father carrying two wolves over each shoulder while his two sons together carried the pack leader.

They made their way back toward their village and upon entering they took the bodies to the head chief's hut. Upon entering they lay down the bodies and were greeted by the village chief accompanied by the village elders.

The chief wore a circlet made of steel and a boar hide cape, hide boots and lower hide tunic, he had a tall muscular body and long braided hair. The elders wore similar outfits but without the circlet and with hooded tunics.

"Welcome back Katsu, nephews." the chief said while bowing. "Hello chief, elders." The two boys said while lowering their heads.

Katsu waved the boys away and they quickly left the tent and went back home. After the two had left the chief put on a more serious face and asked his brother in a concerned tone, "This is even fewer than last month right?, at this rate we won't have enough food to survive winter."

"What do you suggest we do, submit to those dogs?" as Katsu said this the the elders could only look down in contemplation as they understood the meaning of his words.

"Kantu my brother, why do we continue to suffer because of the Wolfspear tribe?, why should we have to pay tribute to those dogs just for some measly scraps?," as Katsu continued to express his displeasure of the idea of working under another tribe, their enemies no less, the chief was silently contemplating what he should do, not only for the pride of his tribe but also for the continued survival of his people.

Kantu asked his older brother expectedly for his brothers solution, "Then brother, what do you suggest we do?" as soon as he asked this the faces of the elders also looked up in anticipation.

Katsu looked around at the elders and then his sharp eyes landed onto his brother with determination, "We declare war on the Wolfspear tribe, if we can convince the Blue Lotus tribe to join us then we together would be more than enough to take a few more hunting areas under our control." As he finished his sentence the elders burst into a loud roar as they stated their displeasure with an alliance with the Blue Lotus tribe.

"How can you even suggest any cooperation with those fiends?!"

"War with the Wolfspear tribe is as good as death!"

"I cannot believe I thought you had an actual plan!"

"Chief how can you listen to this madness!"

"Enough!"

With a single word the four elders were silence and Kantu paused in silence and thought about what his brother was suggesting before finally sighing and deciding to humour his brothers plan, "So... how do you suggest we form this alliance?" he said before sitting down followed by his elders and his brother.

~Outside the chiefs hut

"What do you think they are discussing?" Kai asked Kira curiously as they walked towards their home.

"Isn't it obvious," he said and clicked his tongue before continuing, "War, the hunting grounds are getting scarce and we won't have enough food for winter."

"War, do you think we will have to take part?" Kai asked with excitement.

"Of course" Kira said with a sly grin.

Whilst walking back they stopped at a large stone hut with smoke surrounding it, as they entered the smoke they held their breath but it only got stronger until it stopped and slowly dissipated.

"Ah my little warriors, you have returned." a voice sounded as the smoke slowly dissipated and a short hunched figure sat on a stone chair next to a forge with a fresh axe in his hand.

"Greetings elder Maxus" said Kira as the two boys lowered their head.

"How was the hunt, did you find the spears useful?" he asked completely ignoring the greetings they gave to him. Elder Maxus was the village blacksmith and has made all the weapons used by the tribe for more than sixty years. He had never fought in a war however he was the most respected man in the village for his knowledge, but also for his reliable weapons, something that any warrior holds dear. His head was bald and his body was large for his age with clear muscles from many years of hammering away at the forge.

Beside the old man was a young boy no older than Kai and Kira, he wore a rag which he wrapped across his face in order to try and block out the smoke. The young boy wore tired baggy eyes almost completely covered by his fringe. He was Marius the grandson of Elder Maxus and the sole apprentice to his legacy.

"Yes elder, they pierced straight through with ease, and it didn't break this time." Kira said while showing the elder his spear followed by Kai who did the same.

"Ha, and was it a good hunt this month?" Maxus then asked.

"No elder, the wolves are the only prey worth hunting and they are scarce as well. Father is currently talking with the Chief, from what we discussed this morning I'm guessing he will push for war." Kira answered in an ashamed tone, however a pinch of excitement could be heard by those with keen enough ears.

Elder Maxus' ears were such keen ears as he had heard many warriors talk about war before with such excitement and anticipation. "Good, we have been at peace for too long, it was only a matter of time before we were attacked anyway. Best we strike first and gain something from it." he said loudly so that passer biers could hear him, then he continued "I assume you will both be joining?"

