History, Questions, And Ruins

Since the beginning of time, or history, if you would like to call it. There laid several structures separated all over the world.

These are called Ruins. Nobody knows where it came from nor knew why they existed, but one thing that everyone know is that, these places were dangerous.

The Ruins all throughout Aerionis were full of powerful and monstrous beasts that are capable of wiping out all the races on the continent. Whether it be a the smallest town to the largest kingdom.

Nobody know's why the beast's of the ruins lusted for destruction. And why their number's doesn't seem to end.

Are the ruin's capable of creating these beast's? Or is there some other reason?

Whichever and whatever it was, The Ruin's must be destroyed.

Five hundred years ago, an age of war. There was a person who managed to reach the peak of magic. With a wave of his hand he was capable of destroying mountains, tame dragons and even splitting the sea in half.

Yet, even with his power, he was still incapable of destroying the ruins. Whenever the ruins were damaged, it would revert to it's previous state after some time.

But...that wasn't the only thing that made the Magician gave up. Apparently, the ruin's seems to know when it was damaged, and it always retaliated with a catastrophe.

Waves of magical monstrous beasts came rushing to the surface, killing every single person they could find.

These event was thus named as the 'First Disaster'.

Then a few hundred years passed, came the 'Second Disaster'. Although no one has even planned to destroy the ruins, apparently, after quite some time, magical beasts surged in waves once again to the surface of the earth.

The races were instantly on the brink of annihilation, but there stood 8 people on the front lines. With their mastery on each weapon and magic, they managed to repel the incoming disaster with their very hands.

Thus the First King and his Seven Grace came to existence.

This was the start of the creation of Adventurers and Explorers.

If the ruins cannot be destroyed, there was only one way to avert disaster, and that is to stop a disaster before it happens.

The Adventurers have two jobs; To kill the remaining magical beasts all over the world, and to prevent the disaster by venturing towards inside the ruins.

Whilst Explorers on the other hand have only one specific reason why they were created. To Investigate the ruins and how it came to existence.

As time passes, these two jobs completely overlapped together, and their meaning for existence became stagnant, due to one reason.

The depth and deepest part of the Ruin was something that no one has been able to reach.

Till, this day, the races have lived in fear from the ruins, and only those brave enough managed to enter it's presence.

But, even though the ruin's were a catastrophic existence, it's help towards society were slowly brought to light. Weapons, armors and even material for building houses came from many things inside the Ruins.

The pelt, claws, tails and teeth of magical beast's were turned to weapons and armors by the blacksmiths while many gems and ore's were made into necklaces, earring's and rings.

The Ruin's were without a doubt a dangerous place, but it is also were wealth can be found.

Yet, we still ask. Will the day come when the races will finally be free from the ruin's disaster?

Only time will tell.

I closed the book and thought long and hard.

"So....magical beasts do exist. Wonder what they look like?"

The book I read wasn't like I was thinking off, I thought it would take longer than I thought, but it shows more pictures and less letters, it's more similar to a biography if you think about it.

"hmmm....maybe I'll be able to see one when I grow up, I wonder where the ruin's are?"

From what I remember there's a guild in this town, so does that mean a ruin is near this place?

As I became curious to the sudden thought, I also felt the goosebumps arousing from my entire body as I imagine 'The First Disaster' happening inside my head.

I trembled a little bit as I rubbed my arms.

"I hope something like that doesn't happen..."

I would've been excited if I knew how to defend myself, but.....since I was a person born without magic, that scenario was something I wouldn't be able to survive.

"I'm probably the weakest person in the world right now....hmmmm....maybe I should learn how to defend myself, I should ask Jack when I get home....better to start early than don't start at all."

I glanced on the side and saw other people coming in. The library was slowly crowding, and by the time I stood up and grabbed a handful of snacks at the counter, almost every single table was already being used.

With a quick return, while Vrasir was introducing his library again, I took another book from the bookcase and began to let my mind wander once again.

Time passed by in a blurish way.

Tick Tock....

As soon as I glanced at the open window, the streets were already basking with an deep orange color, signifying it was noon.

"Look's like it's time to go home..."

Returning the books on it's specific position, I cleaned the table I used with a broom from the side and made my way towards the exit.

"Ohh? Leaving so early? And here I thought you were a bookworm through and through, I must've been wrong." Vrasir exclaimed, stopping me before I could leave.

"Well, I promised Ev-, I mean, my parent's that I'll be home early." I replied while scratching my head.

"Ohh, what a bummer, well not that I don't understand, family are the more important than books after all." He fixed his monocle once again.

