What Happened and then Some

Kota's eyes started to flutter and he noticed that he was in a medical wing in Air Temple Island. He looked at himself. He was covered in bandages that wrapped around his shoulder, chest, and torso. He felt someone holding his hand and looked to his right to see Asami who was sleeping with her head on the bed. Kota used his thumb to brush over her knuckles gently and smiled.

She must have stayed throughout the whole time he was unconscious. He smiled and gently cupped her cheek.

Asami slowly opened her eyes as she felt a familiar hand cup her cheek. As she opened her eyes, she looked up and her eyes widened as she saw the bandaged Kota smiling at her.

"Hey, Klutz…"

Asami's eyes widened as she saw her boyfriend who was smiling in front of her eyes. She started to tear up as he jumped in and hugged him.

"OW OW OW OW!" Kota screamed, he still felt some pain from Ming Hua stabbing him in three places.

Asami didn't care, she was relieved that her boyfriend had gotten up. She separated from their hug and looked at him with teary eyes. He gave her a sad smile as he cupped her cheeks and cleaned her tears.

"I thought you were going to die?"

"Really?" Kota said with a chuckle, "I wasn't out for that long."

When Kota said the last part Asami looked up at Kota with a sad look.

"Why the long face?" Kota asked, he then realized something, "How long was I out for?"

Asami looked sad as she looked at her boyfriend's confused expression. "You've been in a coma for a whole month."

"N-No," Kota then laid back and was now in disbelief. It can't be, surely he was just out for hours. "Where's Korra?"

"She's in the Southern Water Tribe," Asami said. "She's recovering after her encounter with Zaheer?"

"Is she okay?"

"No…" Asami looked at her boyfriend with a solemn look, "She was poisoned, but Suyin managed to take the poison out of her, but at the cost of her walking."

Just then Lin came in with a vase of flowers. Her eyes widened in shock and accidentally dropped her vase as she saw her son awake.

"Lin what's wrong?!" Tenzin came running and his reaction was just like Lin's. The two walked over to their son and hugged him as he hugged them back.

"Your father and I were so scared," Lin said.

"You've been in a coma for a whole month and thought the worst," Tenzin said.

"Sorry, guys," Kota apologised to his parents, he looked around and didn't see his younger siblings.

"Where are Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo a-and Rohan?" Kota asked.

"I'll go get your brothers and sisters," Asami said, getting up to get them.

Kota was now left alone with his parents as they sat by his bed. "We came to visit you as much as we could, but ever since Korra left, the Air Nation has started to try to maintain peace to the world." Tenzin explained.

"With the Earth Queen dead, the Air Nation has started to help out in settlements across the Earth Kingdom," Lin said.

"The Earth Kingdom is in shambles huh?" Kota asked.

Lin and Tenzin nodded at their son's question who sighed. "Something like this can always throw the other nations over. How is Zaofu?"

"Su hasn't done anything yet to help out the Earth Kingdom," Lin said.

"Knowing her, she won't," Kota said.

Just then Asami, who was carrying Rohan, Pema, and the kids came in except for Jinora, who was nowhere to be seen.

"KOKO!"

Ikki and Meelo ran and hugged their older brother who laughed and hugged them back, "Hey guys, where's Jinora?"

Jinora came in and she was wearing different robes, one that airbending masters wore. He also noticed that Jinora was bald and had her tattoos. Kota couldn't help but smile at his sister.

Jinora's eyes started to water as she ran and hugged her brother.

"Hey kiddo," Kota said.

Jinora pulled from the hug and looked at her 20-year old brother with teary eyes. "We were so scared, we thought you wouldn't wake up."

Kota chuckled as Asami approached them and handed Rohan to Kota. The infant laughed as he saw his older brother's face.

"Hey there Rohan…" Kota said, cradling his baby brother. He looked at Asami and the two smiled at each other as the whole family was ecstatic that Kota had woken up from his coma.

