3 The Smooth Plan

"Sarah…" Noah said while taking a seat.

"That was Sarah? That Sarah?" Violet's eyes widened in surprise. "Damn…God sure plays favourite, she is beautiful."

"Don't get trapped by a pretty face. I guess she used it well…" Noah casually said those words and leaned his body on the sofa before crossing his legs.

Violet frowned at Noah's words. "I don't appreciate that kind of language about women, Noah," she said sternly. "And besides, she was found not guilty of anything."

"I know there is something more to this," Noah replied, his tone unyielding. "It's too much of a coincidence."

Violet sighed. "Fine, but you can't jump to conclusions until you find the truth that well…you can consider as the truth." Violet's words were a bit sarcastic.

Noah grunted in agreement and stood up. "I'm going to head back to my office. Keep me posted on anything you find out."

"Noah…" Violet stopped him from going out. "Is this the reason you are coming back?"

Noah smiled. The smile that could be interpreted in many ways. They were cousins and knowing Noah's personality, she knew Sarah had entered the lion den.

"Don't tell anyone about me…" He said as he closed the door.

"What did he mean by that?" Violet muttered to herself, she shook her head. "I don't need to do anything Noah, your dad will tell the whole country that you are back…" She put on her glasses back and pulled the document she was supposed to check before the interview.

Weyna stood up as soon as she saw Sarah approaching. "How did it go? Did you get it?" she asked eagerly.

"I got the job!" Sarah replied, excitement evident in her voice as she held up the offer letter.

Weyna took the letter and read it. "New City?" she frowned. "I thought you'd be working here."

"No, it's at a new branch there," Sarah explained, still beaming with gratitude for getting the job.

"New branch?" Weyna frowned, "But it's a thirty-minute or even an hour-long drive, depending on traffic," she pointed out, voicing her concern.

"Accompany me to find a new rented house in that city," Sarah said, smiling hopefully at Weyna and linking their arms together to persuade her best friend to agree.

"When is the date you're supposed to report for duty?" Weyna asked, looking back at the paper. "Next week?!" She was surprised. "Then let's try looking up apartments on the internet first."

They continued talking until they reached Sarah's car.

"Wow, it looks like luck is on your side nowadays…" Weyna said, pursing her lips and trying to look moved.

"What? What is it?" Sarah asked, her excitement growing.

Weyna held up her phone and showed Sarah the screen. "Here, an affordable apartment for rent!"

Sarah's eyes were beaming with happiness, it seemed like today was her lucky day, except for the earlier incident. "Should we go right now?" she asked Weyna.

"I really want to, but my mom is asking for help at the restaurant this evening," Weyna replied, biting her lips in guilt. "How about tomorrow?"

"Hmm…," Sarah pondered, looking back at the apartment ad. "Should I call the owner first?"

"I think that would be better," Weyna nodded in agreement as they got into the car.

Dialling the number that was attached in the ad, Sarah waited for the call to be connected. "Oh hello…"

"Hello…" A man answered the call.

"Hi, may I speak with the owner of the apartment for rent…hmm…in Rodding Apartment?" Sarah asked politely, a bit hesitant as the voice of the man didn't sound approachable.

"I'm the owner." The man replied, short.

"I'm calling regarding the apartment that you advertised for rent. Is it still available?" Sarah inquired.

"Yes, it is. If you would like to view it, it would be better to come today as there is another one asking and she asked to view it tomorrow." The owner gave a clear explanation.

"Ahh…really?" Sarah looked at Weyna who was waiting. "Then how about…3 PM today?" She suggested while glancing at her watch on her wrist.

"Great, then I will see you today. Bye!" The owner hung up the phone.

"Did you get an appointment?" Weyna asked curiously.

"Yes…," Sarah replied, her brows furrowed, "but I scheduled it for today as he said someone asking for the house too…"

"Really? Can you drive alone?" Weyna worries, it's been a while since Sarah drives to the other city alone.

"Yes!" Sarah replied, smiling. However, deep down, she was feeling nervous.

"Okay, but whatever happened, call me right away." Weyna reminded her like she reminds her daughter.

After dropping Weyna off at her family's restaurant, Sarah headed straight to New City. The road was clear, and her drive was going smoothly without any problems.

Sarah stepped out of her car and took a deep breath before looking up at the towering structure before her. She couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the grandeur of the building. However, her sense of awe was quickly replaced by uneasiness as she recalled the low rent advertised for the apartment.

"I hope this isn't a scam," Sarah muttered to herself as she stepped into the building's elevator and pressed the button for the designated floor. As the elevator ascended, Sarah's heart pounded with excitement and fear.

Upon reaching the designated floor, Sarah stepped out of the elevator and made her way towards the apartment mentioned in the advertisement. However, as she approached the door, she noticed a man leaning against the wall, waiting outside the apartment. Her heart skipped a beat, and she hesitated for a moment, wondering if she had come to the right place.

"Ms. Sarah?" the man asked.

Sarah nodded, her eyes fixed on the man. She blinked hard to make sure she wasn't seeing things. "Yes, I'm Sarah. And you?" She wanted to offer a handshake, but hesitated. "Are you the owner of the house?"

"Yes, I am," he said, extending his hand. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Sarah. I'm Noah."
