Prologue

Nothing was supposed to happen the way it did. I was never supposed to get captured, I never should have met Kai and his crew, and a war never should have started. I stare into Kai's eyes. I could feel my life slipping away. Nothing else mattered as long as he was alive. Is this how The Little Mermaid felt? A love that is so deep that you would be willing to betray your family and give up your life.

"Stay with me!" is the last thing I hear that comes out of Kai's mouth. His mouth is moving but I can't hear anything. The excruciating pain I was feeling is now nothing more than a numb feeling. Tears streamed down Kai's eyes. I wanted so badly to wipe them away as I wanted so badly for this to not be real.

He connects his head with mine and says something. I try to move my arms to touch his face but I can't. I can't feel, hear, or see anything now. My consciousness slips into the abyss. This was never supposed to happen and I was never supposed to die.