Three years had passed and there was a press event where Future Industries was giving the red ribbon. Asami and Kota were standing together, Kota had a major change. He grew a full beard though it was way shorter than his father's. It covered his whole face and his hair was longer than before. In the crowd he can see his father and Pema who was holding a baby girl who had grey-blue eyes, she was Kota's and Asami's daughter who was around 6 months old. Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo were with them and the 3-year old Rohan was on their father's shoulders. Lin was with Mako who were standing behind a man in a green suit who looked similar to the Earth Queen. He was the Prince of the Earth Kingdom, great-nephew of the late Earth Queen.

"And of course my biggest thanks goes to Mrs. Asami Sato, Mr. Kota Beifong, and Future Industries." Raiko said, "She brought our old central terminal into the modern era. Ladies and gentlemen, the world is entering a new age of peace and prosperity. Soon Prince Wu will take his rightful place on the Earth Kingdom throne. And thanks to our updated rail system, Republic City and the Earth Kingdom will be united like never before."

Everyone in the crowd started clapping as Asami cut the ribbon.

Kota was with Pema as she handed her stepson his daughter. "Thanks for watching Harumi," Kota said. "Oh it was no trouble," Pema said, "Tenzin was happy to have his granddaughter around. The kids also love it because they can act like aunts and uncles." Kota chuckled as he was holding on to his baby daughter.

Asami was doing some press when Prince Wu approached her.

"Hey Asami, right?" Prince Wu attempted to flirt with her, "Great train house. Maybe you can give me a personal tour sometime. Whaddya say?"

"I do like the idea of putting you on a train and sending you far far away," said the annoyed Asami.

Prince Wu laughed, "That's funny! I like funny dames. Let me introduce myself, I'm Prince Wu, future king."

"I'm aware of who you are," Asami said, "my husband has told me a lot of things about you."

"And who might your husband be?"

Asami looked back to see Kota and their daughter in his arms approaching them, she pointed at Kota. "That's my husband."

Prince Wu later looked at the baby girl and was confused, "Kota Beifong is your husband?! And the baby girl…"

"Is my daughter." Asami said.

Before Prince Wu could say anything, Mako came in and Kota stood by Asami's side. "Prince Wu, President Raiko has some really important things to talk to you about."

"Now?" Prince Wu sighed, "Fine."

Prince Wu then walked away. "He's a real charmer, huh?"

"Off his rocker that's what it is," Kota said, handing the baby girl to Asami as she walked off to Jinora and the other kids.

"How can you stand being his bodyguard, dude?" Kota asked.

"Well I just remind myself that once he's on the throne, I go back to being a Detective." Mako said.

"Surely that's not the only thing you do," Kota said with a smirk.

"I also go home and smash my head into the wall for an hour, you know to get the stress out," Mako said.

Kota chuckled as the two went into a bro-hug, "It's good to see you man. It's been years, have you heard from Bolin at all?

"I haven't talked to him for a while, but he's coming in a few days for the coronation and your mom told me that Korra is coming back tonight." Mako said.

Kota chuckled, "She told me the same thing. It's gonna be weird. We're all gonna see each other after all these years."

Mako chuckled, "It is."

Mako looked to see Asami who was with the airbending siblings. Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo were playing with Harumi as she started giggling at their airbending tricks. "So, you and Asami got married, huh?"

"Yeah," Kota chuckled, "Though we were bummed when most of you couldn't come. Though, duty calls, right?"

"Yeah. Sorry I couldn't make it." Mako said, he later took a photo that was almost 2 years old. It was a photo of Kota and Asami on their wedding night. Kota didn't have the beard yet, "Thanks for the wedding gift, though." Mako said.

"Of course," Kota said, "I gave one to Bolin and Korra as well."

"Have you been keeping up with your bending?" Mako asked.

"Little bit," Kota said, "I've been busy helping Asami with Future Industries, helping out the Air Nation, and also being a dad."

"I can tell," Mako said with a chuckle, "The beard shows it, Tenzin 2.0."

The two laughed as they approached the airbending kids. "Mako!" They all hugged the firebender who hugged them back. "Hey you guys, it's been a while."

Prince Wu was talking to Tenzin, Lin, and President Raiko. "After your coronation the United Forces will escort you back to Ba Sing Se." Tenzin said.