"I better get going. Thank you for letting me read here." I replied and opened the door.

"Hmmm....as long as you pay for it, I'm more than happy to oblige. See you next time, dear customer."

As I waved goodbye, I ran quickly and returned to my home.

"I hope Eve doesn't get mad." I muttered as I imagine Eve's raging expression.

***

"Honey, I'm home!" A women in her Mid-Twenties called as she entered the entrance of the library. She held a basket full of fruits, she wore a knee-length dress on top of her thin coat. Her violet hair dropped down as she removed her pony tail.

Behind her stood a boy who was tall enough to reach the down part of her chest.

"I'm here too!!" The boy said, though he was tall, his voice was still developing. He wore a normal brown shirt and pants, dirtied, and a wooden sword in his hands full of calluses. His arms were full of scratches, showing that he was previously somewhere, training.

"Ohh! Welcome home, my dear. And you too Arnold. So...how was your day." Vrasir replied with a dignified tone.

"We..."

"You won't believe it, Father." The boy replied, interrupting his mother. "There's this kid in the training hall who beat me. He was almost as tall as me and much older but he STILL beat me!"

Though be brought dreadful news, he was smiling the entire time.

"OHH!!! So there was someone like that in this town? Then it was right to move here." Vrasir replied with a smile.

"I still can't believe it! But I'll train more and hopefully beat him!" The boy said while posing a block with his wooden sword.

"Good for you, my boy. Why don't you go wash up first, then we'll eat."

"Okay!" The boy immediately ran to the stairs and was out of sight after a couple of seconds.

"...."

"Hmmm?"

"What?" Vrasir asked as he caught his wife glancing to his direction with an eyebrow raised.

"Nothing? You seem to be on a good mood, considering how you just went nuts because of a book being burned yesterday."

"Well, someone just happens to catch my eye, Lana."

"Here? Really? Someone came to this library who caught your eye? Vrasir the bookworm or Vrasir the Craftsman?"

Vrasir hums happily and replied. "Both."

Lana's eyes widened. "Then....are you going to make him your disciple?"

"Well..." Vrasir took a seat on the front desk, and Lana slowly followed.

"He...is capable. He has the basic aspects for it. But the best thing was his concentration. I've been watching him earlier, can you believe he finish five books in a matter of hours? Not only that, he must be the same as our Arnold, yet he can already read that fast?"

"Five!? Are you sure? Aren't you just imagining it?"

"I'm not joking. I've been keeping my eyes on him all the time, yet he never stopped whenever he started, I thought most kids these days doesn't read books before they reach an appropriate age to enter an academy, but it seems there are still a few."

Lana placed the basket of fruits on the front desk. "Well, are you going to train him?"

"Well, he do have the necessities to become a craftsman, maybe too much at that...but..."

"There's something wrong with him, am I right?"

Vrasir nodded. "He can't use magic."

Lana's eyes once again widened. "It''s that child?"

"Yes. Bane Pyrrus. The Manaless."

"He's not cursed or anything, is he?"

"No....I've already checked him earlier when our hands touched. He's just not born with mana." Vrasir pinched his nose bridge. "If only he could have just a little bit of mana.....but how can someone have none? Does something like that exist? It's as if he didn't existed to begin with..."

Vrasir's expression suddenly became grim.

Lana, who realized this, gave him a hug.

"Don't worry, honey. I'm sure you'll find someone soon. We just have to keep looking."

"No....I'll teach that child. He has the capabilities for it. It's a bummer he won't be able to make magical artifacts but atleast I could teach him the basics were magic isn't needed....yes.....that's it!" Vrasir's grim expression suddenly disappeared and what was left was a madman's ecstatic grin.

Exhilarated by his own thoughts. He stood with his hands shaking. "...I'll make it so that he can make artifacts and weapons that can rival even magical ones! Yes! Maybe....just maybe.....he can do it!"

"Are you thinking straight? An ordinary weapon isn't capable of beating something with magical properties...you know that." Lana replied with a smirk.

"Do you doubt me?"

"We-well...."

"No, forget about it. Just wait and see....I'll turn him into someone soon....but for now..." Vrasir pulled his vest down, fix his hair and his monocle. "I'll just watch him for now. After all, I'll have to make sure."

With a grin on his face, Vrasir returned to the extravagant man he normally was.

I apologize if some parts are hard to read. English isn't my main language, and I'm still having a little bit of problem fixing my grammar.

Still, you reached this chapter?

Thank you very much.