"Of course elder, I have yearned for this moment since I was first told of the old tales of war." Kira said with a smile forming on his face, Kai also began to smile as he listened to his brother reminding himself of such tales of war and glory.

"As expected of true warriors, not many your age are like yourself." he said while patting his grandson on the shoulder.

Marius looking up at his grandfather and then at the two brothers in front of him he spoke in a determined tone, "Grandfather I also want to join if we are to go to war."

Maxus looked at his grandson and the fiery passion that burned in his eyes which caused him to smile and itch his shaggy beard, "Good, I will talk to your father. It's good to experience these things when you are in your youth, ha maybe you will gain some insight I could not if you see the weapons we create in battle." he said and hugged his grandson tight with his giant arm.

"Well boys if you do go to war I will be sure to make you are all fitted with the best weapons." Maxus said before grabbing another piece of steel and starting his next weapon.

As the two walked away they were approached by Marius who handed Kai a small pendent with a flower in the middle, " Here the gift you ordered, it's maybe my best work I spent all night on the engraving." he said in a proud tone.

"Thank you Maxus and I will keep up my end of the deal." Kai said before exchanging goodbyes and continuing with his brother.

"So who's the lucky lady?" Kira asked after an awkward few minutes of silence.

"Ah, don't worry about it I will tell you another time maybe." Kai said nervously which Kira simply shook his head decided to ignore his brothers strange behaviour.

To be honest Kira didn't much care for woman as much as he did for war, it's something he has yearned for as long as he could remember. Kira and Kai were twins and both shared a handsome looking appearance however Kai a little more care of his appearance than Kira who's only focus was on war.

The two conversed as they continued home which was along the outer layer of the village as their father was the one who lead the night watch and also the War Chief responsible for leading the troops. Because of this his home was much larger and contained two huts, one for the children and another for the parents. A privilege not many had in the village. Kira and Kai were both 15 and the eldest of six siblings with their younger brother Kane who was 10 followed by their Sisters Sasha aged 6, then Hana and Sana the youngest twins only a few weeks old.

They arrived at their home and was greeted by Kane and Sasha who both stopped playing instantly as they saw their brothers return and rushed towards them. Sasha leapt onto Kai and hugged him tightly while she exclaimed "Brothers you promised to play today where were you all day!?" while looking at Kira with saddened eyes.

Kira simply glanced down at the young girl before turning toward Kane who was patiently waiting with his eyes fixed on Kira with admiration as he already knew were the two had been from the faint traces of blood on his lower tunic. "Where is mother?" he asked ignoring his sister who looked down even more dejected.

"s-she is inside with the twins." Kane said with a slight stutter and then began to lead Kira inside to his mother.

As the two walked away Kai could only looked down at his precious younger sister and stroked her long silky black hair, then he kneeled down to look at her shiny purple eyes which were on the verge of tears and spoke in a calming voice, "Do not mind eldest brother, he is just very busy at the moment, I will convince him to come play next time." as he said this Sasha expression recovered slightly but still had a dejected look. Kai continued to speak as he stood up and held her hand, "Come, I will play with you for as long as you want." after hearing this Sasha expression began to beam as a smile appeared on her face and the two went into the village to play.

As the two went into the village the Kira and Kane arrived in the kitchen and placed down a portion of wolf meat onto the table which alerted their mother of their presence. "Kira my child, how was your trip?" she said in melodic voice as she placed the twins in their crib and held her arms out to embrace him.

"It wasn't as bountiful as we hoped, Father is right now discussing with the Chief about a possible solution." he said as he accepted his mothers embrace.

Her face darkened slightly as she heard his words and flinched. "So he truly wants this war to go ahead." she said softly with a hint of sadness in her voice.

"It's the only option we have left, without more grounds we will starve come winter." Kira said with a stern voice.

"You sound more and more like your father everyday." His mother said as she hugged him tighter.

For the first time during the conversation as he felt his mothers concern Kira's face became softer as the muscles in his face almost gave out, he released himself from his mother's embrace surprising her slightly and with his hands on her shoulders he spoke after a moment of hesitation, "Mother, I and Kai will be joining this war with father."