"Right, about that," Prince Wu started, "Are we all POSITIVE enough that the Earth Kingdom is safe enough for me to return? I don't have to remind everyone what happened to my great-aunt 3 years ago." He later reenacted her death from Zaheer and then bowed, "May she rest in peace."

"Prince Wu I assure you, Kuvira has the Earth Kingdom pretty much stabilized at this point." Raiko said.

"Ehh, define pretty much," Wu said in disgust.

"Well the Roving Bandits have mostly been dispersed," Tenzin said.

"Mostly?" Wu asked.

"Don't worry kid," Lin said, "The chances of you being assassinated are almost 0."

"Almost?"

"Sorry, you three may continue to converse, I have to go," Raiko said, leaving.

After Raiko left, Lin brought up the topic from earlier. "Well, if it wasn't for Kota, then your chances would be much higher."

"Oh," Wu said, "About that, how did you two have Kota?"

"Well…" Tenzin rubbed the back of his head, "Lin and I were together at the time and he kind of just came into our lives."

"And we don't regret our decision." Lin said. Lin and Tenzin looked at their son who was with his wife, friend, daughter, and siblings. He really found his purpose and that was to be a family man who protects who he loves. Lin and Tenzin couldn't help but smile, being really proud of their son.

Prince Wu looked over to their direction and sighed, hoping that one day he can reach those goals.

Back at Air Temple Island, Kota and the family were having dinner. Kota who had Pabu on his shoulder was sitting next to Meelo who was at the end of the table. On his other side was Asami who had Harumi on her lap next to Jinora who was feeding her. Kota couldn't help but smile at the scene, thinking how adorable it was.

"When Korra gets here, I bet she's not gonna know who I am." Meelo said.

"Why is that?" Ikki asked.

"Yeah, why?" Kota asked. He was feeding Pabu as he was asking his younger brother the question.

"'Cause Meelo the boy has turned into Meelo the man!" As he said that, Meelo flexed his arms to show how strong he was though I didn't impress his older sister and brother. Tenzin looked confused at this.

"Right, you're completely unrecognizable," Ikki said. She later looked to Kota with a smile, "Though she wouldn't recognize you, Koko."

"How so?" Kota asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" Ikki asked. "You have longer hair, a full beard, and you look old. You are starting to look like Dad."

"Dad help me out here," Kota said, looking at Tenzin. He couldn't but chuckle at how much his eldest son looked like him. "I agree with Ikki." Tenzin said, "Your beard is making you look like me. Just keep growing it a few more months, shave your head, get tattoos and you'll look like me." Ikki, Meelo, and everyone on the table laughed as Kota sighed and dropped his head down in sadness. He later looked to Lin who was sitting between Ikki and Kota, "Mom help me out here."

"I agree with Ikki," Lin said. "You do look like your father."

"Gahh, I'm leaving this table," Kota got up and approached Mako who looked kind of annoyed.

"What's up dude?"

"Prince Wu wants me to accompany him to Ba Sing Se after the coronation."

"What, why?"

"Ask Raiko."

An Air Acolyte later came into the dining hall, "There is a Southern Water Tribe ship coming up to the dock."

"Korra!" Ikki and Meelo yelled together. The two ran out while Asami got up with Harumi in her arms. When everyone got out to the dock, the door was opened and Naga came running out. Kota was with his father waiting for Korra to come out, but instead Tonraq came out.

"Tonraq, it's good to see you. Everyone is excited to see the Avatar again." Tenzin said. Tonraq smiled as he shook hands with Tenzin and Kota.

Tonraq looked confused. "What do you mean? Isn't Korra already here?"

"No we thought she was coming with you," Kota said.

"Korra left the Southern Water Tribe 6 months ago." Tonraq explained, "She's written me letters, saying that she was here in Republic City."

"Korra isn't here, Tonraq." Kota said.

"Then where is she?" Tonraq asked.

Kota looked off to the statue of Aang and narrowed his eyes, "Now that's a good question."

(A/N: Sorry if the chapter was short. This is in Kota's POV and he isn't involved in the season 3 finale since he was severely injured.)
